The warehouse Rey seems to be stealing- Friday afternoon

Historically this had always been a tough time of year for Rey, though she had no idea whether it would feel the same this year. There had been a lot of changes since the last holiday season she'd spend in Fandom, maybe it'd be easier now.

Or maybe it'd hurt more, so Rey had spent most of yesterday at the shooting range, since that was something she had to get better at. It helped to feel like she was actively working toward something. And today at least was training, which she was looking forward to, even if she still didn't entirely know what to expect yet.

She got to the warehouse early, running through the firm she'd learned last week with her staff while she waited for Anakin. She still found this one boring, but that didn't mean she wasn't going to make sure she had it down.

Anakin came into the warehouse with a box floating behind him. "I've brought presents," he said. "And pie."

"I'm interested in both of these things," Rey said, finishing her current movement before stopping.

[sith_happened]

"Good," Anakin said. "While my wife and her mother are professional Thanksgiving eaters, we were invited to and attended five different dinners, which is insane. So we have a ton of leftovers."

He grinned. "And Jaina sent a lightsaber."

Well, a huge box of stuff, but Anakin was going to dole those out judiciously.

"She did? That feels fast," Rey sahd, but she wa actually pretty excited about it.

And maybe she'd tempered expectations in case it was never sent at all.

"The Portalocity gnomes are terrified of her," Anakin said proudly. "They get her stuff here fast."

"That's impressive. I argued with them for years," she said, setting her staff down against some crates.

"It is," Anakin agreed, beaming. He held the training lightsaber out, hilt first. "Part of the ritual of becoming a Jedi is building your own lightsaber, but that will come later."

She reached out to take it, almost cautiously, like she didn't expect to be given these much. "What about repairing one I already have?"

And it still felt weird to hear that when she argued that she wasn't a Jedi, but she could leave that alone for now.

Anakin smiled. "You can do that too."

[thatwaslucky]

"Okay. Good," she said with a tiny smile. She had a history with that one. "So thjs is a training one, right?"

[sith_happened]

"Right," Anakin said. "Ten year old me was very into the inner workings of them because I learned fairly early how to turn off the safeties, so if you remember what I told you about it, that was all accurate."

"I do." She'd even explained it to someone else. "I'm absolutely going to figure out how to turn off the safety."

Training was fine. Invasions, not so much.

Anakin grinned. "You wouldn't be a very good Padawan if you didn't figure it out."

[thatwaslucky]

"Is that a test, too?" Rey asked, only half joking.

[sith_happened]

"It was a test to see which of the Padawans were fun to hang out with?" Anakin offered.

The ones who didn't try to turn it off were soooooooo boring.

"And you were apparently one of the fun ones," Rey said, eyebrows raised.

[sith_happened]

"Well, I thought so, at least," Anakin said. "Obi-Wan had a different opinion."

[thatwaslucky]

"Was he tough?" Rey wondered. "I've only heard a little bit about him."

[sith_happened]

"He was stern," Anakin said, a fond smile on his face, "and deeply dedicated to the Order, to diplomacy, and to letting things take their own time. You can see how this wouldn't be the best things for me as a teenager to run up against repeatedly."

"Or, a good thing to run up against that you didn't want to hear?"

She could not judge.

[sith_happened]

"Mostly that," Anakin said, smiling. "We were the opposites of the other. That's what made us work so well."

Until they really, really didn't.

[thatwaslucky]

"I get that, maybe," she said vaguely. "Does that mean training involved a lot of yelling?"

[sith_happened]

"Sometimes," Anakin said, "but not usually. Obi-Wan was almost impossible to rile up."

Which was why he'd tried so hard.

"I think I have a decent picture of this in mind," Rey said, allowing a small smile.

Anakin smiled at her. "He would like you."
