Parents' Weekend Meet & Greet! - Friday Afternoon

Hopefully, everyone in Fandom was ready for their guests, because everything was ready for the guests at the park. The weather was behaving (although it still wasn't fall, grumble grumble) and there was a tasteful amount of glitter around the food and decorations. The banner, however, was all glittered out as hung over the entrance:

Metaphorically shiny, they weren't also glittered. That would just be mean.

Gregg was, in fact, quite disappointed that his name tag wasn't glittered. Still, he supposed it would have to do.

She very artfully signed her full name because this place was weird and odds were high on knowing other people.

Captain Raymond Holt looked over the name tags with a slightly raised eyebrow.

He was already wearing a name tag. It was part of his uniform. It was already very shiny.

He signed in and politely declined the extra name tag.

If you thought being king of a whole country would prevent T'Challa from checking on his sister, you'd be mistaken.

Because he was there to make sure things were going well in order to ease their mother's mind. And because this was a tiny bit of sibling payback for messing with him all the time. But, you know, with quiet dignity.

He eyed the offered name tags with something like concern.

Katy would get to trying to find the best way to stealth on her big brother to surprise him in a moment; right now, she was preoccupied with trying to figure out exactly where might be the best place to actually wear her name tag, since her shorts and tank top, while being super cute, didn't leave a whole lot of space for rent.

Right smack dab in the center of her tank top would be a little too obvious. So she wound up smacking that tag right there on her short shorts on the left side. That should be fine.

Oscar would admit to himself (and probably only himself) that this was probably a terrible idea, something he ruminated on as he signed himself in and considered his name tag. He knew his daughter well enough to know that she didn't like surprises, but he also knew her well enough that if he'd have told her he was planning on coming for this weekend, she'd have completely skipped town. This would have been a whole lot easier if Julia had decided to come with him, but...well. That was complicated. He hoped he could avoid complicated this weekend. He mostly just wanted to show up and let his little Rosa know he was proud of her, following in his teaching footteps and everything, no matter how much she'd claim to hate it every step of the way.

Nathan followed the directions to the island. It was easy enough to find the registration table. He thought he'd have to put his name on a tag but to his bemusement, they already had his name printed on it.

He clipped it to the pocket of his jacket and looked around. Didn't really expect to see Duke here but there was free food so, maybe.

Grandma Babcock did not, in fact, take a shiny nametag. She considered them for a moment, sure. She was even faintly amused that there was one for her there. But, being dead for years made picking one up and putting it on a little difficult.

And being an invisible ghost made wearing a nametag pretty irrelevant, anyway. She gave an amused little snort, and then drifted off to see if her jackass son had let Norman know she was coming.

... Not that Perry could have heard her when she'd told him she was doing just that, granted.

"Ugh," Arsinoe grumbled as she perused the nametag table.

The grumbling was because she'd spotted her nametag, alongside Mirabella's.

Both of which, naturally, had the title of 'Queen' preceding their names.

She handed her sister's over and then quickly grabbed a marker and, not seeing any blank nametags, settled for scratching out the title on hers. That would have to do.

A person of undeterminable gender put the nametag on her spotless white shirt, wearing equally spotless gloves, and looking quite pleased while doing so. It said "Presger Translator Zeiat".

There was plenty of finger foods and cool drinks available, in case anyone had a long trip, or was just curious about what people eat here!

Mae's parents couldn't afford to come down for the weekend, so as far as she knew she was on her own. Which was fine. She was just going to pile a plate with some food and laugh at everyone else having to deal with their family.

Trevor had also planned on showing up to just take food and nope out. Because his entire family was dead. Also from the past.

So, that plan was going well. Or poorly because this was all terrible to watch.

"And we're sure he's actually here," said the petite blonde woman with the glasses, cautiously sipping her drink through a straw.

"Why wouldn't he be?" asked the tall black man sitting next to her, looking somehow too straight of spine and too childishly earnest to be here, all at once, as if he was displacing the air around him. "Maybe Lucy has even missed us."

Linda cleared her throat. "He did make it clear he wanted a clean break from... LA."

"It's just a... a phase he's going through, Linda. He's been calling you, hasn't he?"

"Yes. Mostly to inform me how well he's been doing without... LA."

"So there you go! He'll be so happy to see us!"

Linda let her expression do the talking.

On the one hand, going to the events this weekend exposed Rosa to more people. On the other hand, hiding out in her office put her right where people could easily find her. So she wasn't sure exactly what was the best strategy here. But she did figure at least there was food at this one, so she could just grab something to eat, maybe mill around a little bit glaring at people while she ate some carrots, and then retreat, secure in the knowledge that she'd made an appearance, and it wasn't her fault if no one happened to catch her, right?

Of course, this whole plotting and planning for the least interaction possible would likely be shoved way to the side once she got around to actually recognizing a few of those faces in the crowd that she was intending to mildly glare at.

"Now that's what I'm talking about!" a genuine smile appeared on Arsinoe's face for just a moment as she spotted the tables of food.

Of course, once she had her plate of food, she was right back to glowering.

Nobody mind the grumpy-looking teenager with the jagged scar across half her face making her way through the selection of food Fandom had to offer. "Mira," she said, turning to her sister and practically shoving a piece of pizza at her. "You've got to try this- whatever it is."

Rey and Finn hadn't gotten back yet, so at some point Chewie just left to see where he was. And there was too, so.

Apparently he was just going to take a whole tray of something. Look, did you want Wookiee fur in your finger foods?

The Translator, a person of indeterminable gender in crisp white clothes, including gloves, looked quite excited as she made her way towards the table. The expression briefly turned to disappointment when she had assessed the options.

"Why is there no fish sauce?"

This disappointment faded a little when she found a pizza slice, which she somehow managed to eat while keeping her gloves without a stain.

Barry had struggled with the name tags last year and therefore just completely bypassed them this year.

He also couldn't enjoy any of the food, so, mingling it was. Just a creepy, floating guy in a red robe. No big.

Duke had a plan. He'd show up to the opening . . . gathering, or whatever, play nice respectable teacher for any of his students' parents who wanted to meet him, eat some free food. And then head right back to the Rouge and head to sea for the rest of the weekend.

Seriously. He did not have a good history with people's parents.

He had a name tag on, complete with a little shield drawn onto it, because he thought he was funny.
