Luke's, Sunday

Kanan showed up at Luke's today and settled behind the counter, as usual. Put on a pot of coffee, as usual.

Blinked for all of a half a second and looked up to see the rest of the staff decked out in fantasy-style adventuring garb.

That part was unusual.

"I have no idea what that even means."

[OOC: I blinked and my family had assembled for a D&D session I hadn't prepped for, I blinked again as soon as I got my DM materials ready and they wandered off. Idek today. Open.]

"Well," said Summer, as she, surprise surprise, came in on her lunch break and had a seat at her usual spot with a glance toward the specials board, "I know you know I'm going to have to ask...."

"I'm pretty sure they're just regular pancakes, but when you order them the cook puts on a pointed hat and a cape and pretends he's casting magic spells," Kanan offered.

So...

Possibly worth it?

"Yeaaaahhhh," said Summer, slowly, as she considered that potential explanation with narrow-eyes suspicion, "no, I think I'm gonna have to pass on that one. I'm pretty sure that, around here, even just pretending to cast spells over food is just sending an invitation I have no desire of accepting. It's already been a rough two weeks," oh, just you wait, Summer. Just. You. Wait, "so just normal, boring, non-adventure pancakes for me, I think. But with chocolate chips. Aaaand...."

She thought for a second.

"...a raspberry milkshake, I think. Yeah, raspberry sounds good today."

"Chocolate chip non-adventure-pancakes and a raspberry milkshake sounds like a pretty solid combination," Kanan mused. "Sure, we'll go with that. And how's the week been treating you since the whole," he waved a hand around. You know. To illustrate last weekend in some vague, non-language sort of way. "Thing?"

He was still finding weird notes and copied spell recipes around the warehouse.

"Well," said Summer, "I think Pancakes has forgiven me, for the most part, but I'm sure the peace is only going to last until when she figures out how to use a can opener herself. I sort of sent the vet off on her own spa day today, too, for having to deal with two weeks of me and the boys subsequently being either not here, animals, or just plain crazy, and I know I'm losing at least one of my T&C kids, so that's kind of a bummer, but maybe someone coming in for the summer'll want work. And I'm sure there's going to be something with graduation around the corner; there's no way I'm going to believe those scorpions that attacks last year can be, like, considered an isolated event. But other than that, I'm honestly just looking forward to things, you know, settling a little."

There was a faint pause.

"And then getting to complain about being bored because of it."

It was the circle of life.

Kanan broke into a little laugh at that, yes. He wasn't going to say, but yeah. With stability came boredom. He knew that one all too well himself.

"You know that even if things settle, they're never going to stay that way," he mused. "Really, 'settle' is something the island only does in order to lull us all into a false sense of security. But I'm sure we can find something to keep you from getting too bored in the meantime."

"Yeah," Summer snorted, "in the meantime, between my two businesses and the third I'm trying to start and probably teaching again, too. Plus I know I've still got a ship to clean one of these days. What am I going to do with all that time?"

"Train Pancakes for reconnaissance detail," Kanan suggested, smirking.

He was completely full of it, but hey, it was a suggestion.

"No way," said Summer, shaking her head. "That cat's already way too smart without any additional help from me; teach her something like that, she'll wind up trying to take over the whole world."

And Summer had had pets take over the world before; she was speaking from a place of experience with this one, one that made her wonder why she ever bothered with pets at all.

Of course, she could also argue she hadn't really had a choice in the matter, too.

"Buuuuut," she added, "while we're on the topic of Pancakes and possible reconnaissance, there waaaas something I've been thiiinking about asssking youuuu..."

And, surely, he could tell already it was going to be one helluva doozy, what with all the hesitation and extra vowels it required.

Sabine had not planned on stopping in.

Yet here she was, gesturing silently, confusedly, at the specials board.

And Kanan was spreading his hands in a, 'your guess is as good as mine' gesture.

"... I think it involves costumes," he offered.

"On who?" she checked.

[uncertain_dume]

"The rest of the staff," Kanan offered. And paused. And shrugged. "I think. Nobody's ordered them yet."

Because people had a sense of self-prservation.

Sabine paused.

And opened her mouth, then closed it again.

And then said, "I think we both know what I have to do here."

"... Restrain the kitchen staff for the good of us all?"

Look, Kanan could exercise wishful thinking if he wanted to.

"I have to order the adventure pancakes."

She had to know.

Had to.

"You're braver than me," Kanan mused. "You want something to drink with that, or are you holding out to see if you're going to need both hands just to survive the pancakes?"

[biotic_psychotic]

"Why the fuck is this town so boring on Saturdays?" Jack complained as she plopped her ass on a stool at the diner, "Whole highschool full of students, none of them raise hell on the weekends at all? What the shit is wrong with them? Coffee me, please, Kanan. If you happen to drop the contents of a bottle of brandy into it, I'll not complain."

Kanan was absolutely the wrong person to ask for that but she was mostly just complaining.

"They're good kids," Kanan replied, shrugging and pouring her a coffee. Funny enough, he was out of brandy. "They were probably all meditating or reading or something, I bet."

[biotic_psychotic]

"Yeah cuz that shit's fun," Jack drawled with an epic eyeroll. "I swear to god I'm gonna throw a rave or some shit one of these weekends in one of the warehouses. Just to see what would happen."

She collected that coffee like the addict she was and immediately took a sip, burning her tongue.

"Polite conversation and probably some pizza eating," Kanan mused. "Hell, you can even use my warehouse for it."

Really. He'd met these kids.

Jack gave him a positively evil grin. "You sure about that?"

Really, Kanan? Were you? Did you perchance remember the glitter?

Hey, he could live with glitter! It gave him something to levitate while meditating, besides crates!

"... Pretty sure."

Dubious, now.

[biotic_psychotic]

Jack sipped her coffee and raised her eyebrows at him. "Alright then. At least I know yours has electricity running to it. Gotta have something for the sound system."

"I already have regrets."
