Luke's, Sunday
It was Sunday. Kanan needed caf. They didn't really have caf at Luke's, no, but if he brought his own bag in and snuck it into one of the coffee machines before hours, he could sure as hell brew some anyway.
And then empty the entire contents of the pot into an almost comically oversized mug.
And then clean the hell out of that pot so that nobody would suspect a thing. Even if most people who weren't from home seemed to be convinced that coffee and caf were basically indistinguishable. The monsters. He was so wrapped up in his whole Secret Caf venture that he'd barely noticed the cook setting up what looked like a whole spread of jams and jellies and compotes, sweet sauces and bowls of berries. Whipped cream...
"What the hell is this?"
Welcome to Luke's!
Sunday is Pancake Day!
Today Only: All You Can Eat At the Pancake Bar!
...
"Why don't we always have a pancake bar?"
Well. Kanan was now doomed.

"Okay, so," she started, "are you more of a toaster oven or blender kind of guy? Or should we be totally gauche about it and I'll just give you cash?"
Yes, her intention was aiming for oblique and rando. Have you met Summer?
no subject
Worst. Jedi.
no subject
"Duly noted," she said. "Sidenote: if I'm coming to your wedding as a plus-one, this friendship is officially cancelled."
no subject
You know, wedding attire.
no subject
"Actually, no," she amended after a beat, "I think I'm gunning for something in the exact shade of green Jack turns when she hears the word 'bridesmaid.'"
no subject
He'd kind of just figured they'd both be grooms, though he didn't know Cade well enough to assume, either.

And then she took those hands and clasped them together against her chest as her face got dreamy for a moment as she added, "But you could totally work a pretty veil and tiara, Beeg."
no subject
His lightsaber was both blue, and nothing new to him, anyway.

"Afternoon," she said as she stepped through the door, smiling at Kanan.

She nodded towards the sign. "That should tempt them more than plants."
no subject
He seemed pretty okay with that.
"Endless food does tend to grab people's attention, true enough. Speaking of, is there anything I can get for you today?"
no subject
At least she knew Kanan could make acceptable tea.
She took a seat at the counter.
"Talking dog?"
no subject
Since people had already been at it, and most customers didn't wear gloves.
"The talking dog wasn't a student, I don't think. He was here with one of the new kids, though."
... Did Del really count as a kid?
Eh.
no subject
A relief that Kanan understood that, at least.
"Are you teaching this summer, then?"
no subject
He didn't even really think about it anymore. This was how tea was made for this customer. He was getting paid enough to deal with 'fickle.'
"I tried to back out for a term, and I was pretty much corralled back in to teach regardless."

Whelp. He supposed he was going to clean out the coffee machine again after all.
While waiting to see if she noticed that it wasn't exactly coffee or not.
"Don't look now," he said, grinning her way, "there's a pancake bar today, Jack."
Kanan had already hit it up, too. He had a plate. It was heaped several inches high.
There was only one pancake.
So.

Jack, this is how you get stabbed with a fork. Don't take ickle's food.
After she'd taken a healthy drink of whatever was in the mug, she gave it a skeptical look. "... Are you drinking decaf?"
no subject
"What? No. It doesn't get much more un-decaf than that."
no subject
"It tastes weird," she said, still looking at it, "What happened to the coffee? Did you change brands?" Still, she took another drink.
no subject
"I don't know if I should say, 'yes, thank you,' for acknowledging that what you're drinking doesn't taste the same as the usual, or what," he admitted. "We didn't switch brands here. I brought that myself."
no subject
no subject
"That's about where I stood with coffee, at first," he admitted. "It's not bad. It'll take the place of caf in a crunch, but it's not quite right, either."
