The Streets of Fandom, Monday Afternoon
Vette was a girl on a mission today. Just as soon as she'd realized that a bunch of creepy non-droids were popping up around the island, sticking around just long enough to make people feel uneasy, and then disappearing again, she'd gone and grabbed her tools and a bag and set out in search of the things. It just so happened, she'd learned after a bit of experimentation, that she couldn't just take a whole machine without it disappearing along with the rest of the display, but cracking them open quickly enough and picking out mechanical parts here and there meant that, while the display vanished, the pieces would remain.
And it wasn't stealing if they didn't belong to anybody and they wouldn't exist again in a few minutes anyway, right? That was called scavenging, and it was practically a career path in its own right back home.
She grinned as she detached the lower jaw from a singing puppy dog and inspected it carefully before stuffing it into her bag.
Oh yes. She had plans for these things.

"They have to be," she agreed. "I found some old speeder parts at the scrapyard, too. Old by my standards, I mean."
Which was apparently way back. That had been an interesting thing to learn.
"But that tech is probably too big for a miniprobe." She shrugged. "But there has to be something. I know the junkyard gets picked over a lot, but it'd stink if it was just be a processor here with no other parts anywhere to be seen."

"There might be," Vette agreed. "I've been thinking of handing Hera a shopping list. Or maybe Lana. I don't think Lana has any trouble getting home, either."
The question was whether she wanted to ask the Twi'lek from over three thousand years in her future, or the Sith from far, far closer to her present.

"Right," Vette agreed with a little nod. "The dean might be an option, too. Maybe. I'm not sure if he has access to our galaxy anymore or not, come to think of it."
She tilted her head a little.
"Who else is there from home? The guy who drives the bus, I guess." She knew Kanan's name. That didn't mean she was going to claim to be familiar with the guy at all. "I don't think he'd do me any favors."
Funny how that happened when you took a guy's ship for a joyride.

It might be an adventure.

Vette enjoyed adventure!
But really didn't know Aphra from Adam, so she shrugged a little at that.
"Well, it's a start," she decided. "Maybe I'll start with Hera. Owner of a scrapyard, she's the one most likely to know where to get stuff."
She might not be able to get everything on the list, but maybe a dent in it would be nice...

"Right, and she's got Chop!" Vette gave a silly little smile. "Chop's so great."
She'd called him advanced and more impressive than any other astromech she'd seen before. Chopper was pretty good to Vette.

She liked Chopper. She also recognized that he was an acquired taste, maybe.

"See, and that's exactly why he's so cranky," Vette decided. "No appreciation at all."

"Maybe he really likes orange?"
Okay, Vette was a little at a loss there.
"Well, the one I'm fixing up will totally like getting painted. Probably."
If it had any amount of sentience to it at all, she would have no control over that. But it was nice to dream, right?

"Then maybe Chopper'll see how great it looks and will get jealous," Vette laughed.
... Maybe not. Chopper was gonna chopper.

"Big shrines to Chopper? He'll be thrilled," Vette laughed. "I can't wait to see those when I come in for work."
no subject
Someday she'd get to paint him! And he'd hate it!

"I wonder how he'll take my putting together a miniprobe droid," Vette mused.
Vette, honey.
Honey.
It would not be pretty.
no subject
Yet.
no subject
This poor miniprobe wasn't going to survive a month.
"Maybe I ask for his input on the whole thing...?"
no subject
Look, she was still optimistic about these things.

Except for how Chopper would likely feel personally betrayed. And how nobody on the island could hold a grudge like that droid could.
