Caritas- Tuesday

Kitty was back at work today! She was making an effort, anyway. She'd see how it went when she had a night job and sleep deprivation at the same time, and it was the first time she was away from Lexi like this and she was sending Clint a whole bunch of texts to check in right out of the gate...

And then there was Tino, who just kept running outside to get snowed on just so he could come back in and be insufferable.

So it was an interesting night here at Caritas!

Kanan took one step into Caritas, pulled in a deep breath, exhaled a slow exhale, and... set his umbrella to the side before making his way to the bar.

Sorry, folks. Kanan didn't trust that snow. It was December and nothing else weird had showed up today. Anything that glittery couldn't possibly be good news.

"Kitty! Hey, it's good to see you back!"

Not just because he wasn't being manhandled behind the bar by Tino today, either.

"Thank you! I'm afraid I might've forgotten everything!" Kitty greeted him.

"Well, good thing I'm here to fill you in if you get lost," Kanan laughed, shaking his head and grinning. "Though it shouldn't be that hard to get back into the swing of. I think mine is the most complicated drink the Tuesday regulars bother with, and mine doesn't even have alcohol in it."

"I think you underestimate how much spending time with a one-month old who dominates your schedule will cause your brain to leak out your ears," Kitty told him. "Luckily the ingredients are all listed in the menu."

"I'm sure I'm underestimating a lot of it," Kanan agreed easily. "But I can be patient. Take your time, get back into the swing of it. If you need to tap out while Tino is... whatever that is Tino is doing... just let me know."

"Thank you, I will probably have to take you up on that," Kitty said, eyeing Tino. "Maybe it's because I've been cooped up mostly, but the crazy seems especially crazy today."

Kanan side-eyed Tino right along with her.

"I mean, he's usually pretty crazy, but he seems to be leaning into this one today."

[throughaphase]

"If he gets onstage to give a speech about how great he is I'm going to have to take a break early," she said.

[uncertain_dume]

"If he does that, I wonder if the protection spell in here will understand if I tackle him to try to stuff one of his own socks into his mouth," Kanan mused.

"Probably not, and then you'll be touching his sock," Kitty pointed out.

[uncertain_dume]

Kanan wrinkled his nose a little at that thought, yeah.

"Well, it's nice to consider, right up until I get a handful of sweaty sock and then I end up going for a brisk swim," he decided.

"Which wouldn't wash away the knowledge that you touched the sock," she nodded.

[uncertain_dume]

"Best to just let him gloat, I guess," Kanan sighed, shaking his head almost sadly. "Shame. But hey, at least Tino's happy."

Ha! Rosa didn't need the influence of whatever snowflakes might have landed on her on the way over to be way too overly confident about being proven right that saying screw it and swinging into the bar tonight was a good idea.

It certainly added to it, but it would have been there regardless, really.

"Good," Rosa grinned faintly. "It's going to be much easier convincing you that I deserve a free drink for actually teaching an entire semester of a class without anyone dead."

"You do! Congratulations! And there's a decent shot I'm not making good drinks yet," Kitty warned her, smiling.

"Well," said Rosa, pretty magnanimously, really, "if you need anyone to taste test for quality until you get back into the swing of things, I got your back."

A noble sacrifice, truly.

"I can even start you out easy with a Diaz, if you want."

"Thank you, I know how to do that," Kitty said, reaching for a glass. "So how've you been?"

Rosa shrugged. "Eh," she said, because a truthful answer to that question was a complicated mess that she'd been very actively avoiding, and it wasn't really important, anyway. "What about you? How's the little butthead doing?"

"Adorable and incredibly demanding," Kitty said, smiling. "Already growing up too fast, but that might be the lack of sleep talking."

"So how'd you actually manage to escape?" asked Rosa.

[throughaphase]

"Oh, she has a dad," Kitty explained, sliding over the drink. She even remembered the correct number of ice cubes.

Which was particularly impressive, because Rosa definitely did not remember the correct number of ice cubes. Just another reason why Kitty was the best, really.

She lifted her drink in a salute. "Well, good for her," she toasted, "and good for Dad. You think you'll be back regularly now, or is this more of a just-need-to-get-out-before-I-tear-my-eyes-out sort of thing?"

"I'm trying to be back. We'll see how it goes," Kitty said. "It's going to be hard no matter when I'm back regularly so I figure it's good to make it part of the routine while we're figuring out the routine as long as I feel okay."

Hopefully. She wasn't entirely sure how this went. Parenting!

"You seem to be doing fine," Rosa offered, with a faint note of encouragement, although she really honestly didn't know, but she did know enough people with kids to know that everyone was different, anyway. As long as she didn't go all Terry on them and freak out over every little thing, they'd be fine, but, then again, maybe Terry was allowed, maybe the rules were different with twins.

"And, hey, Kanan did an okay job while you were gone," for the...few times she actually stopped in, "so there's that, if...you know. But it is good to see you back."

Ugh, listen to her. Getting downright heartfelt and emotional. Gross.

[throughaphase]

"Thanks. And I might have to pull Kanan back here a couple times for a break," she said, and paused. "Do you want to see her?"

You did. Trust her.
