Luke's, Sunday

Kanan showed up at Luke's today and settled behind the counter, as usual. Put on a pot of coffee, as usual.

Blinked for all of a half a second and looked up to see the rest of the staff decked out in fantasy-style adventuring garb.

That part was unusual.

"I have no idea what that even means."

[OOC: I blinked and my family had assembled for a D&D session I hadn't prepped for, I blinked again as soon as I got my DM materials ready and they wandered off. Idek today. Open.]

"I have to order the adventure pancakes."

She had to know.

"You're braver than me," Kanan mused. "You want something to drink with that, or are you holding out to see if you're going to need both hands just to survive the pancakes?"

"Oh, I've got this," Sabine assured him. "Chocolate milkshake."

It probably would not be that bad?

[uncertain_dume]

"Chocolate milkshake and adventure pancakes," Kanan recited, and then relayed the order back to the kitchen.

The response was loud and immediate, and might have included the words, "Okay, saddle up the polar bear!"

Kanan's eyes went wide.

"Wait, what? Whoa, guys!"

"'Polar bear' is metaphorical, right?" Because she couldn't have heard that right otherwise.

[uncertain_dume]

"There's at least one living in the freezer," Kanan intoned, rounding the corner and pushing his way into the kitchen. "Put that back where it came from, or so help me--"

"Can I get a lesser tier of action?" Sabine wondered.

[uncertain_dume]

"Level one adventurer," the cook called. "We've got a first level, here!"

"Someone catch that chicken!"

Kanan was burying his face in his hand from the kitchen door.

"I'm letting this one go," Sabine warned. Somehow the chicken was better?

[uncertain_dume]

"We're going to have a chicken loose in the diner," Kanan lamented. "I let them put adventure pancakes on the specials board, and that means we're going to be assaulted by a chicken."

A beat.

"Where did they even get a chicken?"

"Don't ask me, I just got here," Sabine shrugged. "Will the chicken be wearing the costumes? Or the saddle?"

Kanan glanced back into the kitchen.

"... Huh. Neither."

But they did seem to be hitching it up to a tiny cart.

"...Interesting."

Now Sabine was just trying not to be impatient.

"Do adventure pancakes take longer to make?"

[uncertain_dume]

"Same amount of time," Kanan mused. "They just have to strap them in."

Why was this his life?

[seriesofbaddecisions]

Because Sabine had to be a brat sometimes, that's why.

"This is going to end in so many art projects."

[uncertain_dume]

"Or a mad chase for your weird Earth flatcakes," Kanan noted.

... And that was about the moment the chicken trotted out of the kitchen, pulling a little cart with Sabine's meal strapped into it.

"I'm really glad we didn't get the polar bear," Sabine said, because this was great and she didn't want to get eaten.

[uncertain_dume]

"Yeah, I have no idea how they managed to coerce that thing into participating in the first place."

A pause.

"I suspect it involves steak, somehow."

He watched as the chicken did a lap of the room, hauling that little cart behind it.

"I'm honestly not sure if I'm supposed to catch it, or if you are."

"As a Jedi, you'd have a much easier time," Sabine pointed out.

[uncertain_dume]

"Yeah, but this isn't supposed to be my adventure," Kanan protested.

Possibly because he wanted to see Sabine chase a chicken.

[seriesofbaddecisions]

"That should have been noted somewhere, then," she tried.

Because she wanted to see Kanan chase a chicken.

[uncertain_dume]

"I think the implication was there," Kanan countered.

Because he really didn't want to chase the chicken, Sabine.

"Ugh, fine," said the girl who had ordered the pancakes just to see what would happen, rolling her eyes.

She hopped off her stool, and made her way slowly towards it, saying, "Here, chicken. Heeeeeee, chicken..."

[uncertain_dume]

"Just think," Kanan called after her, grinning, "it could have been a polar bear."

Or whatever that tentacle monster living in the freezer along with it was!

"You're not funny," Sabine told him, making a little grab for the chicken.

It did not work.
