The Beach, Tuesday Night

Ino had sent an island-wide text to the beach: Firework party at the beach tonight!

She and Reno hadn't really had to do much past that. It wasn't a birthday party, or a surprise party, and the beach and the fireworks would be more than enough decoration for a spur of the moment thing like this.

There was pizza (of all kinds), chips, soda, and Reno'd been good to his word for grabbing a few cases of beer and coolers. She'd brought a couple of blankets and lawn chairs down to the beach for people who didn't think ahead to bring their own.

Groovy Tunes had been cheerfully ransacked (she'd left Jono a sticky note asking permission) and so music was blaring out over the beach, inviting people to come on down if her text message hadn't been enough for them.

Even if no one else showed up, it was going to be a good time. Explosions, music, food, and fun were going to happen no matter what.

"See, I don't know the guy and my sad girl eyes need a bit of work," Reno joked, smirking. "Somethin' I'm gonna have to work on?"

Ino held her hands up like she was framing a picture of his face.

"I don't think you could pull off sad girl eyes," she mused.

"Damn," Reno said with a snap of his fingers. "Guess I'll have to just keep makin' do with confusin' the shit outta people, instead."

Such hardship.

Such torture!

"It's more fun anyway," she said, laughing. "Confusin' people ain't the most useful thing always but it's definitely the most entertaining."

"The interview process for movin' into the house," Reno noted, "involved runnin' laps. Kinda great yo. Gotta appreciate a bunch'a housemates that can't come up with better'n that."

"That's pretty pathetic," she said. "I'd have thought better of Miguel."

Ino liked Miguel.

"Maybe they ought to be tossed into an improv class or somethin'. Sign them all up against their will!"

"Well, Miguel had me climb to the roof," Reno mused, amused. "An' then decided it was cheatin' when I ran up there instead."

He could have just jumped up. At least his way had involved touching the wall?

"Is... getting to the roof supposed to be a challenge?" Ino wondered.

Because, uh, well.

Yeah.

"That's even worse than laps."

"Hey, ain't just anyone around here who can pull it off," Reno pointed out. And then smirked a little. "Just most people. They got a low bar in that house, yoto."

"The lowest of low bars," she said, "though I been noticin' there seem to be less powered people 'round here than there used to be."

"Hard to miss," Reno agreed, frowning. "Not sure what the hell to take outta that, but it's definitely somethin'. Means the rest of us got our work more cut out for us when the island pulls somethin' shitty."

"It's kind of creepy, honestly."

Ino shrugged a little, shifting.

"Not that I'm worried 'bout surviving, but it's almost like, I don't know, the island will get rid of us slowly, by makin' it so we can't pull our asses out of the fire eventually."

Reno frowned a little at that.

"We still got... some of the older folks," he noted. "But hell, I dunno what that means in a place like this."

It got his hackles up. He hated to think about it.

It hit a little too close to home.

It was both depressing and disturbing to consider, it really was.

"Me neither," she said, "and there ain't nothing we can do 'bout it either. Not really."

"Nothin' but be ready ourselves," Reno agreed. He shook his head. "I don't like it."

Which was about as close to sharing and caring as Reno ever got, really.
