Was it weird that Summer was actually a little disappointed to come into her shift at the bar that night and not find very blatantly new and Christmassy there like the last two weeks? Sure, there was all the mulled wine, but that didn't really have the same oomph as pretty lights and stockings with your name on one of them...

But even if Summer was a little disappointed, it couldn't really touch her because her excitement was too strong. In part because she was apparently going to be spending her Thanksgiving in fucking Utah (and, yes, she was actually looking forward to that, what the fuuuuuuuucck?), and she had seriously been looking forward to tonight's jello shots for weeks, because, goddamn it, she was a basic bitch who loved a theme.

And even though she knew she'd done far worse things to jello than this, there was just something viscerally wrong deep to her core about that gravy one, and she loved it.

"I guess that's what you can be thankful for this year," said Summer with a grin, as she automatically went to place Jesse's generic beer into the spot she sat in last time, then recalculated for the new spot. "That the theme superceded the suggestion."

Yes. She knew it wasn't a suggestion in the slightest. A broad grin went along with the beer.

"Think you want to try on tonight?"

Like sparrows to Capistrano, Eleanor felt the siren call of Caritas on Wednesday nights.

Seeing the jello shot board she gave Summer a look of approval.

"I'm dropping your class so I can declare my love for you and your bravery," she declared. "Hit me up!"

"Please don't do that," said Summer. "You're so close to the end of it, and there is way more crap of that nature going on in that class already as it is. Meanwhile..."

And that was when Summer went and laid out each of the four shots in front of Eleanor like setting out a feast.

"Happy Thanksgiving."

Who needed a full dinner when you could just put it all in bite-sized shots with gelatin and booze?

"The first and only Thanksgiving meal that I'm ever going to enjoy," Eleanor declared as she tossed back the first shot on the list. "Any plans for the holiday?"

"Awww," Summer noted, "that's really sad and I almost feel bad now about how flattered I am right now..."

Almost.

"And I'm going to Utah for a jello festival with my boyfriend."

Which had to be one of the weirdest sentences to ever leave her mouth.

"Safe to say with a statement like that last one you're probably sticking around?"

Annie was in an exceptionally good mood this evening as she swung by Caritas on her way out of town. "So," she greeted Summer with a bright smile, dropping an overnight bag at her feet as she took her seat. "I gotta know: did you make the squad?"

The whole teenage thing was not at all the reason for her good mood, but it made for a good cover in this case, at least.

And it was a good distraction, too, considering that Summer had been fortunate enough to not have anyone even say anything to force her to relive reliving her earliest teenage years all over again.

"Ohmygod, Annie." It came out as a scoff, before Summer rolled her eyes and slumped her shoulders, head tilted back in every ounce of teenaged angst still leftover from that cataclysmic chapter in her life. "No. I definitely did not, and it was tragic. But whatever, I still wound up prom queen, so at least high school wasn't a complete bust in the end..."

Then she eyed Annie, a good mood like that never going to escape her notice for too long, even with awkward teenage drama, and turned it back toward her a little.

"So you were totally adorable, though."

"I was all right," Annie acknowledged, shrugging a shoulder modestly. "Cute, sure, but not brave enough to drink a latte or even try out to be a cheerleader, like some people. And!" she added, pointing a finger, "I was definitely not prom queen. That is adorable."

"I mean," said Summer, in a tone that sounded like it might have tried to be modest but just decided nah, especially with her smirk and own shrugged shoulder, "it was pretty cool, not gonna lie."

Granted, it was at this school, which was tiny, BUT she'd also totally been up agianst the likes of Coolest Girl in the Entire World Rey, sooooo....

It was never going to cease to be a big accomplishment for her.

Then she grinned at Annie. "If we'd have had more time," she decided, "I think I could have totally peer-pressured you into lattes. Or at least frappiccinos. There's barely any coffee in those, anyway."

The assembly earlier had certainly been a thing that happened but it was over and everyone had survived and Stark had decided to stop by Caritas because maybe that was a thing he did on Wednesdays now.

"Is the pumpkin pie actual pie in a shot glass?" he asked Summer as he approached the bar. "Is the cranberry orange safer?"

"There is no shot glass with the pumpkin pie one!" Summer offered brightly, though she wasn't really sure if that would be a selling point or not. But she'd find out! "It's in a little tiny pie crust instead!"

It was super adorable and totally worth the extra work, as she set one down for Stark to see for himself.

"So, it's basically just a little mini pumpkin pie, but with jello and rum, too! But, yes, the cranberry orange one is going to be much more straight forward as a jello shot."

The word 'safer' seemed pretty subjective, after all.

Is it time for me to break out my annual reminder that It's Thanksgiving, made by the same producer who is responsible for Rebecca Black's 'Friday,' exists?

Because in my house it's not Thanksgiving until you're yelling, "Mashed potatoes - YEAH!" across the house. ("Can't be hateful, gotta be grateful" is also a choice lyric.)
