Lucifer was in a bit of an ironic mood today, as anyone who walked in could immediately hear. Why not do instrumental covers of religion-adjacent songs all night?

He was going to have fun with Jewel.

Tiny watched him from the bar, gnawing on a cookie. It was disappointing.

When not bothering Lucifer, Jessica was getting her drink on at the bar while looking at her phone and considering what Xmas gifts she could get for people which would not require expensive shipping.

Having sat through a couple of religion adjacent songs, Jessica finally ambled over towards the end of the most recent song and leaned against the piano.

"I sense a them here tonight. Is it the season?"

"The season tends to inspire a sense of contrarian irony in me, yes," Lucifer said, grinning at her merrily. "Why? Do you mind?"

"On that occasion your sales will plummet," Jessica warned. "I'll turn around and walk over to Caritas."

"And then you'll take one look at that zombie band attempting to play the very same song, and you'll return," he said, nodding.

Jess mused on that for a moment or two and then shrugged. "Well. You are prettier than the zombies. Of course I could just go drink at home."

Was this a terrible idea right after doing a prolonged tour of banishing a few demons back to a Hell? Yes. Was that going to stop John? No, because a horrible child had stolen almost all the alcohol out of his office, and now he didn't want to break into the stash he had left.

Lucifer heard the comment first, and he raised his chin to deliver the cheerful, pithy response that came to mind...

... and did not give it.

"Johnny," he said flatly. Well, for some measure of 'flat' that clearly matched whatever that muscle above his eyebrow was doing. "I should have known you'd wash up here eventually."

It was funny, because he was nobody's lucky penny, and he knew it, and he knew Lucifer knew it.

"Now that was just below the belt there, mate. Maybe if demons would stop trying to kill my friends -- and me -- that wouldn't be a problem, eh?" he pointed out. "I'm just doing my bloody fucking job, keeping all you 'Celestial' lot from meddling in human fucking free will."

"And at the moment, I'm just trying to get a damn drink. Don't get your feathers in a twist, I'm not here for a favor." He fished around in the pocket of his coat for a moment, coming up with his wallet. "Hey. Tiny. Be a mate and get me a real fucking beer."

"Just delicious delicious booze, and adults. You being here is a delight and a bonus."

"The bloody cheek of him!" John turned a winning smile on her. "Ignore Lucy, sometimes he gets a little too into the torment when it jolly suits him."

John got a small smirk in return. "Well. He's rather hard to ignore. Besides, I find drinking with the devil to be rather fun. Plus if I want to torment him I just try and ply him with low shelf booze."

"Oh, there's plenty of ways to torment him. Insult his hair, wear something that offends his prissy nature, find a way to bond with Maze and make him feel insecure..."

"--but low-shelf booze is probably the fastest and most entertaining."

"Well he hasn't made fun of my outfit yet," Jessica said gesturing to her jeans, old t-shirt and leather jacket. "So clearly I must be of the haute couture crowd."

She lifted her glass as way of saying hello. "Jessica Jones. Relatively new to the island."
