This week? Was driving Prompto crazy. Truth be told, this whole summer was making him crazy, and every day was like a new roller coaster of anxiety and pent up energy and horrible crippling fear, and it was reaching a point where he wasn't sure if he could take it anymore. But there wasn't much he could do about it outside of just hitching a portal back to Insomnia, but, what? What he going to do that every single time?

Well, he could, but he'd feel pretty shitty about.

But what else could he do? Something fun, something silly, something that could be done in the daytime hours before the sirens but that wasn't necessarily outside that would remind them of everything, but wasn't in the dorms, either, because he was feeling a little closed in and trapped and claustrophobic about the place this week...

Then he had an idea, and it was pretty dumb and dorky and kind of lame, but (spoiler alert!) HE was pretty dumb and dorky and kind of lame (SHOCKER, right?), so it worked, and he hit up the emails and the texts to his fellow students:

S'up, everyone!

I don't know about you guys, but this week is feeling all KINDS of BLAH for me, so I got to thinking: I'm gonna do something about it! Kind of. I'm talking Fast Eddie's, pizza, bowling, arcade games, BOOM. Something that's decidedly NOT all doom and gloom and creepy monsters. And early, so the people who need to can get back well before the sirens go off again, and everyone else? Bring your weapons, we can have, like, a super raid party on the way back!!!

Anyway, I'm going to be there either way. Hopefully you'll all be there, too! DON'T MAKE ME EAT ALL THIS PIZZA BY MYSELF!!!

And, as the message said, he was there, either way, getting in a few warm-up practice shots before too many people showed up (assuming anyone even will, but, whatever, he was going to have fun and a million leftovers if no one did!), wrinkling his nose at the bowling shoes because he sort of like them for how weird the color combos were, but, man, did they make his ankles look small when he was used to wearing boots all the time!

[[ work is pretty chill this morning and I'm bored af (famous last words!), plus a couple of bottles thrown into the recycling bin sounded like bowling pins to me, so here we are! Invitations went out to all students, but it's a public place, so come on in, anybody! No OCD because that would take me a million years; let chaos reign, I guess! woo! ]]

"Lana! Hey!" Prompto beamed when he saw her, mostly out of relief that more people were actually showing up than anything, waving back before bouncing over, feeling oh-so-light in his weird, slippery, ugly-ass shoes. "Awesome! Glad to see you make it down! Welcome to the..." And here he had to grin a little bit more, "impromptu Prompto party!"

Which, you had to admit, had a pretty good ring to it, riiiiiight??

Lana laughed. "Thank you for the invitation. What are those on your feet? Are those the infamous bowling shoes?"

"They aaarrreeee," said Prompto, sounding equal parts amazed and mystified by them, as he leaned over a little, lifting his toes, as if to show them off a little more as he looked down at them, laughing a little himself. "Aren't they the worst? I was thinking of trying to pass them off as, like, my new look or something, but I don't think even I could make that sound convincing."

This coming from someone wearing leopard-print skinny jeans, Lana! Leopard-print. Skinny jeans!

"I don't think anybody could." And she'd seen Sith fashion. "Don't they make them in simpler colours?"

"Not even a little," Prompto chuckled, smirking. "I'm pretty sure they order these things from the same place Dean Skywalker gets most of the shirts for the Wednesday activities."

"I wouldn't doubt it," Lana said. "Don't say that too loudly, or he'll make us wear these, too."

Prompto snickered a little, then looked dramatically over his shoulder on one side, then the other, before lowering his head a little closer, conspiring, when his attention shift back to Lana. "You think the squirrels will rat us out?" he asked. "Because not only are they super ugly, Lana, but they are so uncomfortable, too. But...they are slippery. Kinda slidy. That's the whole point, they said, because normal shoes would scratch up the special bowling floor. I gotta admit, get one of those slippery special floors paired up with everyone in these slippery shoes? That could be kinda interesting."

"Why don't they just use floors that don't need ridiculous shoes?" Lana asked.

"I mean," Prompto shrugged a little, "buying a whole bunch of gross shoes to make people wear is probably a lot cheaper than replacing whole floors with upgrades. Maybe it's cultural, too? I don't know. Maybe we'll have to find one of the Earthlings and ask?"

"If one of them shows up," Lana said. "Unless the person handing out the shoes might know." She shrugged. "How have you been, anyway? Haven't seen much of you lately."

"Mmmmmm...." The sound Prompto made was part groaning, part thoughtful, as he tried to figure out whether it was best to give the usual bullshit answer he was inclined to just spout out from sheer habit or something a little more truthful. But it wasn't like Lana hadn't been living through all of this crap with the rest of them, right? So he went with something somewhere in the middle, shrugging his shoulders with a helpless little, "Meh.

"You know how it's been around here," he sighed, shaking his head. "Just kinda...wears you down, y'know? I need a break or something...And I just took one!"

Each day...hell, each hour!...felt like a constant flip-flop between wishing he'd just stayed back home and being glad he'd come back. It was giving him mental, emotional whiplash.

"How 'bout you?" he asked, sincerely, but also eager to get the topic away from him and his feelings on the matter. "How are you holding up through all this..." He waved his hand vaguely, not even knowing what to call it. "....stuff?"

"Not so bad," Lana answered. "We - Sabine and Norman and I - went back to my home planet a few weeks ago and brought back a lot of supplies. Mostly this insanity just makes me feel like I'm back at the Sith Academy. Well, not in the actual occurrences, just in the 'you never know what could try to kill you' sense."

Prompto snorted a little at that, like he would have totally chalked that up to Lana making a joke if he didn't know any better by now, and he shook his head. "Yeah, my old school did not prepare me for anything like this," he said, "which, I guess, is exactly why I'm not at my old school anymore."

And he snorted again, because, hey, he'd sort of tried to just go back to his own school, and he rubbed his neck a little sheepishly over that fact, even if Lana didn't even know any of that.

"I think I still kind of prefer the whole 'nothing's trying to kill you' cirriculum, though."

"I like not having to fear for my life from the lessons," Lana agreed, "but there's something to be said for not getting too complacent, either."
