Caritas- Tuesday

There was a giant teddy bear behind the bar when Kitty got in.

She didn't know why, so she kind of stepped around it and got to work. The island had been leaving random stuff for a while, but was this like, a comfort present? She had no idea. And the longer she left it there, the more it distracted her from her actual work.

"Tino?" she finally checked.

The bear didn't answer, which was probably for the best.

Rosa came into the bar, headed to her usual spot, noticed the bear, tilted her head, seemed like she was about to say something, changed her mind, shook her head minutely, and sat down.

"Kitty," she then said, nodding, after all that.

"Rosa," Kitty nodded back, kind of wondering if whatever was about to be said would get said in time. "What'll it be today?"

Totally normal.

Rosa took a moment to consider the bear, and then considered Kitty.

"I think it's a good whiskey night," she decided.

"Coming right up," Kitty said, starting to get the drink together. "How're you doing?"

"Meh." Rosa shrugged a shoulder. "No complaints. Last class tomorrow, so I've got that going for me. Also, you've been here forever. Where would you think is the best place to toss a projector from?"

[throughaphase]

"...The roof of one of the apartment buildings. Why?"

Had to ask.

Rosa nodded. That was pretty much what she figured.

"I think I'm going to celebrate by stealing the projector I had to use all semester by launching it off the highest place I can find. Maybe by myself, maybe with a catapult. I haven't decided yet."

[throughaphase]

"You could maybe put it in a bag and get some momentum by swinging it around in a circle for a while," Kitty suggested, sliding over the drink. "That sounds cathartic."

"Good work-out, too," Rosa added, thoughtfully, after considering it for a moment, but then she shook her head. "Problem with a bag, though, is that then you don't get to see it smash when it hits the ground. Although that would be good if I decided to throw it in the ocean."

She hadn't decided on that yet, either.

"Hmm. Might be anticlimactic," Kitty noted.

"The ocean part?" Rosa asked. "Yeah, I agree, although that was mostly just for really seeing just how far I can get it. There's a lot of ocean out there. But you're right. Unless I were to rig it up with explosives," mentioned in a way that made it clear that this had been seriously considered, "it can only splash so much. Plus, I want it destroyed. I feel like there's always a chance it could come back from something like a watery grave, but it'll at least have to work for it if it's smashed into a million pieces."

"What did it do to you, anyway?"

Was this a question she should have asked earlier? Probably, but what was the fun in that?

Rosa was a little surprised that Kitty hadn't asked yet, but she also figured maybe that was just because Kitty had a better sense of priority than most.

"Failed to work properly for my class all semester and stuck me with some stupid boomer humor old lady comic instead of the bad ass life lessons I was planning on teaching," she offered.

You know. Like a total normal thing that normal projectors did, right?

"...do I want to know?" Tony asked with a wary look.

[throughaphase]

"I don't know," Kitty said with a sigh. "I thiiiink it's a random bear that the island left?"

[imafuturist]

"Well." If it wasn't going to kill them, they should be fine. "You know what, I'm going to leave it at that so you don't accuse me of jinxing us all."

[throughaphase]

"Yeah, I think that's the general feeling on this," she admitted, wrinkling her nose. "So how've you been?"

[imafuturist]

"Eh," he admitted with a wry grin and little wiggle of his hand to illustrate. "Can I get a scotch on the rocks?"

[throughaphase]

"Of course," she said, going to grab the glass. "Why 'eh'?"

[imafuturist]

"Kid weekends," Tony said like that was reason enough.

[throughaphase]

"Oh, yeah, that'll do it," she said with a wince, pouring the drink and sliding it over.

She'd mostly lucked out, but there'd been at least one doozy.

Tony lifted his glass to toast to that before taking a burning sip. "I think it'd be better if I ended up alive in any of these realities."

This was a very Marvel conversation, wasn't it?

[throughaphase]

"That'd be too easy." Yep, Marvel conversation. "How many have you not been alive in?"

[imafuturist]

Tony paused and thought back on it. "Three? Yeah, I think three. One where the kid was raised by Steve. One where we were both dead and somehow cursed that poor kid to be named James and raised by Rhodey and Bucky. And this last one where she blamed Steve for me--some version of me--dying."

A beat.

"And somehow Strange was involved in that one."

[throughaphase]

"Alternate realities are messed up," Kitty sighed. "With or without Doctor Strange. Moreso with him, though."

[imafuturist]

"Ugh, magic," Tony said, making such a face.

[throughaphase]

"How's Steve doing with it?" Kitty asked.

[imafuturist]

"As well as expected." Meaning not very well. "Working on it."

[throughaphase]

"It takes time," she said. "Sometimes you get lucky with these, and sometimes you get whammied."

[imafuturist]

"And sometimes you have your real kid," he teased.

[throughaphase]

"Sometimes, and let me tell you how much that real kid doesn't appreciate dealing with her baby self," Kitty said. Oops. "Probably why she didn't show up this year."

They'd totally had her take pictures with her baby version.

[imafuturist]

"Really? No patience out of kids these days." Oh sure, that was it.

[throughaphase]

"Yeah, we got her very vague little brother," Kitty said.

[imafuturist]

"Oh, are we planning on another baby shower soon?" They do multiple ones, right? He had no clue.

[throughaphase]

"Nooooo," Kitty said, shaking her head. "I get the impression there's a sizable age difference and I am totally fine with that."

[imafuturist]

Tony held up his hands in surrender. "Well, you'll get there when you get there."

[throughaphase]

"If. Alternate universes and all," she pointed out.

[imafuturist]

"Better chance than I have of having a kid with Steve," he pointed out.

[throughaphase]

"Yeah, but you still never know either way. One of my best friends is a Summers."

And yeesh.

[imafuturist]

"Please don't say that." Tony was suitably traumatized now, thanks.

[throughaphase]

"I'm just saying, none of these things are definite." Or something.

[imafuturist]

"Summers, Kitty." He knew better!

[throughaphase]

"I take it back?" she tried.

[imafuturist]

"Thank you," Tony said, still not looking all that at ease.
