Groovy Tunes, Saturday
Since Jono wasn't actually teaching this semester, he only felt a little bad about opting to open the music shop today rather than head off to the picnic to scope out the fresh meat. After all, odds were good he'd be at the front of a classroom on the island again come summertime, once he'd rested up some from putting in a semester pulling double teaching duty between the island and the Jean Grey School, for Logan. Still, he figured Hannibal would fill him in if there were any students that he should really know about, figuring that he would at least recognize any of his own students from Westchester. That would have to do, for now.
Anyway, this morning had seen somebody come in and pawn off a big cardboard box of old vinyl, and it was easy enough to get his mind off of possible welcome picnic shenanigans by sorting through the selection and checking the records over for scratches and other damage before pricing them and putting them out for sale.
... After picking through the selection to snatch up what he wanted for his own personal collection first, of course.

"Hello," he said, greeting Jono with a hand on the shoulder before he began stripping off his outer layer. "How has your day been?"

Sure, Jonothon. Super surprising.
//And yours? You came from the picnic, didn't you?//

Yes, he was well aware that 'Jono brings home a Led Zep album' was a scenario that hadn't turned out well the last time it had happened. But dammit, he hadn't sold his soul while buying this one, okay?

"This is the one you were telling me about?" Hannibal asked, fishing a moment for the name. "Jimmy Page?"

It lacked excitement, generally, but Jono was never quite bored. That had to count for something or other.

Yes, Jono. Yes you had.

"Would you like to hear about the new people?" he asked.

He walked through the wall into the music store. "A new book, you said?"

//A new book, I said,// Jono agreed. //I've even got it here with me today. Though I might be too boring to do much reading, this afternoon.//
He hadn't let go of that 'boring' comment yet, no.
no subject
Bob rolled his eyes. "You'd be less boring if you'd read."

//Do you often get told that you're an utter tit, Bob?//

These days he mostly got called an ass.

... It was a habit he'd gotten into while reading for the kids at the library, and for Artie and Leech well before them. Sometimes he forgot that not all audiences weren't five.
But hey, maybe Bob wanted to hear the lead busty girl talk dirty in a woman's voice. It wasn't like that was difficult for Jono to manage.

You were getting voices, Bob. This was a thing that was happening, now.
//Prologue. Autumn 1817. Verity huddled into the murk by the chimney stack, watching through the shifting veil of rain as the two men, little more than dense shadows in the pouring blackness, carried their grisly burden from the cottage to the cart. The horse between the shafts tucked his tail in and stamped restlessly, snorting as the stench of death reached him. The boy at his head murmured in shaking tones and held his lantern higher...//
Yep. For Bob, he'd gotten a Harlequin romance novel.
