Luke's, Sunday
There was a teenager standing next to Kanan behind the counter at Luke's today. A faintly bemused looking teenager, with green hair and ears that were faintly tinted the same, slurping at a chocolate milkshake and shooting the shit with the kitchen staff while occasionally giving Kanan a speculative glance, here and there.
Kanan was managing to play it cool. He hadn't freaked out over Anan saying weird things about his eyes last year, he was absolutely not going to freak out over Jacen and what he had to say this year.
Nope. Not freaking out.
The specials board was, perhaps, predictable.
Today's Specials:
Pancakes! With any toppings you like!
It seemed fitting for a day like today, all things considered.
You know. Sunday.

Talk to Kanan!
Re: Talk to Kanan!
“So how’s your weekend going?” Kitty asked, totally innocently.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
He glanced at Lexi.
"Probably about as interesting as yours, I'd guess?"
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Lexi, for her part, waved dutifully, still distracted by the specials board.
Kitty glanced at Jacen, not wanting to stare at him or anything, and said, “Good interesting or bad interesting? Or the kind of interesting that just makes your head hurt?”
Re: Talk to Kanan!
"... I haven't decided yet," Kanan settled on. "He's a good kid, but he seems a lot more comfortable around Hera. And around my dog, I guess, but Stance is Stance."

Re: Talk to Kanan!
Most of the get-up had been at Hematemisis's insistence, because she thought her mother looked "like a total nerd." The crown, however, was a joint decision by the both of them, in a moment that really cinched the deal that, yeah, this was definitely her daughter, though, really, there was no denying it from the get go.
She was followed by a small child in a similar set of scrap metal armor with a metal bucket helmet over her head, who kicked the door open with a yell when they walked in. Summer flinched, picked her up, and plopped her down on a stool before having a seat herself. "Stay," she warned the girl, who was already starting to climb down, but she settled obediently at her mother's word. Summer threw in an extra lingering glare of warning before her attention went across the counter to Kanan.
"So, this is fun," she offered by way of greeting.
[[aaaaand please to not mind the SP]]
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Not far off, Jacen was looking up at Junkyard Kid, and then at who was clearly Junkyard Mom, and nodding a little. Ah. That made sense.
"You look ready for... I want to say battle," Kanan noted, "but I'm not so sure spacer's tape is the way to go if you're looking for actual structural integrity on your armor."
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Hematemisis banged her fists on the counter in a rhythmic cadence as her little voice echoed within her bucket. "We demand sustenance! Bring us the flesh of your finest warriors or we will have no choice but to take it from them ourselves!"
Summer's grin was strained, drawing in a breath through her teeth. "Sooooo....remember the other day when we were sorta talking about how there's a lot of stuff we don't know about each other?
"Also," she added, "we'll have pancakes. Blueberry. With a big side of sausage and bacon." She gave a glance to the little warrior beside her, still banging her fists before Summer put out her hand to stop them. "And a big glass of orange juice."
Hematemisis definitely had scurvy.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
The bucket was an interesting lifestyle choice. Not one he particularly cared for, but there were reasons for that.
"So, I have a feeling there's a story here."

"But, like, Mom is definitely coming, right?" he asked. "Shouldn't we have waited for her? I wouldn't have minded waiting for her."
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Because who wouldn't want double the Silly?
"It's fine," he added. "She won't be long."
Re: Talk to Kanan!
"She will give Silly back, right?" Because that was his. From his mom. He didn't want to lose Silly, no matter how wonderful it was to actually meet his mom.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
That was great, Zack. That would totally work, sure.

The pair looked at one another, were silent for a moment, and then Jacen offered, "Great," and about the same time Kanan said, "Fine."
...
"I have a milkshake," Jacen offered, breaking another weird silence. "Chocolate goes really good with this pepper they have on Earth, you should try it, Mom."

Re: Talk to Kanan!
And take a minute to just sort of breathe while Jacen touched base with his mother. Because this... this had all been a little on the awkward side, and he had no idea what he was doing.

"Hey," she said, looking for her boys. Ah, there they were. "Isn't this fun?"
This was not her definition of fun. Not exactly.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
Guess which kid in the diner was his. The eyebrows alone probably gave it away.
Re: Talk to Kanan!
"What gave it away?" Ino asked, smiling slightly. "The hair? The eyes? All of the above?"
As she continued her survey of the diner, her smile widened. "I see you've got your own mini."
Re: Talk to Kanan!
For what it was worth, if nothing else, Jacen had wound up with blue eyes instead of his parents' green. Because not all of him had a verdant tint, thank you.
