Most of the information they had found was circumstantial, at best: rumors about what might have happened, strange reports that could mean anything about what caused this. But from it had arisen one potential path, the destruction of whatever anchored this place here - though whether it was an anchor that held their island tied to this, or an anchor that held this island tied to its doom, Obi-Wan couldn't say.

Regardless, it was time. He made his way to town square after spending some time urging people to come there. Just to make sure, he raised his voice. "May I have your attention?" he called.

And waited. A bit.

"I'm sorry if I am being presumptuous. My name is Obi-Wan Kenobi. I am... newly here. I, and several of our people, have spent some time researching the current state of the island." Yes. That. "We have identified two creatures that may be involved in powering our current circumstances. Therefore, we find it credible that removing these creatures may at the very least improve our circumstances some."

He couldn't make any promises, here.

"If you are willing to volunteer to take on a flying man vulnerable to electricity, and an easily-distractable... thing... out in town, please do report to me." Beat. "And Principal Zoe? I would like to speak with you as well."

He stepped away from the rock he'd stood on, straightened his robe, and waited.

"You have a gift for understatement, Master," Kanan replied, allowing himself a moment to indulge in a wry smile. "We seem to be holding up, at least. A shame we can't say the same for many of our counterparts."

La la la not thinking about the big thing on the MCA roof, la la la.

"Yes," Obi-Wan said quietly. "We've seen some medical reports about the people here, when this event was in its beginning stages, but... nothing close to a cure appears to have been found."

"And we still don't know what caused all of this?"

Kanan didn't figure they did. If there was a source they could dig at, they'd probably already be on their way.

"There are some scattered reports about an illness that swept across the world, taking memories," Obi-Wan said, "And a sickness living underneath the island."

He shook his head. "It may perhaps have something to do with the island's history, but... that is all conjecture at this point, and the library is not what it once was."

"And if memories are gone, there's not much hope of dredging up that history," Kanan surmised. "The people who were here don't know what happened, and we've only got what we can find to work with."

Well. That was unhelpful. He sighed, shaking his head.

"Great. So we're flying mostly blind, then."

Phrasing, Kanan.

"Unfortunately, yes," Obi-Wan said. He gestured towards the strike teams. "This is the most concrete idea we have had, and we are simply trying to see if it does... anything at all."

Force, he hoped so.

"I suppose if nothing else, it puts a few more of those... things... out of their misery."

And also got them to stop terrorizing the survivors. Also that. Kanan was a little distracted today.

"If we are lucky, the 'anchoring' is what has inflicted this trouble on these people, and putting an end to these creatures will return everything to normal," Obi-Wan said slowly. "If we are... less lucky, it may simply be what's anchoring us here, and we will get home. Or it may mean nothing, and-- yes. As you said."

"If all that it does is take us home," Kanan said slowly, after a few seconds of silence, "that means we'll just be leaving these people to continue struggling on their own."

He didn't like the idea of that. And he didn't like that he cared so much about it, either. He'd spent a lot of time working on not caring. And now here he was.

"Down some of those monsters, sure, but... all we'll have fixed are our own problems."

That was the Caleb in him, screaming and clawing and rallying up against his common sense to protest the idea of running away. The Kanan in him was usually much better at ignoring it. After all, running away had been the basis on which he'd re-created himself.

"I am not fond of the idea myself," Obi-Wan said quietly. "But the fact of the matter is that we are, as you say, flying blind."

He looked back towards the town.

"We do not even know where this island stands with rights to our own," he said. "The books we have found detail several crises on the island that I remember, and some beyond that that I do not recognize."

"So..." Kanan pulled in a slow breath, looking out over the collection of hovels and sputtering campfires that the survivors had put together for themselves. "... So we're either in a different time, or on a version of the island that just went a completely different direction than ours did, at some point. Either way, the Fandom we woke up in has seen things we don't completely comprehend, beyond just whatever we're looking at here."

That was less than reassuring all on its own.

"Great."

"The likelihood of us finding a solution the locals have not is rather small, for now," Obi-Wan said. He lifted his head and turned back towards Kanan. "This is merely a first attempt, based on their records. If that does not work... we will be here for a long haul indeed."

"Well," Kanan made a small huffing noise, something tired, something morbidly amused. "I wasn't getting back home any time soon anyway."

Plus side, Vader would never find them here, right?

... That was a pretty weak plus side, all things considered.
