Sparkle? Was in a surprisingly good mood today. Their morning had been not-bad-at-all, thank you, and today seemed like as good a day as any to test-drive a singular 'they,' to see how it felt. And, you know, there were a bunch of guys today who were probably having a difficult time, so...

Here was Sparkle, showing up for a second whole day in a row to check up on the place, round up every sports bra and multi-pack of women's underwear in the shop, and put them out with a sign in the window.

Ha. There. That was Sparkle's charity for the week.

Until Wednesday. But they didn't know that yet.

Simon wasn't sure what it was, but he'd been feeling bad all morning -- bad enough that he was actually a little late getting to the store, which meant that he was a little confused to see the lights on and the door open when he got there. "... Uh, hi?" he said, seeing the unfamiliar person putting up the sign. "I thought it was my day to work. I didn't realise Sparkle had hired anyone else."

And then he promptly turned into a badger.

"Oh, yeah, hey Si--um."

Sparkle blinked. Leaned forward over the counter to kind of blink down at the badger on the floor. And then grimaced, nightmare memories of Zeela after an animal transformation coming back to haunt him, years and years and years later.

"... Oh, not again."

The badger looked up at Sparkle, a little plaintively, and let out a little badger-y sound.
Whatever badgers sound like.

Sorry, Sparkle, guess you've got a badger now.

"If I make my way around the counter," Sparkle said, hands up in a surrender gesture, "you're not going to maul my leg, right? I need that leg."

They used it! They used both of them, actually. They were pretty fond of their legs.

"Look, I'll feed you until you turn back. I'll even make sure the quokka don't try to eat you. But the second you maul my leg, I'm putting you up at the shelter, okay?"

Sorry. Badger trauma.
