Caritas, Tuesday Evening

Kitty was not at the bar tonight. Kitty had some other things to take care of that were rather more important.

Instead, it was Kanan at the bar, with Tino giving him side-eyes that he was steadfastly ignoring as he set about familiarizing himself with where everything was. Kitty really did have a good setup back here, a hell of a lot nicer than any of the cantinas he'd tended bar for back home. Hell, Okadiah would've taken one look at this place, decided, 'now that's more like it,' and then made himself perfectly comfortable back here.

... And now Kanan was getting all sentimental. But it was either that, or fretting over Kitty and baby, apparently?

He poured himself a Coke, settled back, and glanced over at Tino, who was still giving him looks like he was wondering if Kanan was actually supposed to be on this side of the bar, or what.

Kanan retaliated by trying to see how many ice cubes he could bounce off the back of Tino's head when he wasn't looking. He figured he was doing Kitty a service this way. The more time he spent actively tending bar and tormenting Tino, the less time he'd be spending sending texts asking how things were going.

Seivarden entered Caritas, raising her eyebrows when she saw Kanan. "I didn't know you worked here. Has Kitty had her baby?"

Of course, Kanan could have just taken over the Tuesday shift, but a baby seemed a more likely explanation.

"She was checking in when she texted me asking me to cover," Kanan explained, nodding Seivarden's way. "No word yet on whether or not she's actually achieved 'baby' by now, but she's probably got more important things to do than text me about it."

But he was on the edge of his damn seat about it, waiting for one anyway.

"What'll it be, Seivarden?"

Seivarden gave a small nod. "I hope the medical technology for childbirth here is better than it generally is."

She added: "Tequila. And if Rosa tries to get me to pay for her drinks, I'll do it."

It might be her turn, and Rosa might be a bit annoyed if she made it that easy.

Kanan gave his shoulders a shrug.

"No clue," he replied, reaching for the tequila, making a mental note about Rosa's drinks. "The only time I wound up in an Earth medcenter, the cure was coffee."

And he'd hated it. Kark coffee.

Seivarden snorted. "Why am I not surprised."

She watched Kanan pour the drink, quiet mostly because she couldn't think of anything to say.

"Because you have a low opinion of most things around here," Kanan replied easily, sliding the drink her way. "Which is generally not unfounded when it comes to Earth tech, sure, but this was that stupid magical soul-eating meat monster incident. I'm mostly certain coffee isn't a typical Earth medical solution."

Mostly.

Seivarden didn't reply, and instead reached for the glass. She emptied half of it in one go.

"In any case, I hope everything is going well for her."

Rosa did not immediately go to her usual spot with the nearly Rosa-shaped groove in it, because screw that spot. Of course she understood this place well enough to know that the whole merging-into-the-bar thing was a one-time thing, but still. Screw that spot. She was going to make a new spot now, quite a good deal away from the last one, but with the exact same lean as before and the glance over for Kitty.

Who clearly wasn't there, and her eyes locked on Kanan behind the bar for a moment, danced to Tino, then back to Kanan.

"Dope," she said, face breaking into a genuine grin. "Do you know how she's doing? When did it start? It's about freaking time."

And she hadn't sidled them with just Tino. Kitty really was the real MVP.

"It's about freaking time," Kanan agreed with a grin right back. "I'm afraid I don't have many details yet. She sent me a photo of her checking in, asked me to cover, and I've been sitting on my hands trying not to pester Clint ever since."

Which Clint would probably appreciate, since they'd never even met before.

"... Which isn't easy to do," he added.

"Do it," said Rosa, because she was terrible. "Do it anyway. Bother the hell out of him. Bother him so much he wants to throw his phone off a building. Tell him you won't stop until we've got photographic evidence of that dumb kid's face."

Dumb in this instance was clearly a term of endearment, okay?

Kanan barked out a laugh at that.

"Hell, why not. What should text one be? 'Hey, we've never met, how's your wife, how's the kid?'"

Poor Clint.

"Yeah, sure," said Rosa, shrugging, any effort to tamper down her grin clearly failing, but whatever. "It does the trick, covers all the bases. It's his own damn fault for marrying such a cool person that we all like and not just because of booze."

Kanan considered this carefully. For all of two seconds.

"This really just makes me want to see how many of Kitty's regulars we can get to start pestering Clint via text," he noted.

Because Kanan was terrible.

"How else will Kitty know we're thinking of her?"

"Exactly," Rosa agreed easily, already digging out her phone. "I know I'm game, anyway. You got his number?"

Seivarden wasn't sure if Rosa had figured out that she would have her drinks paid tonight if she asked Kanan, but that was something she would have to find out on her own. She leaned against the bar next to Rosa, a glass of tequila in her hand.

"So," she began.

Rosa eyed the glass for a second, noting that it was tequila again, before she tilted her head at Seivarden, lifted a brow.

"So?" she prompted, grinning faintly, more than she might have necessarily wanted to, but, come on, Kitty was finally getting that kid out of her, it was kind of hard not to be in a good mood about that. She cocked her head toward Kanan. "He's not doing half-bad for a fill-in."

And even if he was a terrible bartender, he'd still be better than Tino.

"He's ok, I suppose," Seivarden said, then emptied her glass. "Has Kitty sent you any photos?"

Look, she wanted to see photos.

"Not yet," Rosa shrugged a little, sipping her own drink (whiskey tonight; she'd thought about trying to force Kanan to make some really complicated cocktail, but all she'd get out of that was a little schadenfreude matched with a really shitty drink, probably) with no clear intention of matching Seivarden's pace, at least not yet, it didn't really seem necessary when she was already riding a pretty good natural buzz from playing with weapons all day and the baby news. "But we are pestering Clint with texts about every five minutes until one of them does."

Caritas- covering at the bar. Bacta continues to be wild and wily, but I have a few good leads.

Kanan was in a damn good mood today, yes. Even while Tino squinted at him for pulling out his phone and texting.

Milking bacta isn't so bad. What you have to worry about is having to spend a week in a bantha tank.

Not sure yet. Going to start pestering Clint for updates, last I heard they were just checking in.

He might not be able to text you if Kitty's got like a death grip on his hands or something.

He had no idea what happened when babies were born but all his sappy romcoms indicated there was an amount of hand squishing of the designated alternate parent involved.
