The beach, Saturday afternoon/evening

So today was the first official meeting of the Drunk and Bored club. Miguel had brought a few bottles of brandy and two of rum, since he had no idea what Fjord liked to drink. Also a twelve-pack of cider that had looked good. Hey, it wasn't like he had a lot of other things to spend his money on these days.

There were also plenty of leftover waffles from the diner, so they had some food to go along with all the alcohol.

When he got there, there was a pile of wood that looked about ready for a fire, so he checked it over, added a little of the brandy, and set it alight.

Hm. Should he throw rocks while he waited, or just sit here and watch the waves?

Fjord, unfortunately, hadn't brought much along. He was still living on the good graces of others, and while he had enough money to keep himself fed at least until the school issued him his first pay, he felt bad spending too much on alcohol in the meantime. Still, he refused to come empty handed, and so he was coming with a six-pack of what he'd been assured was beer.

Cheap beer. In... metal containers of some sort.

"Miguel," he said, fairly affably, as he spotted the other man on the beach. "Please, tell me I did this right?"

He held up the six-pack.

It claimed to be beer. Don't ask him how to get to the contents.

"I'd question your taste if I thought you knew what Coors was, but other than that, completely right," Miguel assured him. "And heck, maybe you'll like that. I've got plenty of other stuff if you don't."

He took the beer, pulled the tab on a can, and handed it back, then pulled the top off a bottle of cider. "Cheers."

"Cheers," Fjord replied, grinning as he took the can back and held it aloft. "To boredom and liquid solutions for it."

He really needed to figure out what the hell people did for fun around here. Or for training? Or in general. Hell.

One negative side to this whole not-being-pestered-to-do-radio thing on Saturday mornings was that Rosa and her dog had gotten into a new habit of taking a walk soon after she got done with the thing, and not doing that today threw Arlo 2 way off, making her restless and playful at about the time she was usually settling down for the night. Time to grab the leash, then, and let the dog work down some of that energy so the puppy didn't end up running around keeping her up all hours of the night.

Not really caring what route they took, Rosa let Arlo 2 sort of lead the way, which may have gone to her benefit. Had the dog wittingly brought her to the beach knowing, somehow, that there was alcohol there? Probably not, but one did have to wonder...

A few people out, and, as she got closer, Rosa realized she could vaguely recognize them, cocked a chin up, and tightened the leash a little so Arlo 2 didn't go leaping herself into the fire like the dummy she was.

"What is this?" she asked. "I'm not interrupting a date or anything, am I?"

"So how's your first week been?" Miguel asked. "What's your first impressions of Fandom?"

"You," Miguel told her, "are just in time for the first...annual? Monthly? Weekly?...meeting of Fandom's 'Drunk and Bored' club. Feel like joining up?" He held up one of the bottles of rum.

"Confusing," Fjord chuckled, shaking his head. "Beginning to realize just how generous people are. One person gave me a... phone. Another is paying for my stay in the hotel until I can make my own way. It's all a little overwhelming."

"Drunk and Bored Club?" Rosa asked, with a quirk of her eyebrow. "I thought that was Tuesday nights at Caritas."

Well, it's not like it was ever made official or anything.

"Right now, I only fit half the criteria," she added, with not exactly a subtle glance over to the things that might resolve such a conflict before looking down at her dog, who was definitely going to go sniff at Miguel's feet.

Seivarden had taking a walk after feeding Issa, hoping that she wouldn't encounter anyone, but shortly after noticing Miguel, whom she didn't know, she saw there were bottles. Hesitating at first, she then said:

"So, is this a party?"

She said it in a tone that could be interpreted as irony of any kind, in case this was a private event of some kind.

"See, and all I did was invite you to a club," Miguel said, grinning. "I'm falling behind."

"Club field trip," Miguel said, deadpan. "You must've missed the memo. And that is a tragedy. Beer, cider, rum, brandy...?" he offered.

"Drunk and Bored club," Miguel said, squinting up from behind his sunglasses. "You looking to join?"

That actually sounded like the perfect club for her right now, even if it included other people.

"Any other requirements other than being drunk or bored?"

"Well, if it makes you feel any better, it's still the only club I've been invited to," Fjord drawled, then took a long pull of his beer.

"Well, that's total shit, isn't it?"

Tellin' it like it is, that Fjord.

"No rum," Rosa said, maybe a bit too quickly, but she had been enjoying a very specifically rum-free day, thank you. She considered the brandy, but then thought, with the beach and the fire, a cold one sounded good. "Beer."

"And, not or," Miguel corrected. "Drunk and bored. We don't take people who're only one unless you're working on the other one, too." He looked at the bottles of alcohol they had. "Also we might have to start charging dues if we go through this much."

He shrugged. "Otherwise, pull up a patch of sand."

Miguel laughed. "I think so, but I wasn't gonna judge. Want a cider or some rum?"

So there she was, enjoying a pretty decent night with beer, Captain Tightpants, New Green Guy, and her dog entertaining herself by rolling around in the sand, and Rosa looked up at someone else approaching and just about damn near did a spit-take.

No spit-take, but definitely a double-take to make sure she wasn't just seeing things.

"What the hell are you doing here?"

"Beer it is. I'm warning you, the new guy bought it, and didn't know what he was getting."

It was Coors. So, nominally beer?

He pulled one out of the pack and held it out to her.

"Rum," Fjord settled on. "Please."

He smirked faintly.

"And if it isn't any good, I'll try to be kind enough to not say so."

Seivarden shrugged, looked for a good spot and sat down.

"Any particular reason for this, other than being bored?"

Seivarden looked up.

"What are you doing here?"

She wasn't actually that surprised, 'drunk and bored' did seem to fit Rosa too.

"Not much for dating," Fjord noted, considering the woman and the woman's dog.

Alright, sure. He gave both a shrug and a nod toward the alcohol, sort of an invitation, and then added, "The beer's shit. I'd avoid it."

Fjord considered the new person - another human, they were all human, of course this one was human too - and gave a polite sort of nod.

"Not much of a party. More a... gathering of like-minded individuals looking to improve the ass-end of an otherwise unremarkable week."

Said the man who had been kidnapped by an island exactly a week ago.

Miguel laughed again. "Hey, feel free to tell me it's shit, and I'll get something else next time. I don't really know my rum, I just figured, not everybody likes brandy, I'll get something that's not the cheapest and not the most expensive."

He passed Fjord a bottle.
