Jaye was supposed to start her shift at Caritas actually a couple weeks ago, but then she'd been three, and it was a whole thing.

Well, Jaye was technically here, though she was a plucky turtle sidekick today, so she wasn't actually at the bar. Instead she was hanging out on a table in the lounge, watching, making observations. The bar was full of burly patrons with steins who would undoubtedly burst into sing if you needed someone to sing your praises!

DO YOU WANT TO SING A SONG?

There's a turtle on that table over there.

"Why is there a turtle in the lounge?" Anakin demanded of no one.

He needed a very large, very strong drink. Little birds had helped his wife get dressed this morning and it had only gotten weirder.

"Hello, friend!" the turtle greeted him. "Might you be in need of some friendly companionship?"

"From a talking turtle," Anakin said. "Sure. Can you pour drinks, too?"

"Not well!"

Because, well, turtle.

"Okay, that's fair," Anakin admitted. "Can I pour the drinks?"

"Have at it! This seems like the kind of place where anything goes."

In a rated G way, of course.

That seriously was mostly sullen guys waiting to back up a song.

They would be very tall glasses of apple juice that looked like beer. Anakin was going to be so, so sad.

"Where'd the zombies go?"

"Where'd the what go?" Jaye the turtle repeated.

"The normal band?" Anakin tried.

The turtle looked from Anakin to the stage, then back again.

"How're you feeling there, friend? You doing okay? Everything good?"

Anakin sighed. "Right. Never mind. Let me get those drinks."

Of apple juice, which he noticed right...now.

"NOoooo!"

"Sounds like life's getting you down," Jaye said, sympathetic, as only a turtle could be.

"More so than usual," Anakin said.

No, Anakin. The surly band was going to sing about their woes, now, and it was all your fault.

That was why the music was swelling in the start of a song, yes! Don't mind Jaye the turtle, over here, tapping her little turtle foot and waiting for Anakin to sing.

...Yes, this was your song, Anakin.

"What."

Oh, Anakin, it's not like you're new here. Sing!

The men in the bar got up from their seats in unison and started in on a spontaneously choreographed dance.

All that was missing was their singer!

"No," he told them. They played the opening bar more emphatically, glaring at Anakin.

Anakin sighed heavily and began singing about his ridiculous day.

The men backed him up enthusiastically!

And maybe tried to heft him up to carry him around like he just won the football game or something. He was a champion here!

"Put me down, put me down!" Anakin yelled as they started doing some kind of choreography and tossing him around.

Nope!

That was just the cue for Jaye to take a comic relief verse, ending with her jumping off the table to slide across the floor perfectly in front of where the men finally would put Anakin down in time to take his next cue.

"I hate everything about this," Anakin announced, doing jazz hands.

Did that matter? No! Because it was time for the big finish!

Which, being the main character, was all about Anakin's high note!

Anakin hit that high note like a guy who can't sing for shit. Sorry, everyone.

Something nefarious probably going down back here.

Idk, I googled "cartoon" and the first animal that came to mind.
