Luke's Diner, Saturday
Miguel had resorted to swinging on webs to work today, and it still took him longer than usual. Fortunately, his strength meant he could still open the door; he left it open about an inch in case anyone else had the same problem and not the same solution.
He arrived to see this latest bout of island whimsy had also hit the cook and the busboy, but not the dishwasher - the rather harried dishwasher had the cook on his shoulder, talking him through making the orders.
Miguel just waved and went to get a cup of coffee. Maybe he'd bathe in it.
Today's specials:
Dim sum
Tapas
Basically small plates of everything
Luke's was open!
Please don't step on the busboy; he's doing his best.

"Hello?"
She looked around for a table for herself and Fjord, whom she hoped was his usual size. It would be a bit awkward otherwise.

Fjord was here, and was sighing a little to himself. It had been one hell of a hike to this place from the hotel, and don't even ask how he'd gotten down to the main floor from his room in the first place. At least he was more or less clothed, wearing a pair of loose trousers and a loose button-down shirt that he'd worn to bed the night before, or this would have been a very interesting dinner, wouldn't it have.
"Hey!"
Yes, he was pretty much bellowing that up at her from where he was standing, on the floor out of the way of foot traffic, his arms crossed over his chest.
"Down here!"
no subject
"Oh, fuck," she muttered, then looked around until she saw him.
"Hey," she called back. "Are you ok?"
Maybe the wrong question.
I mean..." she made a gesture. "... apart from being small."
no subject
"Apart from being small... well enough," Fjord agreed, looking relieved to have been spotted, at least. If minorly annoyed about the situation entirely. "On the plus side, I'll probably be a cheap date today."
... Not 'date' date. Just date, person you have plans with, Seivarden.
no subject
She looked at Fjord. And then the table.
"You need to get up on the table."
Offering to lift Fjord might be a little awkward.
no subject
Fjord stood there on the floor, arms still crossed over his chest, and just raised an eyebrow.
"I'll get right on that," he drawled. And then shook his head a little. "Just as soon as they install a ladder."
Honestly, how did she expect him to get up there? Just climb the table leg like a bear?
no subject
She crouched down next to Fjord and held out a gloved hand.
no subject
"Might be easiest," Fjord allowed, eyeing that hand for a moment before, with a sigh, shrugging and stepping up into her palm. "Fucking weird, though."
All of this? Was fucking weird.
no subject
"Fucking weird," she agreed.
Fucking annoying too. This wasn't how she had planned this. While Fjord had been clear about not being interested, she could at least enjoy the view, which wasn't the same when someone was tiny.
no subject
And Fjord... stepped off her hand onto the table, and then, after a moment of consideration, reached for a napkin and folded it a few times, making himself a cushion to sit on.
"At least the conversation should still be good?"
He was going to be smaller than most of the food offerings.
no subject
She hoped he was right, or this would end up being both awkward and boring. Taking a seat opposite Fjord, she continued:
"So what would you like to eat?"
A moment later: "I can cut it into small pieces for you."
no subject
no subject
She felt she should be used to things like this by now, but no, this was definitely very awkward.
"So, how has your day been?"
He really had tiny claws today.
no subject
He kind of had tiny everything today.
"Well, woke up to an elf throwing things around the room," Fjord replied, rolling his eyes and settling into his napkin seat. "Which has more or less set the tone for the rest of the day."
no subject
Tiny Fjord was sort of cute, in that tiny kind of way, but not quite the view Seivarden had hoped for.
"I suppose it would have been bad if I had woken up your size and had to face Issa."
no subject
Fjord gave a little (very little) laugh at that. Really, it would have been worse if he had to face Issa, all things considered.
"Well, then it's fortunate it didn't come to that," he replied. "Though it definitely wouldn't have been a boring morning. You might've been a little late for dinner."
no subject
Seivarden found herself smiling. Yes, Fjord was rather cute, even if it wasn't in the way she preferred.
no subject
no subject
"Sounds creative."
no subject
Even if he'd hit Fjord with a bible.
no subject
The busboy appeared at the table, being of normal size.
"Dim Sum for me, soup for my friend and tea for us both."
"Proper tea," she added.

She turned to Fjord again. "I hadn't expected a diner to be the place to go to for tea."
no subject
"This island is full of surprises, I suppose," Fjord replied. "Of all kinds."
Case in point, the pocket-sized half-orc.
no subject
"So, what have been the worst surprise so far?" Seivarden asked.
no subject
That was an excellent question, wasn't it?
"Could've gone without being a child again," Fjord decided on. "I put a lot of hard work into making it to this point, I want to think I earned the right to stay an adult, too."
no subject
"But I apologize, that was a depressing subject."
She paused, trying to think of something else, and was saved by tea.
"Oh, look," she said, relieved as the pot was placed in front of them
no subject
Given the fact that it was bigger than Fjord currently was, the pot really was difficult to miss. He glanced up at it, smiled wryly, and nodded his approval of the... distraction, mostly.
"I can honestly say I've never seen that much tea in one place in my life."
no subject
Seivarden looked at the tiny bowl placed next to her own cup. It was still more the size of a big fruit bowl for Fjord.
She tried to pour the for both of them, mostly successfully.
no subject
And Fjord... was now going to be drinking tea for the rest of the day, he was pretty sure.
"Thank you," he said, reaching for... the dish.
no subject
"This is good. In a nice everyday way."
She looked at Fjord.
"How are you doing?"
no subject
"All things considered? I can't complain," Fjord replied. "I'd be more worried if I didn't think this would wear off before long, but as things stand? This is fine."
no subject
Or Fjord could listen to Fenris.
no subject
Yeah, Fjord was remembering what Fenris had said that morning as it was.
"The tea's fine," he promised. "I'll just have to drink it fast. It's liable to get cold faster this way."
no subject
Although that was just an assumption. Seivarden knew nothing of half-orcs really.
no subject
no subject
It would be awkward. Seivarden was making an effort.
no subject
... And then pray he didn't fall down the gap in the door, down the elevator shaft.

Seivarden assumed Miguel was joking. Then again...
"You are joking, right?"
no subject
no subject
She normally wouldn't offer, but she didn't want Miguel to pour boiling water over himself.

Miguel jumped and swung back to the counter, then on into the kitchen to get the tea. A few minutes later, he swung back with the box in his free hand and set it on the counter.
He webbed the handle of a teapot from under the counter and pulled it up, then climbed up the side of the box and reached in to get the little pyramids, sliced them open with his talons, climbed up the pot, hauled up the bags, and dumped them in.
Then he grabbed the handle of the pot, dragged it over to the hot-water dispenser, and jumped up to stand on the handle. He had to jump on it a few times to get it down far enough for the water to come out, then he just webbed it down, waited until the pot was almost full, and sliced the webs.
"Tea!" he announced.
...Okay, Seivarden, you could come and get it yourself. Dragging the thing once it was full might not happen without spilling.
no subject
"Thank you," she said, walking over to get the teapot.
no subject
Hey, super strength came in handy when you were this size; who knew?
no subject
"I'm good for now. Let's see if Fjord shows up."
no subject
"Okay; let me know if you change your mind."
