For some strange reason Kitty was completely distracted tonight. Work was sort of getting done, if not all the way before she wandered onto something else, but you know what, she was trying.

Again, sort of. There were new printed menus around, though they weren't the finalized versions since she figured someone might try to make an addition or a change or whatever. That was about all that had actually been accomplished.

Now please, distract her from her distraction, before she drives Tino insane.

Where your bartender has maybe figured out that timing means a lot of awkward questions about what she’s doing in a bar around Parebts Weekend and homecoming.

"Kitty, hey," Kanan said, grinning as he slid into a seat at the bar. "Normally I'd just order a beer, here, but there's a drink on that menu with my name on it."

With... coconut. Because he was hairy.

"I'm still wondering if I need a haircut," he confessed. "How goes it?"

“It’s... going.” It’s been a really weird week so far if you were her. “Uhh, would you like your Kanan with or without hair?”

She was trying to save him.

"Without," Kanan said immediately. "I'll shave my face and cut this," he waved a hand to his ponytail, "off if that's what it takes. Please save me from my own hair, Kitty."

He would... probably not do either of those things. Maybe. He was undecided.

"Going?" He added that part a little belatedly, mostly because he definitely needed to be rescued from the coconut. "That good, huh?"

“No shaving needed, I got you,” Kitty assured him, starting on the drink. It still wouldn’t be kind to his liver, but at least it was a thing people drank.

“And it’s not bad. It’s great, actually,” she added. “It’s just been kind of an unexpectedly big couple days.”

Being kind to his liver had never actually been that high on his list of priorities. Since the end of the war, he hadn't exactly figured on living long enough for it to become an issue, anyway. He gave her a thankful little grin and a nod, and then settled in and waited for his drink, sans hair.

"Ah," he said, giving a little nod. "Still processing some good news, then? Well, then I'm glad I don't have to offer condolences or something."

'Going' was one of those words that could go either direction. Kanan almost exclusively used it for the unfortunate one.

“Definitely no condolensces,” Kitty said, finishing up the drink and sliding it over. It was also a quick drink. “Like... you ever have something happen and you mostly have to constantly tell yourself that it’s real?”

Kanan gave her a wry smile as he picked up his drink.

"It's happened once or twice," he replied. He'd leave out the fact that they were never good somethings. He didn't want to rain on her parade today. "The big stuff, right? Life-changing, whatever that entails?"

“Yep. And you should be having a real reaction but your brain is too busy going ‘obviously that can’t be right,’” she said, leaning on the bar.

"Because it isn't the way things have ever been, so why should they all of a sudden be that way now?"

Kanan took a mouthful of his drink. Let the taste of it kind of settle on his tongue.

"And how can that be the new status quo going forward? That's not how that really works, is it?"

“Yes, thank you, you are helping,” Kitty said, relieved.

Kanan shrugged easily, and then took another mouthful of his... well. His hairless Kanan.

"We aren't hard-wired for processing huge changes," he offered. "Whatever it is, good or bad. We find a situation that's comfortable or familiar and we settle into it. It's normal to need some time to process things that are big, no matter what they are. You'll adjust in your own time, there's no shame in that."

“Thanks,” Kitty said, sincerely. Maybe she’d needed to hear that a little. “”Usually I’m the one giving advice. It’s new to get it from the other dude if the bar.”

"Used to be a bartender myself," Kanan offered up easily. "Maybe not the greatest bartender Gorse has ever known, but I kept the miners in check when I had to, and that was good enough for me to keep my job while it lasted."

“I feel like miners probably aren’t looking for a showy bartender anyway,” Kitty said. “You get the drinks and listen when they need to talk.”

"There was nothing nearly as fancy as the Hera on the menu," Kanan agreed. "And the food wasn't anything to write home about, either."

For that, you wanted to take a walk down the road and eat at Drakka's, assuming you didn't get mugged on the way.

"Gets you good at listening, though. I can't complain about that."

“That’s actually my favorite part of the job,” Kitty admitted. “People loosen up to get honest and make actual connections, every once in a while you can actually help... Speaking of, got any troubles you want to complain about?”
