Furnado Animal and Bomb Shelter; Friday [05/31].
Well, Prompto hadn't been wrong in thinking that Sidon would find the current state of the fish at the shelter (and the birds and several of the other animals) rather heartbreaking and sad, but he most certainly didn't blame himself because he knew his tank-cleaning skills were top-notch.
Besides, the whole place made him feel a little heartbroken and sad, and it wasn't even the sharp drop from having the island as basically his water-filled playground to barely even feeling like he could trust the water in his own tank. Everything felt so bleak and empty and sparse, and it reminded him of little pockets around Hyrule that had never quite recovered from the Calamity as much as some others had. It really made him wonder...was that what it was like? After the Champions failed to defeat Calamity Ganon and destruction ran rampant across the land? He had been so young back then--a mere twenty-five!--and sheltered closely in the protected arms of Zora's Domain, so he never witnessed it firsthand, only afterwards, when he was a little older, able to venture out on his own every now and again, after the rebuilding and recovery efforts had been in full swing.
And he tried not to think about whether or not Hyrule might look like this once again, should they fail to find a solution to finally destroy Calamity Ganon, once and for all.
They were rather heavy thoughts, the sort Sidon didn't usually like to carry around for too long, but even he found it was difficult to drop them where every turn around every corner made it vastly obvious and present. Still, there were animals to take care of, even if they looked like they'd been through an awful lot, and Sidon dedicated himself to doing the best he could to make their day a little brighter and happier, even under the circumstances.
Especially the fish. But he did have a bit of a bias that way.

Furnado is open!

With anchovies, of course.
"Knock knock," she called, bumping a shoulder against the door. "Paging a big strong Zora with free hands!"
no subject
The pizzas certainly didn't hurt, either, for that matter.
"Well, would you imagine the sheer serendipity of it," said Sidon, glancing over from where he was doing his best to keep one of the kittens from making the most out of him as food again, "there happens to be one of those here at this very moment!"
But not for long, as Sidon hurried over to take that burden off of Vette's hands as swiftly as he could and leave, in its place, a swooping kiss in greeting.
"To what do I owe this wonderful pleasure?"
no subject
"I thought today would be a nice day to make a little time," Vette replied, looking up at him with a silly little grin after that kiss was through. "Check up on my favorite Sidon, see how you're holding up, have a little lunch."
She couldn't imagine what it was he'd been living on since this week had started. His diet was significantly more strict than hers, after all.
"I think there's enough there," she mused, looking at the boxes. "For both of us."
It was a lot of pizza.
no subject
He'd made do, of course, and he would hardly be one to complain, but he'd even helped himself to a sandwich yesterday in philosophy class, so things were a bit rough, yes.
"How incredibly thoughtful of you, Vette," he said, grinning down at her with nothing but sheer, radiant admiration. "Thank you! Wherever did you manage to get them? Though I can't say I'm terribly surprised; it would naturally fall on you to become fantastically resourceful in such circumstances, wouldn't it? Come, let us take these over to the counter, so we might enjoy them comfortably."
With her sitting there on the counter and him leaning comfortably on it, putting them at an easy level of height and closeness.
no subject
She hiked a shoulder up a little, smiling brightly back up at him.
"I might be one of the few weird ones out, here, I'll admit. I don't mind it."
no subject
It was never a concern in any situation, and maybe, just maybe, some day, Vette wouldn't feel strange about that.
"It pleases me to hear that this current incarnation of our fair island hasn't caused you much concern, though," he said, his smile softened just slightly. "I must admit, this has not been one of my favorites."
no subject
It was pretty. Confusing, maybe. But pretty.
"But, yeah, this? I mean, there are a few things off about it, but it's practically homey." A pause for consideration. "Maybe a little more sunny than home." Another pause. "The air quality's better, too."
She wasn't kidding when she said Nar Shaddaa was probably not Sidon-friendly.
no subject
Still...
He ruminated about it a little over a (nearly completely distracting!) bite of pizza, before asking, "Has it helped to soothe some of your homesickness? I certainly hope it hasn't only served to make it worse..."
no subject
"I mean, it's not home," she noted, "but it's familiar enough that I'm actually kind of comfortable with it. The best thing about home is the people, always has been, but running around this place feeling like I'm in my element has been... nice."
She gave a soft laugh, ducking her head a little.
"Yeah, yeah, I know, leave it to Vette to be right at home in a place like this, right? But once you get over the fact that there's actual ground here and the landscape's a little prettier, a lot of the rules of surviving here are pretty much the same."
A pause.
"No Hutts here, either. That's definitely a point in it's favor."
no subject
--ahh, but no. No, he was...trying his very best not to think about that. It didn't do well for anyone to dwell on the past or the future, especially when the latter was so mercurial and uncertain. All the truly had was the present, and the ability to make the most out of that.
"That's no small thing, really," he continued, "especially in a place where so much manages to make very little sense to most people. And I suppose it's only really fair," here his grin brightened significally. "I did get to enjoy last week immensely! It would be incredibly selfish of me to begrudge anyone else getting a turn, least of all you, Vette. You deserve it."
And so, so much more in his opinion. But if she could be given even just a little taste of home...
...maybe she might not even be so eager to rush off to it for good once she could finally get back, but that was a thought he had that made him feel even more selfish and perhaps a little ashamed for having.
no subject
It felt... bad? Bad. It felt bad to be so happy to be somewhere that was so awful to so many others.
"Hey," she added, looking at him thoughtfully, "how are you doing, anyway?"
There had been a moment, there. The sadness had been hard to miss on a face that was so often so bright.
no subject
But he did have a unique way of making even a less than good truth seem not so bad.
"Feeling very grateful I at least had last week before this," he started with a faint chuckle. "I will admit, this one is a bit...difficult; it makes me think that....perhaps this was what it was like directly after the Calamity, but that...inspires hope, in a way, that makes it not so bad. After all, if Hyrule can build itself up to what it is today after something like that, then it could be possible for nearly anywhere. And it helps, now, I believe, to hear that this incarnation shares so much in common with Nar Shaddaa. I can use my experiences here now to better prepare myself for my eventual journey to the actual place. One can construct so many ideas from stories and details, but it may never truly be able to capture how a world really is."
no subject
She paused a long moment before adding, "Nina's been, already."
Not Vette, but Nina.
"I think she kind of... force-of-nature came at them until they gave in, the way she does, you know?"
no subject
And, with such a powerful surge, it was hard not to go cresting eagerly forward with ideas. "Shall we go now? I'm sure the vet can handle everything here while we go. Or would you need to prepare first? I'm certain that if they were able to allow Nina through, then there would be no reason why it wouldn't be the same for you! Perhaps we can borrow a little of Nina's stubborn force-of-nature as well, and we shall refuse to leave except by portal directly to Nar Shaddaa! Why, and it's Friday, too! We can make a weekend of it!"
And it did not escape him that if they were to go together, that significantly increased the likelihood of the fact that they would be returning together, too.
no subject
Vette gave a soft laugh at that.
"Not this weekend," she replied. "Today's Nina's birthday, and tomorrow I've, um," her cheeks might have flushed faintly purplish, yes, "I've got detention."
She maintained that it was totally worth it, though.
"But... next weekend, maybe? Or even on Sunday, or Saturday after detention? I don't even have classes until Tuesday, what does your week look like?"
no subject
"I do have a class on Monday, first period," he said, "but it is Cutthroat Games; I certainly wouldn't have a single qualm about missing that for something significantly more important, unless, of course, it should happen they decide to cover sabacc that day!"
He did still need to get on actually learning that! And wouldn't that just be his luck.
"But I can certainly head over and get started on warming them up to the idea on Saturday while you're at detention," he mused. "What is detention, anyway? I don't believe I know what that is, I'm afraid, nor was I aware that it is Nina's birthday today! How wonderful! She must be absolutely delighted! Is there anything special planned? If there isn't, perhaps we should collaborate on something, I can only imagine she would positively thrilled to have a special way to celebrate!"
no subject
Vette actually laughed a little at Sidon's enthusiasm, there. It was a happy sort of laugh, a fond one, the sort that came from a girl who sometimes still couldn't believe how lucky she was that of all the girls in the multiverse, Sidon liked her.
"We should totally collaborate on something," she decided. "I was thinking of maybe just stealing a common room for the occasion, since there's no guarantee anybody would be able to safely get to a party anywhere in town right now, you know? Maybe get a bunch of glitter. Try to find a cake? That might be a portal thing again, though..."
There was a pause, and then she added, "And detention is what happens when stuffy people have no appreciation for art."
That bus was beautiful.
no subject
it was super convenient OOChe can quite easily make a journey such as that to nearly any place, where it is a bit more of a...hassle for you and me. Oh, I believe that would be brilliant. You would, of course, have to distract her while we set it up, but that shouldn't be too difficult."His eager grin, brightened even more with the excitement of such a spontaneous plan that seemed to be coming together well enough, remained on his face even as he added an admission, "I still don't believe I understand what detention is with that description, though. You've created some art, Vette? That some stuffy person has failed to appreciate?"
This person must be very stuff indeed.
no subject
"We do share a room and all," Vette agreed, "I can distract her by putting a little candle on a cookie or something, and then... I don't know, maybe drag her to a common room saying we can't have cookies without milk?"
That wasn't actually a half-bad plan, come to think of it.
"So, we draft Prompto to go and get supplies, and I distract the birthday girl, and..." She considered. "Invitations? I guess I could just send a
handwaveytext out to everybody... That should get people there."So would just bringing pizza, admittedly.
"And oh, this art is not to be missed," Vette added. "We made the shuttle amazing, Sidon. A-ma-zing."
no subject
And...it was an excellent distraction as well, if he were honest.
"And, of course," he added, "now I simply must see this art! Did someone get pictures? Is it still on display somewhere?"
no subject
Vette bounced on her toes, grinned, and nodded enthusiastically.
"We'll get Prompto to show off the pictures at the party," she promised. "It's the best. Shame the Dean doesn't appreciate it."
For some reason.
"But it sounds like we have a plan! Common room! Cake! Surprises! That sounds like how birthdays should be!"
She was, uh, pretty sure, anyway.
no subject
"Excellent!" Sidon gushed, throwing in a "Marvelous!" too because it just seemed to warrant it. "We do, indeed, have a plan, and it's a spectacular one at that! I haven't the slightest doubt in my mind that she will absolutely adore it, as well. Well done, Vette! And I cannot wait to see the pictures! Even if the Dean doesn't appreciate them, I'm sure I shall!"
no subject
So. Great.
