Groovy Tunes, Sunday

All told, Jonothon was actually feeling pretty good today. The past week had seen some improvement while he'd picked up the pieces, and when he came in to work today, he was actually feeling more or less like himself. Minus... some of what had been himself for a while, granted.

Even so, he was settling in at the counter with one of the guitars, and was playing his way through as much Pearl Jam as time would allow. Because it had been far too bloody long, alright?

So, Miguel had been keeping an eye out, and wandering by the store occasionally, and finally caught Jonothon in it.

Then he hesitated. There was no way this was not going to be weird.

Sighing, he went in.

"Hi." Miguel waved awkwardly at him. "So...how are you doing?" That was a good start, right?

"Oh, good." Miguel fidgeted. "So...um. I kind of feel like I owe you an apology. For a few weeks ago? Despite the island's weird and whatever Iris has roped me into, I am not usually mad."

"Surprisingly enough, no," Miguel said. "I appreciate it, though. Also I may still have...some things of yours."

You know, blood and pieces.

"I wasn't really sure what to do with them."

"I don't usually have any," Miguel said. "I suppose I'd either take it to the clinic to dispose of, or take it back to my group's base and let Blink blink it into nothingness."

He rubbed the back of his neck. "I'll still do whichever of those you prefer, but - I'm a geneticist. I'm not mad, but I am curious. About you, about what this island does to people. I'd like to run some tests on what I've got, if that's okay with you. I'd let you know anything I found out."

"Sequencing your DNA," Miguel said. "To see what I can find out about how your mutation works. Comparing it to mine and to someone who hasn't lived on the island, to see if the island itself makes a notable difference. Checking the blood to see if it still holds any mercury - which it doesn't seem to - or is completely changed back from that weekend."

He hesitated. "Some of those would be easier with non-messed-with samples, too, if you feel like giving any more blood, but I can do plenty just with what I've got. Or I can throw it all out; I get it, believe me. I'd still be curious, but I'd live."

Miguel shrugged. "Look at it? Compare it to my teammates', maybe - most of them are mutants. See if I can learn anything from it. Let you know whatever I find out, let you decide what to do with that. I'm not a medical doctor, I'm a PhD; I don't need a practical application to be curious."

He grimaced. "Look, the last time I tried for a practical application, I ended up with talons and spinnerets. Like I said, I get it. If you're not comfortable, I'll get it destroyed. Or give it back to you so you can."
what_the_shock: (Oh)

Miguel blinked again, having already been figuring out the best way of disposing of the samples.

"Absolutely," he told Jono. "Thank you." He paused. "Is there anything you'd like me to research?"

"Fair enough."

Miguel stuck out his hand. "I appreciate this, you know. And I'm still sorry about that weekend."
