Mauvaise Chance Apartments - Early, Early, God Awful Early Saturday Morning

It had been a normal, peaceful morning that was so early it was practically the night before still. If one wanted to be specific. Or if they were still constrained by the tyrant of time.

Then a piercing noise sounded throughout the building as a fire alarm went off.

Because why get a good night's sleep when you could be dragged out of bed to wait on the tiny, under-worked Fandom Fire Department to come make sure everything was fine?

Danny's hair was an absolute mess and he was wearing a stolen Navy sleep shirt as he squinted around the grounds like this was all on purpose to upset him personally.

Which was fair.

"Why is the building shouting at us?" Jaskier asked loudly. To be heard over the alarm and because he was very put out that his beauty sleep was being interrupted.

That noise was the worst.

Rey was out here with her hair down for once, dressed in a tank top and pants, which probably didn't look out of the ordinary aside from the boots she'd shoved on before leaving. She'd also grabbed her satchel on the way out, because it had felt weird to leave the lightsaber behind when an alarm was going off and also because she didn't want to get locked out of her apartment.

"Can they just turn the alarm off?"

Shunsui, as it so happened, was actually on his way back from...whatever it was he did with himself when he seemed to just disappear for a bit, and he had been looking forward to slouching into bed and sleeping away most of Saturday, only to discover it was not an unusual brash siren song of sleep calling to him as he neared but the building itself and far more activity than one ever wanted to see when all one wanted was their bed.

And while, yes, he could sleep through a lot of things and rarely required an actual bed, this seemed like it would be a challenge to sleep through, even for him.

When the alarm went off, Jesse had grabbed for the Service Weapon, bolting across the apartment in search of a trace of anything off.

Five minutes later, she was standing outside in a shirt and her duckie pyjama pants, Service Weapon tucked into her pocket. So much for hiding that.

"I don't think it's a situation where you need that," Danny said dryly. He was, undoubtedly, going to have to say this same thing to Steve.

"I can't leave it laying around," Jesse said. "Safety issue."

Of the 'if anyone but me touches it, it will kill you' variety.

"It was probably an accident and we have to listen to it anyway," Rey said, just a little annoyed.

(She was a lot annoyed by this.)

"This is an accident?" HOW?

"Late night?" Jesse greeted him wryly, with a little wave. Did you just wave at him? Jesse, you awkward nerd.

"Wiring issue? Someone cooking?"

...At this time of night. She wasn't going to pretend to know anyone's lives.

As someone who'd grabbed her own weapon but had it hidden, the weapon didn't surprise Rey that much.

But Jesse was a new person that she hadn't met, and now they got to stand outside at night, so now she was getting that awkward little smile that said 'hi this is stupid.'

"I wasn't cooking," Jaskier assured her. Because if you'd heard anything at all about his current class...

"Maybe invest in a gun safe," Danny suggested with a sigh. Like there weren't weapons hidden in his kitchen as he spoke.

Also because magical gun that kills people who touch it, oddly enough, not on his radar.

"It wasn't an accusation," Rey assured him.

"Not safe enough," Jesse said dryly. "Trust me."

"Hi," Jesse called to her ruefully, once she realized someone was smiling at her. "This is stupid."

"Perhaps not late enough," Shunsui answered, with a smile quite a bit more sleepy than usual, "if it can still be considered morning ♥."

His attention shifted more towards her, as did his grin. "Jesse-chan ♥." A duck of his head, a tilt of his hat. "It's lovely to see you again...though it would be lovlier still if hearing was as easy as seeing right now ♥."

It was impressive, when an apartment building fire alarm could almost match Seireitei war alarms for decibels.

Well, it could have been!

"What was that about wiring?" Because he was mostly just up to date on social media and music, Rey.

"It is kind of loud," Jesse agreed.

... then paused, and raised her voice. "It is kind of loud," she called. "Do you know if anything is actually on fire?"

No creepy red Hiss lights anywhere, at least.

Danny frowned slightly, giving her another once over. The pajamas sort of ruined the image of danger, but, you know. It was probably there still.

"Alright," he said, rubbing his eyes free of sleep. "We can all go back in once the fire department checks and shuts this alarm off."

And people could pretend they were able to go back to sleep.

"A short in the system could cause a malfunction and set the alarm off by accident," she said. Then added, "It's also possible something just hates us."

Silver had no idea what was going on but he was extremely put out by the fact his sleep had gotten interrupted. He barely got a full night's rest in the first place thanks to his leg. He had at least managed to put on pants before exiting the building.

He was now sitting up against a tree, his crutch placed over his lap, and looked like he was attempting to fall asleep again as if that were actually possible right now.

Jaskier nodded like he completely understood that explanation, then more vigorously at the latter option. "I suppose it's better than the heat?"

"It really is. I promise this is the only time this has happened since I've lived here," Rey told her.
