Putting the forge in early had been a big mistake. Because now Amaya had to go do her other (other) job when all she wanted to do was play around with metal and hammer stuff, get her new anvil nice and broken in and test just how hot she could get the thing going. But, no, she had a store to run, too, and that meant making orders and checking stock and balancing books, and she almost regretted her decision to just bypass the ordering process on Seivarden's tea by just up and sending Apu to go get some.

Almost. Apu probably hadn't had a vacation in, like, fifteen years, and though he'd only be gone for a little bit, it was probably good for him to get out of the store and visit his family and stuff. With the added benefit of returning with some tea, because, after hearing Seivarden's radio...yeah...there really was no reason to wait for shipping when they had Portalocity at their fingertips other than just prolonging her misery.

So Amaya was tinkering. Her fingers were itching for something, so it was time to break open that Squishy machine yet again and see if she had any better luck this time around with the Red flavor. She took a small break to make a quick phone call when Apu returned with the tea, and got back to work, feeling pretty confident about the adjustments. Until she actually put it back together and pulled the levers.

Darjeeling (with glitter)
Earl Grey (with glitter)
Red (with glitter)

Her irritation with that flow of red slushy goodness pouring from the nozzle was only superseded by her confusion about another factor: "Wait, why is there glitter??"

Kaidan went to T&C to check out their baking supplies, looking for small metallic nonpareils or crunchies for the raven. He saw the freezy machine and walked over, thinking one of those would go down well, in the warmth of the day.

He saw the glitter. He laughed, almost helplessly, and pulled out his phone. He texted Sparkle.

Whatever you're doing right now is not as important as coming to the Turtle & Canary right now. Trust me.

Well, with a text like that...

I'm making an 'open' sign out of tea. On a scale from one to HOLY SHIT SPARKLE how awesome is the thing I'm missing out on?

Pettiness was one of his favourite priorities, okay?

Kaidan snapped a picture and sent it.

OH MY GOD I WILL PAY YOU MONEY TO BRING ME A GLITTERY EARL GREY SQUISHY??

Glittery tea squishies were also one of his favourite prioriites, it so happened.

Kaidan grinned at the allcaps.

Alright. I'll be over when I'm done shopping.

He located the bakery section and didn't quite find what he wanted, but did find some silver cake jimmies. Those would work in the short term.

Back to the squishy machine, he got two large - one Darjeeling, one Earl Grey. When he went to the counter to pay, he might have been snickering a little under his breath.

Really, it was glitter AND tea AND a squishy all in one. It was like the squishy machine was doing Sparkle's job for him, and it was going to be delicious.

YOU'RE MY HERO

Apparently it didn't take much, these days!

"Kaidan." Always glad to see a familiar face, Amaya nodded when he eventually made his way over to the checkout. "Looks like you've got yourself a project in mind."

And, eyeing the Squishies, she wondered if she should start putting glitter in them all the time.

"Hi Amaya," Kaidan greeted, "Not a project. They're treats for corvids. They like shiny, these are at least edible so I don't have to make one puke up a shiny dime again." Because that hadn't been a fun experience.

Holding up a freezie, Kaidan said, "These are great. Do they always have glitter in, or is that just for the tea?"

"Just for today, actually," said Amaya, slowly, because she hadn't thought it might have something to do with the tea flavors in particular, but considering all the tea-related drama being offered by the island, she now wasn't so sure. "I was trying to fix the red again, and when I finished up, boom, there it was. Glitter in every pour, and I certainly didn't put it there..."

There was a slight pause. "Sounds like your bird problem's about as persistent as my red problem..."

Kaidan blinked, "The raven? Nah, he's not a problem. He actually really smart, and helps out in the shop. He's more a friend, really."

Kaidan, you damn Disney princess.

"The tea thing.. I asked because Sparkle was looking for, uh, interesting things to do with tea and I suggested edible glitter. That's actually how I thought to come in here for the cake toppers - he said you might have them," Kaidan offered.

"Huh," said Amaya, looking faintly amused. "Doesn't that just beat all? I guess it's not too surprising if you consider how strange this place can be; I have a feeling it sometimes just catches wind of something and sort of...sticks to it a little."

"Maybe the island's having a petty streak, too," Kaidan shrugged, "It's probably earned it. These are nice, though." He gestured at the cup, "Very pretty."

Despite appreciating the appreciation, Amaya couldn't help making a little bit of a face. "Not used to stuff I make being....pretty..."

She didn't think it was a trend she'd care to continue if she could help it, either.
