Caritas- Tuesday

Tino has brought cupcakes in to work today. Just because. It was a nice gesture, and Kitty didn't trust it at all.

She didn't trust it so much that she didn't even feel bad that she made an excuse for why she couldn't have them, though then he put them out for customers. Soooooo, let's see if she could warm them off!

"Cupcakes, huh?"

... Sorry, Kitty. Kanan was already reaching for one. Because Kanan was a trash human who ran on sugar and regret, these days.

"Tino brought them," Kitty said quickly, hoping to save him.

Aaand that was Kanan's hand jerking away from those cupcakes as though he had been burned.

"... Why did Tino bring cupcakes?"

Why did Tino have to taint such a perfect creation?

"Just because."

Yeah.

YEAH.

"Well, that's terrifying," Kanan replied, blinking. "That's... where the hell did he get them?"

Kanan, cupcakes were not exactly contraband.

"I think- think- they might be homemade," Kitty said.

And now Kanan was eyeing them as though he was expecting them to come to life and attack.

"... I feel like we should be taking them out back and detonating them just to be safe."

Rosa still possessed a very healthy skepticism about random food around this place, which is why, when she reached her usual spot at the bat, she was going to look at those cupcakes doubtfully and quirk a brow at Kitty.

"You've been baking?" she asked, since this was the only explanation she would accept if she was having any.

"I haven't, but Tino maybe has?" It was unclear.

Ugh! And that was the worst possible outcome!

"Then why aren't they in the trash?"

"Because maybe someone will want them?" She was trying to be nice to an employee here!

Ew. Why?

"If anyone does," said Rosa, "you let me know who, so I can punch them."

She didn't actually expect Kitty to tell her, of course, because Kitty. But she felt it at least needed to be said.

Kitty sighed. "Kanan actually thought I should alert you guys to put those people on a watch list."

"See?" said Rosa, looking somewhat victorious. "Kanan's not an idiot." Which was pretty high praise, coming from her, really. "And he hates those guys even more than I do. So you know we're onto something if we're both saying it."

Watch list. Punch list. Kind of the same thing, right? Close enough for her!

When Éponine showed up after work, she had a large bag of corn chips that she put on the bar with an air of 'please for the love of god take them.'

"Why," she asked, being naturally suspicious, "are there cupcakes?"

"Tino," she answered. "Why are there corn chips?"

"The post office," Éponine said, "because I suppose it got bored of butterflies or bubbles or what have you. I don't ask, really I don't, so long's I don't have to pay for my lunch."

She was really over corn chips by this point in the evening, though.

"Why did Tino bring cupcakes?" Because she wasn't about to have them.

"Just because." Yep. "So if anyone wants to take them...."

They'd be taking their lives into their own ha damn.

"Thank you, but I think no," Éponine said firmly. Which, considering her eating standards in the past, was saying something. "That's just dodgy, that is."

"It's a good call," Kitty aid, lowering her voice a little. "I don't want to hurt his feelings but I don't want to kill my friends."

"I'm sure we all appreciate that," Éponine said in a matching low tone. "Well, they can sit there and look pretty then, like a centerpiece or one of those fancy ice sculptures."

It was a day of the week, so complete monster Deandra Reynolds figured it was as good a day as any to get her drink on.

"Hey, Kitty. Oooh! Did someone bring cupcakes?"

"Tino brought them," Kitty said, figuring she'd know by now that that simple sentence served as a warning. Yep

Nope. Didn't you know? Tino was practically Sweet Dee's best friend on the island right now.

It was...not a high bar to reach.

"Well, that was nice of him!" she remarked, sending a proud little beam across the bar toward him, which he very pointedly ignored. She seemed incredibly amused by this (oh, him!), and she reached for one of the cupcakes. "That Tino. So thoughtful. Is it a special occasion?"

"It's just because, apparently," Kitty said, a little horrified and not knowing if she could outright stop this from happening. "Sometimes he just does stuff. For some strange reason."
