Community Center [Thursday evening]

Cold enough that he could no longer really feel his toes and sporting a black eye from where a snow monster had gotten in a lucky shot, Steve made his way back to the community center as the island got dark. He fell on his rear a few times due to the ice he couldn't see and finally got back to the door, more grateful than he wanted to admit to for the warmth of the fire and the sight of people coming together to stay warm and snow monster-free.

"Don't suppose anyone has a hot toddy around?" he asked, shivering.

Liam had spent most of the day doing his own rounds of the island, dispatching snow monsters as necessary. He’d probably go back out in a few hours, but a break to warm up and maybe eat something seemed like a good idea. Not to mention checking in with the other residents of the island.

“That sounds so good right about now,” he said sadly.

[ooc: slowish because hilariously, a windstorm has knocked my power out and there’s no ETA for when it will be back!]

"I could go out and get stuff but it's cold," Steve said. "And I can't really feel my toes. That'll be fixed in about ten minutes...but it's cold."

"Yeah, I'm not crazy about going back out there," Liam admitted. He would, but that didn't mean he had to like it.

Verity was marching over to her boyfriend. "I want you to go out there and arrest them," she said, aware she was being ridiculous, but ticked off anyway. "They shorted out my taser! My favorite taser!"

Yes, she had more than one and, yes, she had a favorite. Neither of these things came as a shock to Liam.

"Your other tasers were probably jealous and paid them off," Liam said solemnly. "So I can add 'accepting bribes' to the list of crimes these snow creatures are responsible for."

"If we heat water over the fire, we can pretend," Kitty said from where she was sitting with Lexi. This kid was getting cuddles 100% of the time.

"If we toss in some beans and play poker, it's almost like being in Belgium in the 40s," Steve said.

That was not as reassuring as you might think, Steve.

"Is that a good thing?" She really has no idea.

"If we're going to heat water, it should be for coffee, but that's probably just my stomach talking," Clint said, smirking and stroking a hand over Lexi's back.

"Coffee's not food, honey," Kitty smiled.

"Okay," Verity said, speaking to her...valise? "There's a baby here. And what does that mean?"

A handful of mice poked their head above the edges of the valise, blinking down at Kitty and Lexi with bright, inkdrop eyes. "Ohhhhh," they said softly. "It is the beginning of the most Solemn and Introspective of Times, the Holy Sacrament of If You Wake This Baby, I Will Stab You In the Face."

"That's right," Verity said sternly. "Any time this baby is sleeping, it's quiet devotions and contemplations for the whole colony, understood."

"Of course, Priestess," one of the mice said, bowing deeply. "But when the child is awake?"

Verity sighed. "Then you can carry on as usual." The mice cheered.

"May we Observe the Child as well?" another mouse asked.

"Uhhh..." Verity said, "I'd have to ask," She looked at Kitty with a small shrug. "You mind if my mice come and, uhh, watch your baby...do baby stuff?"

Kitty blinked, and then instantly decided that she'd seen weirder.

"Uh, sure," she said. "She doesn't really do much yet, though."

She said that, but Lexi was going to be super into the mice should they be close enough to focus on.

"Fuck everything, I brought vodka," Eric announced, covered in snow and bearing booze.

"You are a hero and a gentleman," Steve declared.

"Best boss," Verity declared. Her mice took that as an excuse to cheer, too, but when didn't they?

"Those assholes broke our generator," Eric bitched.

"Left it in my other suit," Tony said, shamelessly using Steve as a space heater via cuddling. Anyone who had complaints could suck it.

"Well, that was very unhelpful," Steve said, grinning and cuddling closer. "How was your day?"

"A snowman destroyed my generator. And my backup generator. And the backup to the backup."

He wasn't have a good day at all.

"I have coffee," Hannibal offered.

Hey, he had his fancy machine and fire, and there was plenty of water by way of snow.

"Also, I'm making stew, but it isn't ready yet."

"I'll let the others go first on the stew," Steve said. "I tend to eat too much."

"Start with the coffee, then?" Hannibal asked. He nodded toward the thermal carafe he'd set up. "We have pounds of that, and water and fire to spare."

Verity was visibly frustrated by the time she got to the community center, lugging an entire Barbie Dreamhouse with her. Not an inch of the original pink plastic remained visible; it was all painted over with gunmetal gray nail polish, with colorful banners hanging from windows and tiny Christmas decorations hung up inside.

The residents of that monstrosity were riding along in a valise carefully shut and locked against the wind. But Verity wasn't taking any chances with her mice, and they had refused to leave the Barbie Dreamhouse behind and so here she was after a long trudge fighting wind, snow, and snowmonsters.

None of whom were impressed by bladed weapons, dammit. Or bullets. Or holy water.

Hannibal raised an eyebrow at the...miniature castle? But he assumed if somebody had brought it here through all that snow, it was important for one reason or another. And he was curious what that reason might be, so - "Would you like a hand with that?"

"Please," Verity said, more than willing to let him take a corner of it and help her carry it near to the fire. It was almost as big as she was; without her heels Verity was actually a petite 5'2, instead of the 5'8 she normally stood at. And with the Barbie Dreamhouse clocking in at an impressive three feet tall...

Yeah, it was a little awkward.

"Little tyrants better be grateful," she muttered as they finished settling it into position.
