Student Art Show, Community Center, Saturday Evening

A meeting room at the community center had been nicely appointed for an evening show of students' work, with pieces hung on the walls and a small stage set aside for monologues and musical performances. The food wasn'tquite as abundant as it had been the day before, but there was still plenty of cheese, crackers, crudités and non-alcoholic beverages to go around -- plus some wine for anyone who was or could pass for 21.

And, of course, there was glitter on every horizontal surface. Some traditions were important.

Gwen forgot about this! And she'd been planning on just doing something since she was on StuCo, so yesterday she'd had to ditch class and run to the art store.

On display now was a piece of black cloth stapled over a canvas. There were bits of glitter on it that had gotten there just by nature of being in Fandom.

It said something! Like "I forgot about this and maybe it looks deep."

Nate tilted his head. "Is it . . . space?"

Was the glitter stars, perhaps?

Gwen tilted her head at it.

"Sure. I guess. Whatever works for you, buddy."

"Ah. The artist, I take it?"
stacyexperiment: (saying words)

"Sure," Gwen said again, because she'd stapled fabric together so 'artist' might be pushing it. "It's uh, a representation of whatever you want to read into it."

She had no idea.

"Ah, I see, I see." Nate was literally a professional bullshitter, Gwen, albeit a retired one. He leaned in just a little. "And just how soon before this opened did you remember you had to put something together?"
stacyexperiment: (if you say so)

"Excuse you, I labored over this thing. Toiled, even," Gwen said. "...And like a day."

"That took you a whole day?"

Be nice, Nate.

Gwen stuck her hands on her hips. "Do you know how long it takes to recreate space? That son of a bitch is infinite."

"Oh, so it is space, now. Not just 'whatever you want it to be'."
stacyexperiment: (let me get this straight)

"You interpreted as space, so it's space," she shrugged. "This high schooler's art project that you're ragging on is surprisingly deep, huh?"

"Nice try. And a cute line. Bet it goes over great with art teachers."

May looked at the cloth as if it looked deep.

She faked it well.
