Caritas, Monday

After some time on YouTube and a bit of practicing, Seivarden had added another cocktail to her list of specials, a list that no longer included all the drinks she was able to make.

Today's Specials:
Cosmopolitan
Dry Martini
Mimosa

She wasn't in the best of moods though. The weekend might not have been the worst the island could throw at her, but it was still so very unnecessary, and she had been tempted to order a portal home on some made up excuse. Breq would have seen right through her though, and while Seivarden didn't generally mind her ability to do that, in this case she knew it wouldn't work to her favour.

So, not in the best of moods. Actually, she was in a terrible mood, even after spending the whole morning at the gym. And even after texting Summer.

"So," said Summer, whose appearance should not be any surprise at all, nor the alacrity in which she showed up, because she did live literally right across the street, "what's this I hear about a free cosmo?"

She was, at times, a very simple woman, yes.

Summer was totally down with bribes when she got free drinks out of it.

"Depends," she said. "Are you willing to try again if it's not up to snuff?"

Nor was she above turning said bribe into an attempt to get more drinks, all under the guise of clearly just helping a coworker perfect her craft.

"No," said Summer, emphatically, although that was a bit of melodrama (melodrama? Her? Never!), because it had actually been fine, but whatever, this was comparatively speaking. "I was back home, hanging out with my lame family and going to family councelling, and missing people being cute and little. Please tell me you have some good wee tiny stories, Seivarden! Were you little? Who else was? Who did you see-slash-talk-to-slash-be-a-dumb-kid-with?? Ohmygod, and you have to ask Apu to show you some of the pictures he took of the tiny baby cheese panda, they are the cutest in the world, I can't believe i missed tiny baby cheese panda!"

"The horror," Summer gasped, putting her very bare and ungloved hand against her clearly shocked chest, before smirking and shaking her head. "Okay, so, good to know, you're were just as boring as a kid as you are as an adult. And yeah. Family councelling. I promised my mom I'd go home more and go back to it as part of her Christmas gift. It started as a thing way back when she and Dad got divorced, but obviously it didn't really stick since I was here and then living in a different galaxy, and even though she and Dad are back together now," cue eyeroll, "she thinks it'll help. And it's fine. I actually don't mind; Dr. Wong is really great and she has no problem calling out bullshit. It's actually kind of great, and it's so nice to have someone around who'll appreciate the fact that I like getting high and drinking and going to parties because it's fun, not because my family sucks."

It was, like, a really super important distinction.

"Yeah, exactly like therapy," Summer confirmed. "And honestly? We do probably need it, although it's pretty interesting. It's always her idea to drag us all along, but we always leave with her all riled up because Dr. Wong calls her out on shit that she refuses to take responsibility for. But whatever. It's an overall net positive, but, man, does Dr. Wong have her work cut out for her. At least Grampa Rick just skipped town instead of turning himself into a pickle this time, though. She says that's already an improvement, in a way."

"I definitely find it helpful," Summer shrugged a shoulder, but, then again, it was nice to hear someone outside the family actually saying the things she wished she could say half the time and get away with it because she was just doing her job, "but your mileage may vary. Also, whatever Lucifer's paying his therapist, it is probably not nearly enough, I take back what I said about Dr. Wong having a tough job, but also that's all I'm saying about that."

"You might like it," Summer shrugged again, but now she could shrug with a drink in hand, which she lifted in salute before taking a sip, "but then again, we're bartenders. Listening to people's problems in an unofficial part of our jobs, too. If there's anything you need to talk about, you know I'm allllllll ears, baby." She grinned faintly. "I actually kind of like that aspect of the job."

Of course she did. It was, like, personalized gossip, fueled by booze. It was fantastic.

"I just spent part of my weekend talking to a professional," Summer snorted, "so I might be all talked out."

She did, however, briefly seem to consider Seivarden for a moment as if deciding that maybe there was something she could talk about, but, well, there were other benefits to having a therapist in a completely different dimension, and that was because that therapist did not live on the same small island with you, covered in nosy squirrels, that knew some of the people you may have been talking about.

"That sounds pretty bad, though," Summer had to admit. "And, I mean, you and I do have pretty different ideas of what's interesting, too. And I was home all weekend, that's pretty much boring central," which was actually categorically false, but this weekend actually had been boring!, "unless you want to hear about my dad's beekeeping enterprise. I mean, you probably have more interesting stuff to talk about right now, anyway! New roommate situation, for example! You guys are totally getting along and stuff, right? Maybe you should drag him to the bar one of these nights, too!"
