Student Art Show, Community Center, Saturday Evening

A meeting room at the community center had been nicely appointed for an evening show of students' work, with pieces hung on the walls and a small stage set aside for monologues and musical performances. The food wasn'tquite as abundant as it had been the day before, but there was still plenty of cheese, crackers, crudités and non-alcoholic beverages to go around -- plus some wine for anyone who was or could pass for 21.

And, of course, there was glitter on every horizontal surface. Some traditions were important.

Nate shrugged. "I've seen worse."

Mr. Li didn't seem to be using Kathy directly in an illegal ponzi scheme, for instance.

"Still..." she mumbled, bright red. "Do, uhh, you know Eliot, Parker, and Mr. Hardison then?" she asked, totally not changing the subject at all or anything.

"Mr. Hardison," Nate repeated, looking faintly delighted. "Yes, I've known them for years. Used to chase them, actually, before we became a team."

"I don't know him as well as I know Parker and Eliot," Kathy explained.

Go figure.

"So it still feels weird to just call him Hardison." Which probably didn't stop Nate from being so amused. "But--oh! You must be their old mastermind! Before Parker!"

"I was the man with the plan," Nate confirmed. "Until I retired. So they've mentioned me, have they?"

"A little bit, here and there," Kathy said. "Sometimes they talk about some of what they did before coming to the island. And I puppy-sit Val when their current, uhh, business requires them to go off-island."

"Eliot hasn't finished training Val well enough yet," Kathy said with the staunch conviction that he both would and could train the puppy to be an asset on heists. "Until she is, I keep an eye on her."
