Caritas, Sunday
Well, it looked like it was one of those weekends.
Atton walked past the zombies and tossed his jacket onto the counter. "Right," he said. "Someone get me the specials board."

"Make my night. Tell me Tino forgot who he is and he's not here."
Hi Atton.

She frowned at the unfamiliar word. "The fuck's kolto?"
She was about to be unhappy.

Jack wasn't going to ask if he was ok. If he was here, Atton thought he was ok. A weekend just sounded like a long time for that. Medigel took minutes.

"Scars are hot," was all she said about it. "Do you want to thrill me with tales of your dashing heroism or is this the kind of shit not worth the story?"
She actually meant that dashing heroism part. You didn't catch shrapnel from hiding.

"Eh, you know how it goes," he said. "One week it's getting kicked in the head, another week it's people throwing explosives at you."
He snagged a champagne flute and poured in a healthy helping of prosecco.

"And then you wreck the shit out of them so they can't do it again," Jack agreed. Paused. "Unless this was another diplomatic thing where you had to play nice. That shit sounds boring as hell. Bet you're glad to be back here."

Jack watched him do his bartender thing for a minute and changed the subject. "You used to teach here, right? What are these fucking field trips like? Am I going to be as bored as I think I am?"

Jack had obviously never been on a field trip with this school. It was possibly good there was not much hope for dragons. She would Hagrid all over one.
"Ah well, fuck it. Maybe one of the volcanic things'll be active. There are worse things in the fucking world than a week of leisure and good hotels." She said, morosely, verbally reminding herself.

Might've sounded like she was kidding.
Might have.

Or, you know, he didn't want to run the risk of Sia hearing radio and getting hurt. But he didn't think he and Jack were on 'so I'm a colossal screw-up who wrecked the best thing that could've happened to me because I'm too messed up to deal with the idea' sharing terms yet.
... but that wasn't something she should take personally, as he wasn't on those kinds of sharing terms with anybody and had no plans to be.

Which, technically.. Nevermind.
"Eh. Getting shot at is probably more fun," Jack allowed. "I'll figure it out. I'd have sat it out but some of my kids are going." It also sounded like it might be fun but that wasn't getting mentioned.
Maybe if she pointed out to Kaidan that he was making her go to a different entire country without any sort of backup. Hm.

Did you still count as a serial killer if you stopped serial killing?

Which was why she was going. She wasn't sure the school took little things like that into account and she was a walking human skin filled with trust issues. Jack was going and god help the first person to say a single fucking negative thing to any of her kids.
It probably only stopped counting when you stopped being willing to be a serial killer. Jack hadn't quite reached that point. If the choice was dealing with a heartbroken, bigot-damaged student or cheerfully killing some bigot asshole who couldn't keep their damn mouth shut?
Not a choice.
Which, she tried not to grimace, is why she was going to have to bring the big dumb squish asshole after all.
