Caritas- Tuesday

Once again Kitty was at work doing work for her other job. She had her laptop on the bar and was doing some research on the stuff her students had brought up yesterday, which was a lot of fun for a nerd who liked to learn.

Plus she got to have s drink while she did it, so really she was living her best life.

[Open, no OCD cuz my next hour is nuts. Then normal.]

"Drinking on the job, 's that it now?" teased Éponine as she clambered up onto a stool and then sort of half-sprawled gracelessly across the bar. "'course, look at where you work! You've got to know what you're serving, after all."

She paused, scratched at the side of her nose.

"'s a good sign for the rest of us, anyhow. If you didn't sample your own wares, well! That'd be bad."

"Exactly. Besides, there's barely any actual alcohol in it," Kitty admitted. "You should see when Tino and I get bored and start mixing things together to see what sticks."

"And how often's that work out, I wonder?" Éponine sat up enough to brace her hands on the bar and swivel her stool back and forth a few inches. "It sounds like it isn't likely to end well most of the time."

Well, it would if she tried.

"Mine usually aren't bad. Tino's usually are, and he has to try them first," Kitty said. "There's a system."

"One that wastes as little booze as possible, I see," Éponine said, and nodded as if her approval was important. "All these fancy mixed drinks! I don't know who thought of it first. It seems like so much work, when just a few swigs of gin will do the trick as well, but . . ."

She laughed. "They are pretty, and go down easier. And I don't think I'd mind one of those, something slushy with ice, and pretty colors, and pineapple?"

"Ooh, I can do that," Kitty said, already reaching for a glass. "Maybe I should have a mixology night or something. People give ideas for drinks or whatever."

"You've a name for it, and everything!" exclaimed Éponine, laughing. "I guess I'm not surprised. We might learn a bit, too . . . though how much we'd remember afterward, there's the real question."

"I could write things down," Kitty suggested. "Or frankly stay sober enough to remember since I'd probably be doing the mixing."

"Bit of a shame, that is," Éponine said offhandedly, "but we can't very well leave all that to Tino."

[throughaphase]

"Maybe we candy a taste test kind of thing. People submit a recipe, we whip it up and serve it in shot glasses or whatever for everyone to try, and then people can vote on the best one. Maybe name the drink after the winner or something."

Éponine nodded, a slow grin spreading across her face. "And whoever wins gets their own drink for free?"

Éponine, no.

"Once a month or so."

Yes, that's better, thanks.

[throughaphase]

"I could be open to that. Probably a good way to bring in business, right?" Hopefully. She was bored a lot.

"I don't see how it could hurt." Not that Éponine had inherited a keen sense of business or anything like that from her father, but she was fairly sure that this was a better idea than many he'd had. So.

"Wouldn't it be funny, too, to see if people's drinks end up being not at all like them? If I came up with something fancy and delicate and all, or yours turned out absolutely boring."

[throughaphase]

"Awww, you think I'm not boring," Kitty smiled. "But seriously mine would probably be neon with four umbrellas. ...I'm sure there's a way to do neon."

[filleauloup]

"Life like yours, from what you've told me? Of course you're not boring. Now, neon, let's see . . ." She tapped a finger against her lips and hummed softly to herself. "It's Fandom, there's got to be someone's world where there's magical booze that glows, hasn't there? Or someone who can make it, at least."

"I can maybe make some calls. Or, you know, Google it," Kitty said.

[filleauloup]

"And I might be able to ask around," Éponine added; she was getting into this idea.

". . . and make sure there aren't any regulations about shipping that sort of thing here, now I think about it."

[throughaphase]

"Eh, some of the stuff we get in can be from other galaxies or worlds," Kitty shrugged. "Unless it's radioactive, it should be fine."

"Oh, I know, it's only that the postal service has some funny rules about some things, so long's you don't go through them it should be all right."
