That Warehouse O'Kanan's, Friday
Well, it was another rainy day, apparently, and so Kanan was once again in the warehouse for his Friday routine. Said routine, at this point, mostly just involved coming in after class, reaching for a weapon, and running through forms until somebody inevitably arrived or called or otherwise interrupted. Not that he minded the interruptions, either. After all, if he didn't want to be interrupted, he wouldn't have invited folks along in the first place.
Today he had yet another sword for the collection, as well. The one that Amaya had crafted for him was... more ornate, with more spikes than he would ever have incorporated into a weapon of his own design, but he was impressed enough by how it felt in his hand that he was going to work with it today regardless, trying to see if he could adapt his usual lightsaber forms to account for a blade that was flat and not made of plasma.
There were a few false starts before he really got the feel for it, but once he worked out when to turn his wrist and how to account for certain motions besides, the going was actually pretty smooth.
[OOC: Open warehouse!]

It also spoke to how early she'd been up and moving.

It already had several new photos of the good good boy uploaded to it.

There was no way he'd consider making one otherwise, really.

no subject
He really wouldn't.
A moment later, he added, The sunrises on Jakku are stunning. I had no idea.

And Rey had maybe gotten spoiled seeing then happen in better places.
no subject
Not just to remind her what she was missing out on.
no subject
Kanan was really her only connection to anything outside Jakku now. She'd take literally anything he sent.
You're getting up that early on purpose?

In a rain suit and with his daypack, he arrived at the warehouse. Kanan was playing with live steel, so Kaidan kicked back a foot and held up the wall by the door. Crossing his arms over his chest, he relaxed and just watched for a bit.

"Hey, you made it," he said, grinning a little crookedly. "Two weeks in a row! Maybe you'll be half-decent with a sword eventually yet."

It was gorgeous. He was impressed and intimidated by it in equal measures mostly for that reason. But it felt right in his hand. She had an eye for what a swordsman needed, and that was more important than how it looked, by far.
"It's not what I'm used to, but that's not a bad thing."

He nodded toward the leaf blade, propped against the wall.
"It's less borrowed, more owned now. I have to say, her customer service is every bit as good as her craftsmanship."
... He was still confused about the spikes.

He walked over and picked up one of the very much not metal thank you swords. Nodding at the blade in Kanan's hand, "You working with that today?"
He didn't mind. It's not as though he'd get stabbed in the eye with it or anything.
[ooc: cw on that link it is literally what the line says]

He lifted a shoulder.
"I'm still working this one out. Those spikes are going to be a challenge. One side of the blade is more likely to cause, uh, somewhat messier damage than the other."
Much, much messier. Lightsaber wounds didn't tend to bleed in the first place.

She really, really did.
"The green steel's a nice touch, though."

It was horrifying.
"The plasma burns might be kinder."
He turned it over in his hand, considering it. Yeah. He was still amazed by and terrified of it in about equal measures.
"That said, the craftsmanship is amazing. And it... feels right, to my hand. If I don't think too hard about it, it handles well." He paused. And then he nodded toward the selection of stuff he had propped against the wall. "She threw in the simpler blade I'd been using over the summer too. In case you need something to spar with, if you don't mind me figuring out how this thing handles."
no subject
He paused.
"I think."
no subject
He held it out toward him, in offer.
"But give it a feel. Whatever she ends up adding to yours, at least you know it'll have good balance."
