Didi wasn't sure why the zombies were doing a Beatles medley today, but they were and she was at work and so she was stuck listening to it.

It turned out "Hey Jude" held up even if all the lyrics were replaced with the word brains.

"If I shoot them, is it considered a crime?" Deadpool asked without facing the bartender. "Not because I like the Beatles, but because it's on my bucket list below 'Punch JJ Abrams in the kidney'."

"You can't shoot them in here," Didi pointed out, after giving the matter just a little more thought than she should have. (The zombiefied version of "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" was a little hard to take, especially when the drummer pulled his own hand off midway.) "You'd get bounced into the duck pond as soon as you pulled out your gun, right?"

"...yeeeeeah?" Oh god, you gave him ideas, Didi.

"Yeah, what?" Didi asked, suspicious. "I'm missing something, here."

"Just struggling with impulse control," he replied cheerfully. "Hello, I don't think we've met this time around. Blame Fox for restrictions on my origin story there."

"Stupid Fox," Didi said, completely going with it. (It had been a few years, but she remembered Deadpool.) "Hey, Wade. Did you ever date a different version of me? Because the last version of you did."

"I did not, but if I weren't a taken man I'd date you in a heartbeat." There was a pause. "I'm batting my eyes at you. The CGI budget is nonexistent in RP."

Didi nodded as though she understood that -- which it was possible she did. "I'm flattered," she said. "Who's the lucky person? And can I get you anything?"

"Vanessa," he replied, whipping out the only good picture of them together. "And I would like a blowjob."

Sweet mixed drinks were for work days.

"You're going to have to talk me through making that one," Didi warned as she went for a shotglass. (She would never admit that it had taken her a moment to realize he meant the drink.) "It's not exactly a hot seller here. Guess kids don't like blowjobs anymore."

It was only then that she leaned over the counter to see the photo. "She's pretty," she commented. "I think I've seen her around. She teaches, right?"

"Yeah, sex ed right now." He sounded way too fond of her. But she was his other crazy half. And there weren't any time travelling assholes around.

"Baileys, Kaluha, and Amaretto, topped with whipped cream. And kids these days. No appreciation of the classics."

"I did a class on that last term," Didi noted as she assembled the liquors. (She also found a second shot glass for herself along the way, because why not.) "I think some of the kids knew more than we did."

"Or they think they do and will look back on those years and wonder what the fuck were they thinking," he suggested. "They don't know how easy they have it. It took work to look at boobs when we were kids. You had to work for it. Now it's just all over the internet."

"Not so much a problem for girls," Didi observed dryly as she squirted whipped cream on top of both shot glasses. "Since we get our own set and everything. But I get what you're saying. Nobody ever appreciates what they have."

She slid the creamier shot across the bar to Deadpool. "Cheers."

"To your health," he said, lifting the shot glass in a salute. Then pulled up the mask enough to down the cloyingly sweet shot. "Oh, that's some diabetes there."

Didi, meanwhile, was coughing through hers. "I know," she said. "Every so often I feel like I should drink more. I think this is why I don't."

"But you work at a bar." He'd be hammered 24/7 if he worked at a bar. And if alcohol actually worked on him anymore. And if Weaz would hired him, that little sack of shit.

Didi shrugged one shoulder. "I like talking to people."

"And listening to poorly wailed attempts at classic rock," he supplied. Then shouted over at the band, "Maybe some Björk?"

"Bjork?" Didi repeated. "Huh. I wouldn't have taken you for the Icelandic pixie type. You look like a Neil Sedaka guy."


The zombie leader nodded, and the band lurched into something that might have been an attempt at "Human Behavior," or might have been a joint seizure.

"Awww, I'm gonna hate those guys," he said with a fond sigh.

It would turn into a thing. It really would.

"Personally I'm more of a Wham with an exclamation point kinda guy." Didn't he look it? "Nothing better than some music that wouldn't be out of place in the love scene of an 80's movie."

"Wham with an exclamation point," Didi repeated. "I can see that. And the '80s were an awesome decade."

It might even be said her fashion sense had never left it. Luckily, the Goth look was timeless.

"How do you feel about The Smiths?"

It'd be the newest thing for the fall, let's be real. Fuck you, cyclical nature of fashion!

"Does a fat kid love cake?" That was a yes? "Yeah, that's a yes. Do you think we can make the zombies groan 'How Soon Is Now?' because I would pay a bare minimum for that. I've saving up. Can't be spending willy-nilly here."

"I don't know, but you're welcome to try," Didi said, with an apprehensive look to the zombies. She wasn't sure how they would say no. "They seem cheerful tonight, right? Weird as heck, but cheerful?"

"Maybe it's because they know we can't kill them here." It was a reasonable idea, really.

"Maybe," Didi agreed. "Maybe they just love music that much."
