Caritas- Tuesday

Kitty had been through this before. She knew how it went.

Which was why once her clothes started disappearing she put on extra clothes to be safe. Which wasn't exactly comfortable, due to the heat, but it meant that once she got to the bar she cranked up the AC a little. Look, it was hot, people would probably appreciate that, right?

Ugh. Just ugh.

Tony was wearing linen in the hopes that it would keep him from keeling over in this heat. Also, it was the only thing he could find in his closet. Which wasn't normal considering he was a bit of a clotheshorse. "I'm getting off this island before this gets worse."

Bless his heart for thinking he could avoid it.

"Steve's very stubborn." That should explain everything ever.
imafuturist: (I thought it went well!)

"I can't leave him behind, he'll end up getting heatstroke on a run." Could he even get heatstroke?

Rosa had not experienced something quite like this before, but after losing a jacket earlier when inspecting her soon-to-be-new place and then finding half her wardrobe gone when she got out of the shower before coming over here, she was definitely suspecting something was up, and coming in and realizing that her jacket-less self was going to start freezing in here soon, in addition to Kitty in layers only confirmed it.

"Okay," she said, looking almost like she didn't want the answer to this question, but knowing she needed it, "what's going on this time?"

"...Laundry strike?" asked Rosa, after a moment, because, yes, she could deduce most of this, and, yes, she could expect something that stupid from this island, but, for some reason, she just wasn't willing to just lie down and accept it that easily. "Are you kidding?"

She knew she wasn't kidding.

And she was doing the calculations in her head of her closet this morning compared to her closet when she left to her projections on what her closet would look like when she got back to her apartment.

"Fuck." Her brow creased. "For how long?"

Rosa's eyes narrowed slightly for a moment with the temptation to point out that bedsheets should definitely be considered a part of laundry, but if that's how these things usually went, she didn't want to go and ruin the one chance they all had at public decency.

"Good thing I can rock a bedsheet like nobody's business, then," she said instead, then quirked up her chin. "I'll take a beer, Kitty. I've been looking forward to one all day."

"...good?" said Rosa, sounding not completely sure about it. "Mostly? I mean, I spent the better part of the day in a hot, stuffy building moving around dusty old furniture, which sucked, but it was still...good."

An awkward pause followed, distinctly uncomfortable. The kind of pause that always preceded Rosa actually willingly giving someone information, one that Kitty (and very few other people) might recognize.

"I'm moving, by the way," she informed her. "And I quit the force. Both here and back home. I know the here part made radio, but I figured I'd mention it."

Anything apart from that Seivarden showed up NFB, please

[personal profile] 1000yearstoolate 2020-07-07 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Ignoring everyone, Seivarden walked up to the bar and ordered a large rum from Tino. Then she turned and headed straight towards where Rosa was standing, placing the glass on the bar and nudging it towards the nearest squirrel.

"So," she began, eyes still on the glass.

And Rosa's jaw went stiffer than that glass of rum could ever hope to be when she realized that Seivarden really was walking up to her instead of having the common sense and decency to just keep walking right on by...

The thought about just not saying anything. Just let Hot Leaf Water sweat out yet another terrible decision on her part. That's what she should have done. But she was sort of on a bit of a whole 'reinvention' kick at the moment, and while she definitely had no intention of reinventing herself to be a forgive-and-forget person by any margin, she figured she could reinvent herself to be the sort of person to at least try and get something out of it for herself, if she had to deal with this anyway.

Wait, no, that wasn't a reinvention at all, that was just business as usual.

Whatever.

So she finally looked at her, and it would have been icy if not for all the flames of held-back rage behind it, and lifted her brows.

"Really?" she said. "You think the squirrels are the ones you need to bribe in this situation?"

Then Seivarden looked at her, mostly managing not to let it show how truly embarrassing this was.

"I'm sorry I broke into your apartment. It was inappropriate, and I wish I hadn't."

"And of course," said Rosa, sucking in a breath as she shook her head, "you pick the one place in town where you know I can't even hit you to say that..."

Which was probably more of a benefit for Rosa than for Seivarden, because, yeah, murder wasn't actually a good look for her.

But...at least Seivarden was saying it. And, Rosa judged as she reluctantly looked back at her, seemed like she might even mean it.

Even if it didn't come close to even answering the one question Rosa really had about the situation.

"What the fuck," it almost left her as a sigh, "were you even thinking?"

"I wasn't, really," She said, wishing she had ordered a drink for herself, and considering taking back the one for the squirrels.

It had been a frustrating day for Steve, but he had an unerring knack for finding the bar, so here he was.

He smiled at Kitty. "Can I have a beer, please?"
