Kanan's Warehouse, Friday Afternoon

It was Friday, where else would Kanan be but here in his warehouse again, giving a speculative look around at the decorations that were still strewn about in the wake of Christmas.

... Well, the holiday had come and gone, and while he had come in here in order to do some training, he figured it probably wouldn't hurt if he took some time to at least unwrap the crates and pull down some of the garland.

Not to mention the glitter drifts that were still spread out across the floor.

The lights and the painting of his dog in the Christmas hat, though? That could stay. Kanan had no problems with better illumination in here, or of Stance's big dumb face staring down at him while he trained.

"That happens everywhere," Kaidan said quietly, "Not just with your Order. I'm dealing with some of that crap back home. At least your Order was trying to do right by them."

Maybe not as emotionally fulfilling as Kaidan would have wanted for them, but Caleb had been well cared for. That had helped, seeing him that weekend.

Kaidan stopped what he was doing and turned sharply on a heel. He reached out and clasped Kanan's shoulder to head that crap right off. "Hey. I wasn't a kid, remember? Caleb was a little too serious for his age but it was obvious he was well cared for. I would've known the difference, if he hadn't been. He was trusting and confident even with all the weird going on around him. You don't get that from a bad environment, Kanan."

"Trying is the important part," Kaidan said quietly, "You're moving forward. You'll make mistakes, you'll fuck it up sometimes. Everyone does. You'll get there. Part of why is because of the beginning you had. You can't build something on sand. Not something that'll last, anyway. You know that, too."
