The beach, Saturday afternoon

There were an inordinate number of rocket pops around--Steve kept taking new ones he found and putting them into a kiddie pool--and everything down at the beach had been draped in red, white, and blue: bunting, streamers, and weird little pinwheels the woodchucks kept running off with.

There were grills going with hot dogs, hamburgers, and veggie burgers, plus corn and other veggies. (The attempt at grilling green beans had been an error.) There were also sides and more things stuck into Jello than should be put in Jello (which was basically anything put into Jello). There were all kinds of sweets other than the rocket pops--ice cream sandwiches, red, white, and blue Oreo cookies and the Oreos with the pop rocks in them--watermelon, brownies, and a huge cake that managed to fit 102 candles onto it.

Music was playing--mostly regular pop music with the occasional big band song to make Steve grin--and a bunch of weird outside games to play including badminton, cornhole, and croquet.

When the sun went down, there would be a fireworks display designed by Tony, but there was plenty of fun to be had before then, too!

Come on over!

And don't ask too hard about why the sand appeared to be made of Old Bay seasoning.

Liam, naturally, was here. And studiously staying upwind of any grilling meats while also admiring the sheer... everything, that was the decor.

At this point, Amaya practically felt like regular social butterfly over here with the sheer amount of parties she'd been attending. Wasn't quite sure how that happened, but she wasn't about to complain, not when there was food and good company and....

A lot of red, white, and blue, but well, it was a theme...

Amaya grinned back a little, not really sure if it did apply, but maybe it sort of did, since she'd been living here long enough, anyway, to maybe appreciate its holidays like this, but there was something else a little more relatable.

"And happy birthday," she said with a nod, the grin growing a little more with a small, cheery sort of pump of her fist, "since I hear that undoubtedly applies."

The bonus of coming from a different version of Steve's universe was that Kitty could show up in a Captain America shirt for the holiday.

She wouldn't wear this back home! But here, sure.

Because of course Summer had done just that, she couldn't show up at a birthday party for Steeeeeve and not bring more jello! It was, like, required!

So no one mind Summer oh-so-subtly finding room on the food tables to add her plethora of Jello Firecrackers (both with and without booze, and clearly marked, you are welcome), as well as something she made specifically with Steeeeve in mind (you could tell because of the little toothpick sign plunked into it that said "Happy Birthday, Stteeeeeeeve!") and one with America in mind (you could tell because it had a little toothpick sign plunked into it that said "Happy Birthday, AMERICA"), and then something else entirely that had no one else in mind, least of all common decency.

Summer clearly needed more hobbies.

That was a lie. It was very much his thing on a biological level.
