Caritas- Tuesday

Kitty was back, on her regular day.

Where Tino, who'd been suspiciously unaffected yesterday, kept eyeing her like he expected something to happen.

"No. It's fine. I'm staying me," Kitty groaned, and then began worrying a little bit that she'd just jinxed herself.

"We're not drinking tequila this time," Tony said, taking a seat at the bar.

"Absolutely not," Kitty agreed. "The day for that was yesterday, and we wouldn't have ever gotten to do it."

"I gave up at doing anything productive yesterday after about an hour," he admitted with a sigh.

"I should have. Instead I ended up shirtless at work, twice." Yeah.

"Let's try not to do that today," Tony replied slowly. You know. Just something to try for.

"It's not happening," Kitty assured him. "Because today's not insane."

"And we are not drinking tequila." Which made all the difference.

"What are you drinking instead?" Kitty said.

She'd also done random shots throughout yesterday, she was good.

"Let's go with a beer and leave it at one in case we get gang-pressed into that class again tomorrow," Tony suggested.

"Ugggh, that's right, that's tomorrow," Kitty said, like she didn't go willingly.

Kitty, no. Don't you do it. "I'll pass on doing that again."

Oh no, she was already signed up, how terrible. "Yeah, okay," she scoffed, sliding over his beer. "You never know when your name's getting called unexpectedly."

"Can't make me if I'm not near the place," he counted out, taking a sip. Steve would have to drag him along with the promise of something else.

Silver was all about fairness (at least when it came to drinking) so it was only right he try out the other drinking establishment. It wasn't any less of a pain in the ass to get there on his crutch but he blamed that on the island itself which seemed to hate him in the whole hills area.

"Rum, if you please," he said, sliding into a stool and resting his crutch against the edge of the bar.

"Sure," she said, giving him a friendly smile. "You look new."

"Extremely," he said. "Not only to this island but to this country and this century."

So last week had been a bit of a culture shock. However he was picking up the pieces of his ability to adapt more quickly than he anticipated. That was nice.

"Yeah, that happens sometimes," she said, not unsympathetic. "But welcome. I'm Kitty."

"John," he said, giving her a nod of his head. "I work at the other drinking establishment, but I figured I should broaden my horizons. At least when it comes to taverns."

[throughaphase]

"That's good. Besides, it's a small town, it's easy to get bored of one place," she said, setting his drink down in front of him. "So I'm guessing you're not on island on purpose?"

[long_memory]

"Definitely not," he said, taking a swig of rum. Just as good as the other place, it turned out! "One second I was sinking to the bottom of the ocean--which is bad enough, mind you--and the next I wake up three hundred years into the future with a rat person looking at me."

Her name was Freya.

"The bright side is, you didn't drown."

Probably. It was entirely possible.

"I had my doubts about that at first," Silver admitted. "I mean, you can understand where I thought this place was a strange version of the afterlife, right?

[throughaphase]

"Oh, yeah, this place is insane," she said with a nod. "People don't believe how weird it is for months sometimes."

"They must be extremely unobservant."

Or at least came from a time were electricity was a thing.

"More like stubborn," Kitty said thoughtfully. "Or in some extreme denial."
