Of course the Carnival offers plenty of food too, and there are rides and games for everyone to enjoy.

There is also glitter, to no ones surprise.

"You kidding?" Sparkle was laughing, too, shaking his head. "Man, I can't even bring home a cat. But I guess if the croc is staying with you..."

"But a croc is so much cooler than a cat," Cade wheedled.

"I guess I could keep it in the upstairs apartment at the clothing shop, instead..."

Sparkle, that was a terrible idea.

"That's a great idea!"

Never listen to Cade.

"Might be a little big for the bathtub, though. Maybe I should build a pool on the roof, instead."

So that he could have a crocogator come crashing inside along with the sharks next time the weather got weird!

That would be awesome!

Terrible. Cough. Just terrible.

"That might be better," Cade agreed. "We can pick up an inflatable one on the way back from the zoo."

This was a terrible, terrible idea.

"Yeah," Sparkle laughed. "We can just teach the crocogator to not eat that, too."

Easy!

"How hard can that be?" Cade said, scoffing.

"I mean, it's probably just a matter of a rolled-up newspaper and maybe some treats for positive reinforcement," Sparkle mused.

"A few extra ducks should do it," Cade said.

"Well, then I'll leave the duck-catching to you," Sparkle said, grinning. "You have experience already, after all."

"I can always use an extra pair of hands for the duck-catching," Cade said.

Because he was very, very bad at it.

"I mean, I have never caught a duck in my life," Sparkle pointed out. "I'd probably hurt it."

The duck that they were going to just feed to a large reptile anyway, yes.

"We're gonna feed it to the crocogator," Cade said. "That probably doesn't matter."

"Fair enough," Sparkle replied after a pause. "Then maybe I'm more worried about the ducks hurting ME."

"They're assholes," Cade said, glaring at them.

"We could just, like, put the crocogator in the pond," Sparkle mused.

"And then we wouldn't have to catch the karking ducks at all," Cade said, frowning thoughtfully.

"Right," Sparkle agreed. "We wouldn't have to worry about the inflatable pool, either."

Maybe people who tried to pick fights at Caritas would have some new concerns, though.

"Probably easier not to have to make a stop with a crocogator in the back of the car," Cade said, nodding.

"Right?" Sparkle grinned a little. Then paused. Then blinked. "What car?"

Cade waved off such trifling details. "Somebody's car. We can find one at the zoo."

"Can you drive a car?"

Sparkle could probably fake it, at least?

"I can pilot a spacecraft that can go into hyperspace," Cade said. "How hard can a car be?"

So no.

... This was how it was all going to go bad for them, wasn't it?

"I mean, I can't argue with that logic."

No, Sparkle, you could. You could and should.
