Caritas, Wednesday Evening

So, last week had been... a thing, for sure. Kanan had kept his Wednesday free then in order to tend the bar for Summer for her birthday, but that had kind of fallen through. As things do when the birthday girl is turning into a violent monster and it's already bad enough that she's contemplating eating her cat.

This week seemed much better for it, even if the decorations left a little something to be desired in the color department. Kanan had still brought in a banner that said 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY' on it, and one of those cheap plastic tiaras with 'Birthday Girl' across the top in sparkly lettering, so he figured he had done his part, here. He'd set the banner up in the lounge area, and was holding on to the tiara for Summer's arrival.

Hell, he'd even gone out of his way to make certain the drink specials were on point.

Today's Drink Special:
Mystery Jello Shots! First Round Free For Partygoers!
Look, all I know is that they wiggle and have alcohol in them.

They weren't much, but hey, Kanan was still mostly just proud he'd figured out Jello.

Steve couldn't get drunk, but he did need to get out of the house after Patriot chewed up one of his sneakers (and not Tony's much nicer leather shoes. Uncool, Patriot).

"I didn't know you worked Wednesdays!" he said, smiling.

"You know, I actually don't? It's Summer's birthday. Or, well, last week was," and the less said about last week, the better, "and she asked me to cover for her."

Kanan grinned crookedly and shrugged.

"I can't complain. I actually enjoy tending bar anyway. How goes it, Steve?"

"Evening last time I checked," he confirmed. "To what do I owe the pleasure?"

Amaya knew it was good for her to get out every once in a while (especially in the middle of a new project like she was right now), and Summer was a friend, besides, and she'd gone through the trouble of making a birthday present for her, so it wouldn't make much sense to skip out on the birthday party aspect of it, too, now would it?

Plus, she always wound up with business at these get-togethers. A bit tricky, trying to balance a new job or two with the way things had been going this summer, but things were so wacky right now anyway, that she'd gladly take something new to focus on, and hoped maybe the trend kept up.

Carter had not been a monster last week, thank the goddess, but all the same, he was grateful that this week seemed to just be a curious lack of colour rather than anything more frightening.

He was still a little skittish, but he felt that Summer might be upset if he did not attend her party and, truly, she was so nice that he thought he'd be upset with himself if he didn't attend.

And even black and white, the decorations made him smile.

This person was someone Seivarden hadn't seen in the bar before, which meant he was one of the few people she didn't have a reason not to talk to.

"I suppose this is one of the better weeks for a party, so far," she said, raising her beer glass.

Seivarden might not consider herself friends with Summer, but for reasons best not talked about she preferred to try to get along with her. Besides, there would probably be something to drink that wasn't jello, would there?

Okay, truth be told, Liam wasn't feeling the most sociable at the moment, but he liked Summer well enough, he figured he ought to put in an appearance at her birthday party.

He was maybe hanging out a little off to the side of the group of people, but he was here.

Sssh, Kanan also brought a cake.

It might have a picture of a unicorn on it.

It might also have a hastily scraped-off bit of icing somewhere behind its rear end, because that order for a 'unicorn farting a rainbow' had backfired spectacularly when it became impossible to discern red from green from purple.

... Just have some Jello shots.

Iris was here partly because she liked Summer and partly because, look, it was better than squinting at the past week and going 'huh, yeah, okay, being a monster was... really not that bad?' and pondering the fact that it had bothered her more that Silly had turned into a monster than she, herself, being one had twisted her around.

And she was still cleaning up the mess of her greenhouse. Ugh.

"I'm frightened to ask, like, what happened to the cake," Iris said, because obviously she was going to notice that.

And have a few Jello shots.

Well. Nobody was probably ever 100% Eldritch Plague Free, that sort of thing you just carried with you forever, but, at least with Summer Smith, it was contending to make space with plenty of other deeply scarring internal horrors that had long since settled in and made themselves comfy.

Not that you could ever tell, though, of course, because Summer? Was loving this, this was perfect...well, not perfect, she was still sad that everything couldn't be there in all its obnoxiously pink glory, but, with the circumstances, she didn't think she could really complain, like, at all.

He got her a birthday tiara. AND A UNICORN CAKE.

Seriously, best birthday ever! Even better than the one where she turned eight and her dad got a donkey (that was supposed to be a pony) that kicked Tricia Lange in the face and she spent the whole rest of the party crying.
