A busty little bird had mentioned to Summer that this Carta place didn't card, so, even though she didn't really want a drink, she thought she'd check it out after work.

So there was Summer at the bar, not even sitting yet because she half expected them to kick her out for asking. "Hey, can I, uh, get a beer?"

"Sure. Any preference on what kind?"

Kitty bet it would not be one of the good beers.

"Uhhhhh." Summer tried to think quick if something that sounded cool.

"Surprise me?"

Summer failed.

She was getting a Bud Lite. It wasn't great, but clearly she wouldn't know what a good beer was yet so might as well start easy.

"Are you new?" Kitty asked, getting the glass together.

Hey, it was cheap and familiar, and she just wanted to see if she could get it. Summer wasn't going to complain. She did worry for a hot seconditions about her newness being obvious, but it was a small island with bored spy squirrels that reported on what people did all day. Of course newbies would be super obvious.

"Yup," she said. "Summer Smith, in for the summer. From Earth, but not this one. Some lame galactic bug government took over my earth, and they sent me here. I don't really want to be here, but, whatever, I'll deal with it."

Pause. "Did I forget anything? That's how the standard introduction convos have been going so far, so I thought Id, you know, condense."

"You did pretty good, but that's more than I usually get," Kitty said, sliding over her drink. "Though my meetings usually also include 'hey, I recognize you from my world, what timeline are you from' so it might be a tradeoff."

"Thanks," said Summer, bobbing her head in general understandung as she picked up the beer and took a tentative first sip. A then a much bigger gulp. "So you get it. Only that sounds way more confusing. You really get it a lot?"

She thought of what Morty said about being from a different world and that time her Grampa made that VR thing that showed them different futures, and wondered if it would be super weiRd to see anyone she knew here, and she decided that, yes, it would. But maybe cool, depending on who...

"I'm apparently from a popular universe. My husband's actually from a different version of that universe where I may or may not exist," Kitty explained. "So... it comes up."

Summer took a moment to trace that through in her head. "Oof. And I thought I had it bad with my real brother being dead and replaced by my brother from a different world. But how awesome is it that you found each other in this world! That's so romantic!"

Excuse the small squealing, but Summer was a sucker for a good interfimensional, multi-timeliness love story. Unless she ended up just marrying him to kill and capture all his criminal friends.

God, Tammy, you were so cool, what the fuck.

"Thanks." Was that the right response? Eh, she'd go with it. "By the sounds of it, this place shouldn't do much to shock you, either."

"And thank you for that. Every one keeps,saying, 'Just you wait, Summer. Thus island can get really,really weird,' but, I'm all, hello, my life is already pretty weird, I think you're reaaaaaaally underestimating how weird."

Kitty considered this. "I come from a pretty weird place myself- obviously- but there are times this place can still find ways to mess with you. Mostly, though, it's just rolling with it."

"Which is kind of how it is back home," Summer said. "You kind of get used to it when you've got a mad scientist grandpa."

"...Your first name is Summer, right? Not last?"

Just checking!

"...yeah, first name Summer. Last name Smith, but Grampa's a Sanchez. Why?Do you have a mad scientist Summer in your world?"

No, Summer, you were not allowed to think Mad Scientist Summer sounded cool.

"No, just a lot of Summerses with time traveling family drama. You gotta check these things," Kitty explained.

"I...think you're good there?" Summer guessed. "For all the world and dimension hopping we've done, I don't think there been, like, any time travel. Unless you count stopping time for a while?"

"Lucky. Time travel messes everything up."

But... truth, though.

"If different dimensions messing things up as badly as it does," she said, "then, yeah, I'd rather not have to wrap my head around time travel too."

Anne was still getting a feel for town, and she figured it was past time she acquainted herself with the bars in the area. She wasn't a big drinker or anything, but she liked a relaxing night out as much as the next person.

She paused in the doorway, looking around thoughtfully (and with some trepidation). It wasn't really like the bars she was used to back home. Well, there was a bar, and it looked like alcohol, but there were some details that were definitely off.

"Feel like coming in, or are you just browsing?" Kitty greeted her.

That pushed Anne forward, and she stepped into the bar proper with a shrug and a grin. "Why not?" she asked. "I mean, I was planning to come in, just found myself a little surprised."

"Not quite what I'd expected." Though, given Fandom, she probably should have expected that.

"Is it the zombies?" she checked.

"Is that what they are?" Anne asked, looking over at them again. "I will admit that they caught my attention."

Kinda hard to miss, really.

"Yep. Totally not dangerous, they're Febrezed, and I'm sure they'd like me to tell you about their discography, all available for sale," Kitty grinned.

Anne continued to eye them curiously. "Are they paid, then? What do they need money for?"

"Studio time and packaging costs, apparently," Kitty said with a sigh. "Can I get you something?"

Another shrug as Anne turned back to Kitty. "Sure." She pursed her lips. "Got a specialty that'll impress me?" she asked with a grin.

"Would you like something set on fire? Those are fun," Kitty admitted.

"You know, I don't think I've had a drink that someone set on fire in, well," she snorted, "a while." No need to admit how long of a while.

"Flaming drink it is," she said, starting to work on it. "I'm Kitty, by the way."

"Anne." She leaned against the bar, resting her weight on her elbows. "Mayers."

She grinned. "New in town, in case that wasn't obvious."

"Well, Yeah, but mostly because it's a small town and you recognize all the new faces after a while," Kitty said. "Teacher?"

"Well, trying to be."

"It's not something I've got any experience with."

"Ms. Mayer??"

Oh, man. It was weird seeing a teacher in a bar! Was she going to get in trouble?

"Uhhh, hi?"

"Summer." Anne offered the girl a smile, not seeming concerned to see a student of hers in a place like this.

"Are you looking forward to class tomorrow?" She wouldn't really be upset if Summer said no.

Weird. So weird.

"Uh, sure," she said " What are we going to be talong about? I gotta admit, the last one surprise me a little."

She honestly wasn't a violent person! Well, she tried not to be.

Anne grinned slightly. "Looking to get ahead of the game?"

Summer blushed a little, shrugging her shoulders. "Never hurts to be prepared, right?"

"That's very true."

Anne considered for a moment. "How about a hint, then. I'll tell you that we'll be talking about family."

And Summer's face may have dropped a bit.

"Oh, noooo...."

She might be needing another beer.

Now that was an interesting reaction. Anne raised an eyebrow. "Touchy subject?"

"Not touchy," Summer said, although she sounded uncertain. "Just...weird. Dysfunctional doesn't even begin to cover it..."

"It's been my experience that everyone's family is weird in its own way."

"I'm not trying to dismiss your own family situation, and everyone's got their own thing going on, but I think families are breeding grounds for stressful situations."

Her own had been.

"Mmhm," Summer sounded just a wee bit skeptical there. "We'll just have to see if you're singing thr same tine tomorrow, Ms. Mayer."

"I guess we will."

"I'm looking forward to hearing what you think once we get into the discussion tomorrow."
