Lucifer was in a bit of an ironic mood today, as anyone who walked in could immediately hear. Why not do instrumental covers of religion-adjacent songs all night?

He was going to have fun with Jewel.

Tiny watched him from the bar, gnawing on a cookie. It was disappointing.

"Well, you and George Michael do have similar facial hair," Jessica pointed out. "But the question is are you going to sing Last Christmas?"

She started to drink before shooting Lucifer a warning glare. "Please. Don't."

Lucifer laughed. "Ah, what has the best of Christmas pop ever done to you, miss Jones?"

"Ugh."

She rolled her eyes and finished her drink.

"It's either too peppy or too depressing. I have enough reasons to drink," she said signaling Tino for a refill.

"Not a fan of the holiday either, I imagine," Lucifer said.

Jessica just gave Lucifer an eyeroll to confirm that statement. "I'd imagine you have your own opinions on the holiday."

"Yes, let's celebrate the most specialest of all of Dad's children, just because he didn't bother to put up a fight when they murdered him," Lucifer said, rolling his eyes as he reached for his drink.

Jessica almost smiled at that. "Not the take I was expecting but the reaction was spot on," she replied. "So how does the devil handle a holiday like this?"

"Previous years, I'd drink heavily and have sex with people," Lucifer said, playing a merry little scale on the piano.

"And this year you're just drinking heavily?" Jessica asked with an amused eyebrow raised up.

"Unfortunately, yes," Lucifer said, waving his glass at Tiny for a refill.

"I won't pry," Jessica replied. "But I will at least buy you a drink in honor of your celibacy. Bottom shelf on that one Tiny! It's on me!"

Okay, she just did that to see Lucifer's reaction.

And that would be a smirk of joy on Jessica's face.

"Make it top shelf. And a double," Jessica called out to Tiny before turning back to Lucifer. "You're lucky I got paid this week."

"Hunting down puppies in trees finally paying off?" Lucifer asked, mollified.

"I got paid for a bunch of jobs I did for a law firm back home," Jessica said with a shrug. "The lawyer finally decided to pay me after I emotionally blackmailed her."

She took a sip of her cheap whiskey and smiled.

"No puppies were involved."

"Oooh, this sounds juicy, do tell," Lucifer said, grinning at her.

Tiny shoved a fresh drink into his hand.

"Oh. The lawyer in question made some rather bad decisions when it came to a client of hers."

Client was a loose word for what it was but Jessica didn't feel like getting into the details.

"As a result the ex-wife attacked the lawyer. And then the lawyer's fiance killed the ex-wife. The lawyer of course got off scott free. Except for the stuff I knew about it."

She paused in thought when she finished. "Okay. Technically it was just plain out blackmail but it was for the money she already owed me but she was being a bitch about it."

"Completely understandable decision," Lucifer said, nodding. "Did the fiance land behind bars, at least?"

"She's there. Not sure if my lawyer friend is getting her out or not," Jessica replied. "Haven't kept up on everything going on back home."

She tilted her head in thought. "If you don't mind answering a job related topic... Is there a special hell for evil lawyers?"

"Hell is just the same Hell for everyone," Lucifer said, grinning. "Though lawyers definitely tend to make things interesting on themselves."

There was a slight disappointment on Jessica's face hearing that. "Hmph. Well. I guess that's something to look forward to."

It wasn't clear if she was talking about her "friend" or herself.

"Hell is all about guilt," Lucifer offered, taking another sip of his drink. "So I hope for your sake she has a lot of it."

Jessica frowned at that. "Honestly you may not want her then. She's remorseless. She might just take over the place and redecorate."

"I want to say 'nobody redecorates my plane but me'," Lucifer said, "But one, I'd never have chosen the way the bloody place looks now, and two," another sip, "I'm retired."

"Yeah. Well I can think of worse places to retire," she said looking around the room. "All the booze you can drink and the people here are oh-so-pretty."
