Caritas; Wednesday [05/08].
So, this weekend, Summer was going ship-shopping, and even though she'd saved up a lot of money for that express purpose, a big purchase like that was gonna hurt. And then there'd be the cost of parts. The time to fix it up. The cost of maintenence. All while also saving money to actually pay for her retail space once she finally did get off to space to hawk jello on unsuspecting aliens for the benefit of reaping information to support a rebel uprising. Which was a way cooler context to put it in, really. She said she was going into space to sell jello, but if you got right down to it, she was totally going to space to be a goddamn spy, and that was badass.
But also expensive.
But, hey, she knew that the new bartender that had been working on Wednesday had totally crapped out, leaving an open space in employment at a job that would be supercool, although she really wasn't expecting she'd puck up a lot extra in tips on a freaking Wednesday. Still, bartender was going to look great on a resume (it worked great for AOC!), it would be a lot of fun, and she'd still get to work on some jello creations, only this time even better, because booze.
She was a pretty quick study on a lot of the deets, too, as Tino sort of showed her the basics and she got comfortable around the bar. And, not expecting a whole slew of people (although maybe? With the newbs on the island, they might want to check it out?), she spent about half of her time learning and the other half leaning on the bar a little and falling into a stimulant-related wormhole as she flipped through her holo-pedia.
New Wednesday Special: Jello Shots!
Today's Jello:
Pink Lemonade
Caritas is open! With a super-cute new bartender who can actually pour a beer!

"Oh fuck, it's you."
That was her reaction when she saw Summer.
And then:
"What the fuck is a jello shot?"
no subject
Damn right, it's her.
"It's jello," Summer offered, "infused with alcohol, and portioned out into little shot-sized bits. First one's on the house, if you want to try one. And these ones are great, too, because I just used the lemon to put them in, which means they're easier to consume and I won't have to worry about teaching you the trick with the tongue that you have to do when you use little plastic cups because...no. Just...no. I'd definitely be sending Tino over here for that."
Which would also be awful and gross, but still preferable. But hey! Look at her! Already assigning Tino to the grosser parts of the job, she was a goddamn natural at this bar thing.

"I'll have a beer. Draught if you know how to pour it."
no subject
Grooooooosssssssss.
Summer leveled a look at her. "What kind?" she asked. "Ale, lager, stout, IPA, wheat, Belgium, bock?"
But, yeah, sure, she wouldn't know how to pour it.
Sure, she just learned all of those today, but that was beside the point.
no subject
Seivarden didn't know what all those were, but if she had to choose she'd go with that.
"So, new job?"
She would finish the beer and then leave, she told herself.
no subject
"Which, by the way," she added, setting the ale down in front of Seivarden with a smirk and on a coaster, "I don't know if anyone's told you before, but it is pretty much the height of civilized in this society to tip your server very well."
no subject
Seivarden managed surprisingly well not to sound jealous.
"And here I thought tips were handed out according to the quality of service. Then again, civilized behaviour here can be so peculiar."
She had tipped both Kitty and Fjord really well.
no subject
Plus, Mama needed to get paaaaaaid.
no subject
She took a sip of said beer.
"Is this the best you can do?"
no subject
no subject
"Oh," she said, putting on an amused expression. "Where I'm from people really make an effort."
At least if the customer was a Vendaai.
"Surprise me."
In a way that might possibly get you a good tip, Summer.
no subject
"Awww," she said, sounding oh-so-sad about it and shaking her head, her look sympathetic, "so it's really too bad we're not where you're from, isn't it? And here I've gone and left my mind-reading helmet at home tonight. Maybe next time, yeah? Because there's no way I'm going to try to figure out what you want, only to have you turn around and be derisive and insulting just because I get it wrong. If you need anything, Seivarden, I'll be more than happy to help, trust me, but you're going to have to ask for it like a normal person.
"Hard, I know. But, if it makes you feel any better, maybe there's a red carpet out in the store room, and I can go roll that out for you or something?"
no subject
no subject
Yeah, fuck those tips.
How much could Seivarden possibly tip, anyway?
Probably though a dollar was, like, super generous.
Or, like, whatever change was in her pocket at the moment. Thanks for the pennies and lint, asshole.
no subject
"Not sure what that's supposed to mean," Seivarden said, smiling. "Did the squirrel leave you?"
no subject
Even if now Summer was just going to sort of blink at Seivarden. She opened her mouth to say something, stopped, tilted her head, sort of gawkwed at her for a moment and tried again.
"You....do realize what that sounds like, right?" she checked. "I mean, you do hear the words coming out of your mouth right now in relation to the context of the conversation we," she gestured a little between the two of them, "are having at this," she pointed with both fingers at the counter, "moment, right?"
Just checking. Because, from where Summer was sitting with this comparisson, it sort of sounded like a sad admission about Rosa leaving her.
no subject
She did get what Summer was getting at, though, and that she should have phrased things differently.
"What does it sound like?"
no subject
Which was probably true, sure, but Summer was ninety-nine percent sure that wasn't exactly something Seivarden wanted to be trotting out all over the place.
Which then made her think that it had been entirely subconscious, and there was some real interesting psychological shit going on with that one.
no subject
There was no 'me and Rosa'.
Seivarden gave Summer an unimpressed look. "You really like gossiping, don't you?"
no subject
"Uh, you started it?" she pointed out, laughed because how was this even a conversation right now?, and then shook her head.
"Also, super convincing, there, by the way, with that pause and the change of subject and the projection." She countered the unimpressed look with a sarcastically impressed one of her own, threw in an encouraging thumbs up. "Really top notch.. You know what? I'm going make a proposal to you, Seivarden, okay? Try to follow along as best you can, it might be a little complicated for you. But, I promise you, I will give you your drinks on the house tonight....within reason, of course...if you actually take a few moments before you say anything and actually self-reflect, even just a taaaaad, on what you're about to say before you actually say it. You might not actually be an insufferable dingbat if you pull it off."
no subject
"I'm sorry if what I said was confusing."
She didn't sound sorry.
"But what you just said made no sense."
no subject
Well, maybe a million.
...she'll get back to you on that one.
"But what part of what I said didn't make sense?"
no subject
She leaned against the bar, closer to Summer.
no subject
And because she felt Seivarden might need to help, added, "About you and Rosa. Or are you just so bad at non-sequiturs that when you try to use one, you actually just wind up saying something that actually relates more than you realize?"
no subject
Seivarden sighed.
"And for some reason you find this interesting."
Nosy gossip. She should just leave and finish the beer by a table, but then Summer would think she had won.
