Covent Garden Flowers, Tuesday

Come in to work, check around for damage, pull the boards down from the windows, and then get to work watering the plants and feeding the fish.

Nathan would say he was disappointed that his shift today was so straightforward, but really, he'd be lying. There were a few arrangements that hadn't fared well when the power went out and took the refrigeration units with it, but besides a couple of armloads of wilted flowers, the place seemed to be doing alright.

... Maybe he could dry those or something. There were worse things to use dead flowers for than potpourri.

Peter came in and looked around. "It doesn't look like we fared too badly. We still have all the walls and the ceiling."

"So far as walls and ceilings go, these ones seem to be surviving," Nathan agreed, looking up from the small heap of roses that he'd deemed impossible to sell in their current state. "The stock took a bit of a hit, but if that's the worst of it, I'd say we did pretty well, comparatively."

It was hard not to notice the destruction on the way in.

"Yeah," Peter agreed. "And unless there's a bouquet for 'sorry your house got totalled', I don't think the stock'll be missed for a while. How did your place make out?"

"We fared astonishingly well, considering we overlook the water," Nathan said. He sounded faintly bemused about that. "Though I suppose Magnus was out picking fights with the sharks, at some point. They probably figured they'd be better off not bothering."

... Or something. Really, Nathan had no idea how the house was still standing, but he was thankful it was.

"He lives with you?" Peter asked. "I met him out in the park, just slicing up sharks because he apparently got bored inside."

He shook his head. Not that he hadn't been outside himself, but he'd been out to help, not because it seemed like fun.

"That sounds like Magnus, yes," Nathan confirmed, smirking a little in spite of himself. "I've got two people living in the same house as me, currently. The other one happens to be the new sheriff in town."

Which...

Hey. Liam seemed like decent enough people, and it wasn't like Nathan was running around making a nuisance of himself these days.

"That could be handy, I guess," Peter said. He'd had good and bad experiences with cops, personally, but mostly he was hoping this guy knew how to handle the island.

"So, a sheriff, a florist, and an utterly insane person?" He grinned. "Sounds like the start of a joke."

"You figure Magnus is insane?" Nathan chuckled and shook his head. "His heart is usually in the right place. He's just... young, I suppose."

Actually...

"Besides, you should have seen the moronic things I got up to before I settled down."

"Not necessarily insane in a bad way," Peter said. "He reminds me of an old friend of mine."

He grinned. "Do I want to know your moronic things?"

"I'm pretty sure everyone at least has one old friend like him," Nathan mused. "I've got a few."

Stephen was a little bit like a budget Boo. Oh, Minsc, Nathan missed you so.

"I'd say you wouldn't believe me if I told you, but really, we just lived through a hurricane that threw around talking sharks wearing hats. I imagine you'd believe basically anything, at this point."

"Got dragged here in a demon's death throes after a mage conjured him and he fought a group of Shadows and the UN," Peter said. "I was primed for weird anyway. And yeah, flying, singing sharks. I'm good to believe a lot of things."

"I understood the first half of that," Nathan mused, reaching a hand up to scratch thoughtfully at his cheek. "I suppose 'I was turned into multiple animals in quick succession while leading the charge against a voodoo zombie master alongside a tribe of gremlins during the zombie apocalypse' isn't all that odd after the demon's death throes thing, hm?"

"It ranks up there," Peter said. "Was there a reason for all the animals, or was it just random?"

[shiroi_tiger]

"I'm guessing he was trying to slow us down," Nathan mused, and then he shrugged. "More useful in the few moments I spent as a shark. Less useful in the few moments I was a tiger."

"I would've thought it was the other way around, unless you were in water," Peter said.

[shiroi_tiger]

"Useful for him," Nathan corrected, wryly.

"Right." Peter nodded. "Took a few out as a tiger then, did you?"

[shiroi_tiger]

"Oh, in those few moments, I was fierce," Nathan chuckled, shaking his head. "I think I liked the tiger bit the best."

It certainly beat the whole 'zombies eating everyone on the island all because of a game of paintball' thing.

Or was it laser tag?

Either way.

"It's a good shape," Peter agreed.

[shiroi_tiger]

"Of course, this one has served me fairly well, too," Nathan added. "I probably wouldn't trade it for another chance at being a tiger."

He paused, and then added, "It would be far more difficult to write entries into my journal, for a start."

Peter laughed. "We could get you a really big pencil."

[shiroi_tiger]

"And a shiny new pair of opposable thumbs?"

He was going to need those if he was going to be doing much writing.

"I'm sure someone here could make...I don't know, gloves with opposable thumbs?"

Peter laughed. "Or you could just stay human-shaped."

[shiroi_tiger]

"If I have any say in the matter..." Nathan chuckled and shook his head. "We'll see what the island thinks, I suppose. It always seems to have different plans than I do."

He was here, after all.

"No accounting for the whims of sentient landmasses?" Peter asked.

[shiroi_tiger]

"Especially not ones that think they have a sense of humor," Nathan agreed.

"Best just to humor it, I guess," Peter said.
