Dite's Decadent Delights, Monday

Jaskier had a job! Another job. One that wasn't teaching or singing. It was all very novel and interesting if only for what the place sold.

But for now, he wasn't getting himself acclimated to the inventory, he was busy with this wonder called the internet. Mostly Spotify. ~~This post is brought to you by Spotify~~.

"I should be allowed to skip more than this," Jaskier informed the website sullenly, leaving him stuck with a song he'd deemed not worth his time as he waited for the next bop to turn up on his playlist.

Who was rather enjoying the Britney Spears discography.

Shy? Yeah, Dante didn't truck with shy. And Kathy had been nudging him about going in to meet her new employee. So here he was, striding with ease into the shop like he belonged there, red leather coat and all. "Yo, I heard something about a two-for-one special?" he called, grinning.

... Sorry, Jaskier. He did love his puns.

"Well, I would say that depends on the two," Jaskier replied without missing a beat. Because who didn't love a good innuendo.

Dante grinned. "Kathy said you were fun," he said cheerfully. "What's up, man? Jaskier, right?"

"Oh! Which one of the boyfriends are we?" Jaskier said, brightening up immediately. And, also, shamelessly giving him a once over.

"I'm Dante," Dante said, smirking.

Maybe tilting his head a little like yeah, he knew you were checking him out and he was smug about it.

Dante, he checked everyone out. But he did like what he saw in this instance at least!

"A pleasure to meet you, Dante."

Yeah, but Dante knew he was pretty and was happy to encourage it!

"So what brings you here, man?" he said. "Just... really wanted to go work in a sex shop on a tiny East Coast island?"

"Ah, no. I have very unfortunately been kept here against my will after a very memorable encounter with a goat man some time back," Jaskier replied. "I am teaching Story and Songcraft, but it's..."

He scrunched up his nose as he tried to find a good phrase for it.

"Not as fulfilling as it could be. And when faced with such beauty as Kathy, how could I resist?"

"Definitely the hottest shop owner you're gonna find around here," Dante said, leaning on the counter. "And lots of shit around to fill stuff with."

"Certainly the most beautiful I've met." So far. He had other shops to check out!

Dante snickered. "Well, I'm glad she's hiring hot people our age," he teased. "Sorry about the goat man thing, this island just gets fucked every now and again."

Jaskier shamelessly preened under that compliment. "So long as it doesn't happen again..."

Now they were jinxed.

"Hey, I'm hanging around the island more now that Kathy's teaching again," Dante said, grinning. "Have sword, will beat up goat guys."

Jaskier looked him over again. No yellow eyes or stench of onions about this one. Though he did still reek of heartache and heroism.

"Then you will be my very best friend." Dante, don't let him fool you. He'll drag you into dumb situations of his own making.

It was that special blend of my-girlfriend-used-to-be-a-zombie and my-asshole-brother-keeps-getting-himself-killed that did it.

Dante snickered. "So what kinda place you come from anyway?"

That was probably it, yes!

"Well, one that seems perfectly normal for home." Which didn't help at all. "Kings and Queens and the occasional monster along the road. That sort of thing."

"No kings and queens here," Dante offered. "I mean, we got a president, he's kind of a moron."

"Well, to be fair, most of the royalty is too." One had a kid with his sister! It was very Game of Thrones.

"Yeah, but people actually elected our moron," Dante pointed out. "Which is its own kinda fucked."

"Yeeesss, I can see how that would be," Jaskier said slowly. "But politics hardly make for good conversation fodder unless someone is planning a bloody coup."

An hour or so after Dante first showed up, Kathy popped in, her acoustic guitar over a shoulder, Ronin padding along beside her. "Hello the store!" she called. "It's the boss, better look busy!"

Right. Because Kathy was absolutely concerned with busywork.

"I am selling many things to all the people here," Jaskier offered. You know. To the packed store.

"Ooooh, doing exceptionally brisk business today, I see," Kathy said laughing. "Glad to see you can keep up."

"I've managed quite admirably if I do say so!" He had one customer. And Dante didn't even count as one.

THE RAIN IS TERRIBLE AND NEEDS TO STAY GONE. FUCK SPRING.
