Caritas, Monday
The picnic had been busy, she had met her new roommate, and Seivarden had been distracted from thinking about Breq leaving until she got home. Since then she had been thinking about it. A lot. Most worrying was that Breq had said nothing about when she could return home, and what she had said had implied that it could be a while.
So Seivarden had spent time at the gym, played with Issa, watched Radchaai entertainments, and whatever else she could think of.
Now she was mixing martinis. That she luckily wasn't tempted to drink.
She would google the ones she didn't know.

He grinned. "Either way, I think you can manage a dirty martini."
Re: The Bar
"She is, isn't she. And I believe I can, but you will have to be the judge of that. I'm actually just dabbling in being a bartender, you know."
Re: The Bar
Re: The Bar
She added: "Did you celebrate the New Year?"

Yes, she was expecting to have a very large tab tonight, but, hey, that's what being a school-assigned friend was all about.
"Also, I'll take a strawberry martini, please! How's it going"
Re: The Bar
There was a snort.
"He'll get drinks on your tab. And I'll do my best with a strawberry martini. I'm fine, although Breq went home on Saturday. Oh, and I met Ignis. He seems... well..." almost civilised, "nice."

Vague also worked to avoid bad news, but Breq definitely seemed more direct than that.
Re: The Bar
Seivarden smiled a little nervously, and placed the drink in front of Summer.
"I've just traveled with her for about a year an a half."
Meaning she didn't like being apart from her.
[In my head I had replied to this :(]

Though he was pointedly ignoring the band for the moment. It was like he knew he was going to have a crisis and was protecting himself.
"Can I just get a beer?"
Re: The Bar
The only thing Seivarden knew about beer was that she couldn't pour the draught ones, so she picked a bottle randomly and placed it in front of the stranger, along with a glass.
"You don't happen to be Summer's friend?"
Re: The Bar
Re: The Bar
She gestured towards the stage.
"She said you didn't believe in the zombie band."
Re: The Bar

"Check it out!" Summer set down her drink so she could pull out her phone, pulling up a picture of the massive deluge of duct tape that had been at the store earlier. "We got duct tape!
"Now," she continued, in a more serious tone as she slipped her phone away and picked up the drink again, "I'm pretty sure this is just a temporary, location-specific shift in dimensional coordinents, from a T&C that hasn't had duct tape in ages to one that has always had duct tape, but I figured you'd want to know so you could, like, stock up and stuff while it's still here.
"Ohmygod," she realized, after the BRIEFEST of pauses, "I realize that totally sounds like an ad or whatever, but, seriously. You never know how long these temporal shifts last, so you've really got to take advantage of them while you can.
"So, anyway!" Breathing seemed a thing again all of a sudden, with a bright smile, too. "How was your first claaaass?"
Re: The Bar
He sipped his beer. "Class was good! Had to talk about Spider-Man," he shrugged. "Whatever that is."
Class was not, like, good.
