Student Art Show, Community Center, Saturday Evening

A meeting room at the community center had been nicely appointed for an evening show of students' work, with pieces hung on the walls and a small stage set aside for monologues and musical performances. The food wasn'tquite as abundant as it had been the day before, but there was still plenty of cheese, crackers, crudités and non-alcoholic beverages to go around -- plus some wine for anyone who was or could pass for 21.

And, of course, there was glitter on every horizontal surface. Some traditions were important.

"Heaven only knows. This being Parker, it could be, oh. Escapes. Just actual free jumping. Something more obscure." She cocked her head. "I've seen Eliot with enough children and teenagers to know how he approaches them. And Hardison really isn't that much older than most of them, in spirit, if nothing else."

"Why wouldn't we be?" Sophie asked gently. "They're still continuing their work with Leverage. It's not like they've, oh, quit entirely."

Lord knew he did. Not that he'd admit it to himself.

"On occasion," Sophie said, giving her typical evasive answer. Not as fiercely as she did at one point; the directing and teaching filled up some space she'd wanted, that was probably what it had been like for Nate to run a crew. "...I was thinking we needed to do something for Sterling's birthday. For instance."

"I suppose we ought to," Nate agreed. "Especially after what Eliot pulled last spring."

They never had gotten a satisfactory explanation for Eliot putting the man into the hospital.

"Well. For your birthday, we can do something for him that you'll enjoy. Almost as much as Eliot enjoyed that beating." Sophie paused, a light coming into her eyes. "Was that what the surprise part of this trip was about?"
