Caritas- Tuesday

It always took a couple days to adjust to the time change, and that was before there was a tiny person who wasn't fantastic about sleeping through the night.

Kitty has a very large coffee with her at the bar today. Tiny seemed to be timing how fast she drank it, and the only reason she wasn't chugging it was to throw him off.

[Im so tired. Help me.]

Yeah. Rosa probably didn't need the large coffee to get a good idea of what was up, but it definitely helped confirm it for her. So then it was just a matter of figuring out how to comment on it in the way that was less likely to get something thrown at her.

She could, of course, just not comment on it at all, but what fun was that?

"Daylight savings, huh?"

"Just why?"

That was a yes.

It sure was.

"That's a good question," Rosa allowed, and tried to make the smirk that slipped seem at least a little sympathetic. "I take it the kid's not intergrating it into her schedule very well?"

"It could be worse," Kitty allowed. "She's just used to a schedule and I'm pretty sure I did something wrong somewhere there and I need to figure it out before falling back."

"It's not that you did something wrong," Rosa countered. "It's just that she's a baby who doesn't even know what schedules are, and daylight savings time is dumb. Arlo 2 has me out tripping over squirrels in the dark for our morning run right now because god forbid she waits an hour to go out."

Usually, Rosa would draw a hard line against negotiating with such terrorism, but Arlo 2 had that dumb, stupid face...

"An hour can be a long time when you're confused and adorable," Kitty said.

It had been entirely too long since Kanan had swung by here on a Tuesday to pester his favorite bartender. And so...

"Evening, Kitty," he greeted with a grin. And then paused. And then frowned faintly. "If you need me to go on a coffee run once that one's finished, just say the word."

"Is it that obvious?" she asked.

...It kinda was, yeah.

Kanan gave Kitty an apologetic smile and held up his forefinger and thumb, about an inch apart.

Little bit. Yup.

"Is the little one not letting you sleep?"

[throughaphase]

"She still wakes up a couple times a night, and on top of the whole time cha he thing I kind of don't appreciate it," she admitted. "This-"

She took a very large sip of coffee. Probably not really a sip at that point.

"Any offers to babysit so you can hit up a spa and nap during a massage or whatever still stand," Kanan noted, smiling crookedly. "Looks like you've earned it."

[throughaphase]

"If I'm still tired tomorrow I will absolutely throw my baby at you," she promised. "Less spa, more cuddling up with one or two dogs."

[uncertain_dume]

"That also works," Kanan agreed easily. "And here you don't even have to worry about polar bears."

... That wasn't actually so much a concern in Iceland either, Kanan. The island possibly had more of them, actually.

"It's Fandom, I should probably always worry about polar bears," she pointed out.

[uncertain_dume]

"Just stay out of the freezer at the diner, you'll be fine until December," Kanan offered, smiling faintly.

[throughaphase]

"Like a freezer or polar bear could hold me, anyway," she smiled. "So. How've you been?"

[uncertain_dume]

"All in all? Can't complain," Kanan offered. "Even the setbacks haven't been disastrous, that's a nice change of pace."

He hadn't so much as scratched the paint in that less than stellar landing in the tree.

[throughaphase]

"Not so happy about the setbacks, but the rest is good," Kitty said encouragingly.

[uncertain_dume]

"Yeah, and if the worst that happens is that I end up taking unexpected Portalocity detours when I'm going on supply runs..." Kanan shrugged. "Not that I want to jinx it."

[throughaphase]

"Anywhere good?" Kitty wondered. "I always end up on a layover somewhere weird."

[uncertain_dume]

Kanan's eyebrows raised.

"The Forest of Feelings, in the Kingdom of Caring," he offered. And then paused. "More accurately, in a tree in the Forest of Feelings, in the Kingdom of Caring."

[throughaphase]

"Oh, that sounds fun."

She was totally not smiling.

[uncertain_dume]

"A monkey tried to steal my ship," Kanan deadpanned.

[throughaphase]

"That's terrible," she said, totally not giggling.

[uncertain_dume]

"A lion poked me in the stomach," Kanan lamented.

Really, he was trying not to smile at this point, himself.

[throughaphase]

And that was Kitty just laughing. Sorry not sorry!

"I get the impression that maybe you're not finding this actually so terrible," Kanan noted, smiling.

Yeah, yeah. It was funny.

You know. In hindsight, when the monkey wasn't trying to drop his ship on top of him.

[throughaphase]

"I'm sorry, it sounds terrible," she said, wiping at an eye.

[uncertain_dume]

"Admittedly, it was less funny in the moment," Kanan replied. "If my ship had gone into free-fall, I'd still be there, most likely."

[throughaphase]

"That really would suck," she said, more seriously. "And imagine Hera having to get that call to come get you."

[uncertain_dume]

"I can picture me calling now. 'Hera, how are you with monkeys?'"

Because really. That damn monkey.

[throughaphase]

"Having to explain that she can find you in a kingdom of caring..."

She was determined not to laugh again.

[uncertain_dume]

"But she'll have to navigate a forest of feelings?"

At this rate, Kanan was gonna do some laughing, himself.

[throughaphase]

"It sounds like a come on that's also a prank," she said.

[uncertain_dume]

"Aaaand that's why I'm thankful I didn't have to call for a rescue in the Forest of Feelings," Kanan confessed. "My feelings are weird enough to navigate even without throwing an actual, literal forest into the mix."

And then he probably would have had to take romance advice from, like, an elephant or something.

[throughaphase]

"Well, it's not like the cutest acts like truth day here, right? So 'come find me in the forest of feelings' is really more of a metaphor in that case," Kitty reasoned.

[uncertain_dume]

"... Fair enough," Kanan allowed. And then paused. "If I ever give a line like that to Hera, I fully expect her to slug me for it, though."

In fact, he kind of hoped she did. That was awful.

[throughaphase]

"She'd be right to. And that's even before any monkeys get involved."

Not smiling! Totally not!

[uncertain_dume]

"The monkey's name was 'Playful Heart,'" Kanan offered.

Because really, that just made it worse, somehow.

[throughaphase]

"You're making this up," she said.

[uncertain_dume]

"The lion's name was Brave Heart," Kanan added, smirking. "I can't make this up, Kitty."

[throughaphase]

""I mean, you e gotta be pretty brave to poke a total stranger like that."

Yeah, she was done.

... Please hold, Kitty. Kanan needed to just...

Just crack up for a minute.

Yup.

[throughaphase]

"I'm so glad you came n today," Kitty said, getting a napkin to try and save her eyeliner.

[uncertain_dume]

"I never regret making the time," Kanan replied, smiling crookedly and ducking his head. "Helps me navigate this forest of feelings I live with."

[throughaphase]

"It's okay," she said, failing at a straight face, "you can consider this bar a kingdom of caring."

[uncertain_dume]

And here in this bar, people were inclined to Care-a-lot?

Shame Kanan hadn't heard of that place, it would've been great.

"Next time," he laughed, shaking his head, "I'm going to bring you on a supply run, Kitty. Just you wait."
