Jughead had definitely been at work over the last two months omg was hard at work today. Kind of. Mostly he was standing behind the counter and watching Apu put the finishing touches on a display of some of the hottest food items they were selling in the store, while sometimes jotting down things on a notepad he had on the counter because he was also working on an essay of sorts about -- well, a lot of things. Fandom, maybe?

Anyway.

He was also mostly ignoring the little award statuette - you know, one of those miniature fake Oscar type things - that said VALUED TEAMMATE on it, except TEAM had been crossed out in Sharpie with TEEN written on top of it instead. Apu had given it to Jughead when he'd come in to work today. He had not asked why.

He'd just put it down on the counter, next to the cash register. Whether he was taking it back to the dorms with him at the end of the day was anyone's guess.

Astrid had come in for a few things that probably could have waited until Friday, when she was here for her own shift, but other than dance class, she didn't have anything else going on, and she could use a new sketchbook, anyway. Sketchbook, some pencils, a bag of colorful pinwheels that kept catching her eye on a sad little out-of-season shelf toward the back of the store, a few snacks, and she brought them to the counter, where she dropped them all off and then squinted when she noticed the little statuette there by the register.

"I didn't get a statue," she noted.

Astrid, you were working here based on what was pretty much community service for something that landed you in jail for a night. You didn't deserve that statue.

"Uh, well, you can have mine," Jughead replied as he began ringing up her items. He shook his head, then side-eyed Apu. "I have zero idea why he gave it to me."

He paused for a beat which was coincidentally long enough for him to glance at the statuette.

"Or if he realizes that 'teen mate' sounds kinda sketchy."

"....yeah," Astrid agreed after a pause, "that doesn't exactly seem like the best choice on his part. But you can keep it. I'd hate to deprive you of what I'm sure is a very well-earned and well-deserved honor."

Jughead's chuckle was rough and a little off somehow, like he wasn't used to laughing or something. Sort of. Half took him by surprise.

"Yeah, thanks," he said. "Apparently I'm valued for mashing some buttons on the cash register once a week. Better put that in my bio if I ever get published."
