The Beach; Tuesday after Classes [11/06].
Sidon had been looking forward to this occasion since well before he'd even made the plans with Vette to meet at the beach that day, for swimming lessons, for dinner, for whatever else they might deign to involve themselves in, even though he did so with a great bit of trepidation as well, uncertain of how his little gift might have been received. He supposed he'd find out soon enough, when Vette arrived, if she arrived. He...tried not to think about that. He tried to push all of his nervousness aside and just focus on the task at hand.
Of course, it was easy to forget how nervous one was when one was subsequently completely bewildered. Because when he got to the beach, there was something very distinctly...unbeachlike about it, as there appeared to be no water. There were still fish, appearing to be floating suspended in the air as they swam around in what seemed to invisible water, stretching out as far as he could see. Confused, Sidon went to test the water, and it still felt like water, he could swim in it like water, but it just...wasn't there.
This was...this was going to be an exceptionally strange swimming lesson.
...but, he reasoned, it would be far easier for him to show off his fishing if the water remained so transparent and...non-existent.
He did find, however, that, occasionally, for small stretches of time, the water would return. But not for long before it disappeared again, or, sometimes, it would be different colors. Green, wine red, occasionally just deep, deep black.
And at least one rather shocking moment where Sidon found himself surrounded by lava, though it didn't seem to actually be harmful in the slightest.
Yes, this was going to be an interesting afternoon, indeed.
[[ I literally just found out about Sidon-in-Lava last night! Expecting one, but, hey, it's a beach! It's open! Vette's thread last chronologically, though, of course! ]]

But what she was wearing? Totally that red shirt and the scarf Sidon had given to her. She couldn't even take them off for the swim.
... Not that it looked like it was going to be an issue, as she arrived at the beach.
"I don't want to know what happened to the water," she said, once again in that other person's voice, "do I?"
no subject
A confusion that managed to grow even deeper when he saw Vette there. Confusion at first, followed by an almost tidal-strength wave of relief, which then ebbed back out into confusion.
"Ah, good," he said, unable to help smiling, pleased, despite his bewilderment. "You made it. But..." His expression made way for a new emotion to surface: concern. "Are you feeling alright? You sound...different."
no subject
"I'm fine" Vette said, though she sounded more than a little exasperated, rolling her eyes to the sky. "This has been happening all day. This, and one really twitchy lek, and--"
Her entire person disappeared from view. Except, of course, her blasters. Which was funny, since she hadn't even been carrying them with her.
"This one. This one's fun."
At least her voice was back to normal now?
no subject
But she, apparently, was still there, just like the water had been.
"Do...do you suppose we should perhaps, err...reschedule?"
He didn't necessarily want to, of course, but this was...worrisome. He didn't like to think about the fact that he would not know what to do if she stayed invisible for such long stretches of time as the water had been.
no subject
A pause.
"Probably? If you're feeling up to it."
Like she wasn't the one standing there invisible.
no subject
That seemed the far better question in this situation, and now he had to wonder if eating in her current state would mean the food would also turn invisible once she ate it, or if he'd be looking at little pieces of fish floating in the air, slowly being digested.
"How long has this been lasting?" he asked, hoping he didn't sound as desperate about it as he felt.
no subject
"Only a few minutes at a time," Vette replied. "This is only slightly less annoying than finding myself standing in corners all out of nowhere."
She paused, and then considered Sidon for a moment before softly suggesting, "Close your eyes?"
no subject
"Very well," he said, and did just that, closing his eyes, half worried about what he'd wind up opening them up to, if all the strangeness of the day was to be any indication.
Just as long as it wasn't that lava again, he supposed.
no subject
Vette pulled in a deep breath, and then walked over to him, reaching up and resting her hands on his chest for a moment before leaning in, leaning her cheek against him, too.
"Right here, see? I'm fine, there's just a little... strange." And she hated this island for trotting out that strange on their date day, damn it. "But it all seems to be pretty harmless strange."
And at least she wasn't in her underwear.
no subject
"Harmless," he repeated, "yes. A nuisance and distressing, but harmless overall. You know the sea actually turned to lava for a little while? Not actual lava, of course, else I don't think I'd be standing here right now, but it seemed so very real, but...harmless.
"This is very nice, of course," he added softly, "though I admit I would much rather enjoy being able to see you."
no subject
Why? Because she fully expected a proper kiss would have closed eyes anyway, Sidon, and she was maybe emboldened a little by being temporarily invisible, because she was absolutely leaning up to steal one.
no subject
Well, Sidon had started to reply, and then was very surprised (and pleasantly so!) to be interrupted by a kiss. It certainly caught him off guard; he didn't think he could have ever anticipated such a thing, despite the numerous times he may have imagined the occasion in his own imagination. It didn't take him long, though, for the surprised moment to pass, allowing him to reciprocate, leaning down, drawing her in, just to get closer, grinning into his response.
It was truly a credit to her, as well, that it didn't even once cross his mind how ridiculous he probably looked to anyone passing by, all curled up around nothing and smooching the air between his arms.
no subject
"There we go," she murmured, once she finally leaned back again. "Minutes are up, you can look again."
She was absolutely herself and visible again, with the exception of a few assorted body parts that seemed to have a rainbow grid laid over them. Her right arm. Her left lek. She was going to just cope with that. At least her head wasn't invisible or something.
no subject
"It doesn't...hurt, though, does it?" he asked, and, just as soon as he did, he started....sliding away. He wasn't moving his legs...or any part of himself, really, just started...drifting back and to the right, as if pulled by some invisible string. It was smooth, as though he were on wheels, except for a few moments went that string seemed to catch on something unseen.
"Oh, um...err...."
Well, then.
no subject
"No," she sighed, and started following along after him. "No, it doesn't hurt. But it sure is annoying."
no subject
As she started following along, though, he reached out a hand toward her, thinking perhaps maybe she could be pulled along with him. It hardly seemed fair if he was the only one getting a free, effortless ride across the sand, after all.
"We mustn't let it spoil our afternoon; I know I don't intend for it to, though I will admit, I was rather looking forward to getting in the water with you again, Vette."
Which was...yes, he glanced over his shoulder to confirm that it was still quite not there.
no subject
Sigh. They'd been doing weird things all day, overreacting to physics something terrible.
"There's a technical difficulty or two with that one, huh?"
At least the flying fish were kind of neat?
no subject
Which he rather doubted it would.
"Quite," he agreed, but a light grin played on his face a moment. "Although this does--"
Here, the gliding halted, abruptly. He supposed, normally, he could have trusted physics and momentum to cause Vette to collide into him as a result of the sudden stop, but, since he couldn't trust physics and momentum for anything, apparently, he might be forgiven for giving it a little hand with a little tug to bring her closer, other arm ready to catch her, wrap around her, as his grin sharpened.
"--give me an idea."
no subject
She liked it.
"Or was there more to it than that?"
no subject
"My idea involves relocating, perhaps, to the onsen, where the water...whether it be invisible or pitch black or even lava, will at least be shallow, and, if they wish to reprimand us in regards to our swimming or our lack of what they consider proper swimwear, well, then, we can simply foist the blame onto the oddity of the day that I'm sure no one has quite escaped."
Here, he shrugged his shoulders a little, shook his head in an exaggeration of dismay. "It simply could not be helped!"
no subject
"Great! I haven't been to the onsen yet, but this seems like as good a way as any to get my introduction to it!"
no subject
"Did you still want to eat, though?" Sidon pulled way enough to look down at Vette inquiringly. "Are you hungry at all? It seems it would be wise that, if I am to fish, it should be done now, while there are still some daylight hours."
Not that he couldn't fish just as easily in the approaching evening, of course. But it would be much more difficult to show off during that time...
no subject
"We did agree on a meal and swim lessons," Vette said, smiling up at him teasingly. "I think now is as good a time as any to eat, don't you?"
